Johnny clearly was ambivalent about doing it from his comment in the monologue and his bailing on the bit, but he's just plain wrong when he said it wasn't on track. It was funny and getting laughs. Maybe walking that tightrope at 66 felt scary.

Johnny's teeth made him sound a bit like Sean Connery.
Now you know why "El Moldo" never caught on as one of Johnny's great recurring characters.
