  • In the small city of Macomb, Illinois, one Lyft driver has become a crucial part of the community’s transportation - and social - infrastructure. She wakes up before sunrise because people depend on her to get to work, or the train, or the doctor, or the grocery store. On the rare occasions she can’t drive, she ensures that another driver can cover for her because people need her. She’s become a local celebrity - and a beloved town booster, encouraging riders to visit local businesses and even giving them gift cards to help them do so.
In this video, we profile how a woman who drives with Lyft gives back to the community she loves - and we highlight the grateful city that would, quite literally, be stuck without her.

It’d be better for everyone involved to open your own taxi business and pay the contractors well instead of letting Lyft take everyone’s money.

I recently helped my nephew see the bigger picture with Lyft.
While the average hourly rate of $18.50 in Los Angeles might seem attractive initially, it doesn't account for the true cost of driving.
Factoring in gas prices currently at $5.30 a gallon, his earnings shrink to $15 an hour - falling short of the current minimum wage of $16.60. This raises a critical point: rideshare driving often overlooks hidden expenses.
On top of lower-than-expected wages, Lyft drivers face significant car depreciation. The constant mileage puts a strain on their vehicles, reducing their resale value in case of an accident. Unfortunately, Lyft won't compensate for this depreciation.
Furthermore, unlike traditional jobs with paid sick leave and worker's compensation, Lyft drivers lack these benefits. If my nephew needed a day off, whether due to illness or personal reasons, he wouldn't get paid.
Looking ahead, Los Angeles' minimum wage is set to increase to $17.50 in July. Additionally, California boasts a $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers. To truly compete with these guaranteed wages, a Lyft driver would consistently need to make an average of $29 per hour after factoring in gas, depreciation, and the lack of benefits.
The takeaway? Don't be misled by the advertised hourly rates. Lyft may not be transparent about the full cost of driving. Consider the hidden expenses - gas, car depreciation, and lack of benefits - before hitting the road. Remember, there are other options, like part-time jobs with guaranteed minimum wage and employee protections.

I was waiting for a passenger, but the police got a ticket. It was Saturday evening, and the place where the passenger had to be picked up was blocked by the police, so the police came up and asked for a license and then cut the ticket. The passenger was already in the car at that time, and he cut me a ticket when he was about to leave. I don't understand how the police get a ticket for me when Lyft drivers are waiting for passengers

It’s ridiculous to act like Lyft drivers are saving lives. Lyft needs to pay us more period. We are doing a job and we aren’t charity workers. All Lyft drivers should be able to clear 30$ an hour cuz you’re driving your own vehicle and need to maintain it , it’s very expensive.

As a Toronto Taxi driver for over a decade, I have countless stories where I saved people while working the night shift. Taking unconscious people to emergency is a norm. That being said, regular taxi is no longer lucrative, so I'm forced to do Ride-sharing. Yesterday, I did 200km of driving and made $87 (7 rides). This is a real world norm for my area, which sucks, since Toronto is one of the most expensive city in North America. What I used to earn in 1 day as a standard Taxi Cab (owner/driver) in Toronto, now takes me 1 week to earn, while working both Lyft and Uber. Granted, I used to get less tired when doing regular Taxi, cause the income was a real motivator.

Yea sure she loves driving random people for 3 dollars when the riders paying 10 dollars a ride. Then lyft tells you theyre paying you 70 percent after they screw you on fees. Not to mention, a rider damages your vehicle and all those "so-called fees" for commercial insurance ain't enough to repair your vehicle because you have to pay them a 2500 deductible. So a rider damages your door or trunk and you have to pay out of pocket.... Don't do lyft. They will entice you with bonuses and then they will progressivly try to take advantage of you and slave drive you by increasing the amount of rides you have to do and decreasing the bonus each week. That's if you're lucky enough for their algorithm to choose you for a bonus. What a joke of a company.

So, Lyft. to thank drivers like this person, you insult our intelligence, by giving drivers 70% of a fare that has already been cut into 24-30%? How insulting to drivers who can do basic math. I cant wait for the lawsuits for you reselling the commercial insurance, at an inflated rate I suspect, to start rolling in.
