I was in my early/mid 20s during Arnie's Political start. I remember explaining my respect for him to my then girlfriend. "He's a prick and a narcissist, but I respect his accomplishments and self-directed goal setting." His low-key Trump feud is appropriate ala spy v. spy. Excellent review! I appreciate the honest, frank take. Well edited and delivered as well sir!

That's the thing. Without that arseholish narcissism and unshakable self-confidence I don't think Arnold would have come anywhere close to the accomplishments he's achieved. If anything, he's a testament that dreaming 'too big' and believing in yourself to the point of naivety will only help you achieve more, not less. Amazing man no two-ways about it.

Being ultra successful isn't for everybody. A person is either driven by nature or not. Reading a book by Arnold ain't gonna make anyone successful. So save your money kids. Success for most people is about patience and long term realistic goals. If you want everything today you're gonna be struggling your whole life and never gave anything

That's the problem I have with books and "success gurus" like Arnold is trying to pivot towards. My grandparents never left their town. Never divorced. Had ten kids. Went to church and lived until almost 100. They were very happy and never wanted for anything. They didn't crave adventures or materialism. Today we would call them losers - but the rest of us are on this hedonic treadmill running so fast just to stay in the same place....it's crazy

Even his latest "philanthropic" ventures aim at propping up a fading legacy to keep him in the spotlight he craves so much. There's just a rancid, visceral disingenuousness that's so fuck'n transparent, it transcends cringe

@@carvedouttastone I Arnold had been my inspiration since a young age and had no problem with him. Until Mike mentzer and Tom platz gained traction in the algorithm and upon my watching of pumping iron I had begin to realize what a bad friend and a bad guy to other people he had been. His statements against Franco, him constantly screwing over someone who idolized him like platz, and the thievery of the 80 Olympia which you had mentioned in a previous video he never brought up in his docuseries. Whether or not people think it was mike mentzers at fault of the derailment of his life or it was the 80 Olympia there is no doubt that it contributed to his downfall. Over the years I have come to recognize Arnold for someone who does whatever he can to remain in the public eye. And his political grift is ever alienating to his original fans.

  • @SkylerKingTW

I don't think it is unusual for any man to change their once judgemental views on their father, as they age. I spoke one way about my father when I was 20. I spoke differently about him when I was 30. I have no doubt that the way I speak about him will change again at 40, 50, 60, etc. My father hasn't changed, but my own knowledge, experiences, understanding, and perspective have and will continue to change.
I agree with just about everything else you stated here, though. Arnold has absolutely accomplished an amazing array of things in his lifetime. It's astonishing, really. However, as I get older and I learn/observe more about him, the more I tend to think that he's full of s*** and, in his older age, is more and more often getting pretty cringey. If I never saw Arnold try to surprise people in public in a hidden camera RUclips video, announcing his presence by shouting "Get to the CHOPPER" - again - it would be too soon.

Another gem I missed upon its release. Brutal indeed.I think Arnold was more honest when he said to a tv host that he was hungry and fearless and that would be a better book
Hungry for attention, relevancy and cash. Fearless in not considering the consequences of fixing contests, being ruthless and screwing the maid. I think the comedian Elon Gold said it best....

I am not american so I don't know that much about Arnold, I started to get suspicious when I got the the 3rd episode of the Netflix documentary. Quick google on how he was actually recieved as politician confirmed it. I am really glad he half-admitted to being a professional bullshiter even in the documentary itself. Everybody was always talking about the line of pump being better than orgasm, and he just outright admitted here that it's a complete bullshit meant as a PR stunt. Kudos for that, shame he didn't go all the way with the honesty though, it would have created lot more positivity around him rather than trying to push his narrative about him being the alpha god of discipline.

Hey Jan thanks for commenting and watching. I'm Australian, but observe America's train-wreck political theatre with detached bemusement. No matter the arena - bodybuilding, movies, "philanthropy", Arnold's always been first and foremost, the most ardent political animal. It sticks in his craw that he can't fulfill his lifelong ambition to become supreme dictator of the United States and now it's his become his cause celebre, polishing the turd of his own revisionist history. Like you said, if he was just honest and owned it, which he COULD easily do, we'd respect him all the more for it. But he lives in the echo chamber of Californian woke-ism and can't seem to pierce the bubble that holds his legacy prisoner
