Arnold. I respect you. An highly intelligent Man. I want a Terminator movie, all have been good. Indiana Jones was not too bad, could you have a movie where the time machine does not work. To all you people mentioning Arnold saying “screw your freedom”, you must realise your point is absurdly silly and shows a real lack of engagement in philosophy (which I assume you want to engage in if you’re interested in Stoicism). To lay things out, what I’ve seen said is that you think “freedom” is this ultimate good, yet providing ultimate freedom necessarily can entail the denial of somebody else’s freedom. If you think laws are a good idea, you necessarily also acknowledge that freedom must be constrained in certain ways to allow for a functional society. What Arnold said was a simple way of making that point - that the people who decry “freedom” as a reason to endanger the lives of others are inherently amoral. They go against what it means to live in a society.
Its not about more woman or more blacks, just pick the most qualified person. You could argue it goes back to who's been given the opportunity to pursue certain paths which goes back to choice. Give choices to all. Whoever comes up top, gets the job.
In the first 10 seconds he talks of Equality, tolerance, understanding each other, not being prejudiced, but being inclusive. Last time i saw Arnold he was calling out people who refused a medical procedure because they questioned its efficacy. Screw your freedom were his exact words. Bearing that in mind, the intro to this video made me not want to watch the rest.
People’s objections to the vaccine were a symptom of serious distrust and feelings of unfairness in society, cracks that consumerism has papered over for a long time. People’s concerns needed to be taken seriously and not ridiculed or dismissed. In a democratic society people should be able to refuse medical procedures/medicines. If you disagree, convince people. Don’t take the easy route and exclude.
You are right, that was an asshole comment. However if we toss out someone’s entire life when they mess up we are going to throw away a lot of worthwhile stuff. As a women I think cheating on Maria shriver was a bigger character flaw than the vaccine comment.
It sucks that a guy who claims to be so “inclusive” is the same guy who said fuck your freedom to people that didn’t want to get vaccinated against their will

Yes, how dare he think laws are a good idea particularly when it comes to a pandemic situation. What an excellent, intelligent, well thought out point you have! You critical thinking individualist!
Fantastic interview. I can’t believe he said manifesting or the secret is bullshit. Then again most stoics aren’t that spiritual or at least aren’t deep in the esoteric disciplines. The proof is in the pudding, there’s tens of thousands and thousands and thousands who have manifested their dreams.

This is such a dumb point I see brought up in anything about Arnold these days. You think “freedom” is this ultimate good, yet providing ultimate freedom necessarily can entail the denial of somebody else’s freedom. What Arnold said was a simple way of making that point - that the people who decry “freedom” as a reason to endanger the lives of others are inherently amoral. They go against what it means to live in a society. You just call it “authoritarian” when it’s laws you don’t like.
Arnold isn’t a Republican, who would favor placing the best person in a role, such as a judgeship, based on merit and not because of race, orientation, etc. He contradicts himself in his own words. He is more likely independent to moderate democrat. Race and division and discussion of it has become a business.

The fact that people are willing to discredit a person for a Covid hot take over a lifetime of positive work and influencing multiple generations that will outlast his lifetime, says a lot about the angry individual. “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone" - Jesus.

Gay marriage is a silly idea. Gays can't reproduce which is kind of the point of marriage. The biological imperative to replace yourself for the next generation. To put down roots for your kids to have a stable home. You have kids to impart your values, train them to be productive parts of society. And they inherit your genetics, your possessions and all that you have worked for. How does gay marriage do that? Who do they impart their values and beliefs on? Who inherits their genetics? Who replaces them when they die? Gay marriage is a fantasy and pretty self centered. Are the gays going to leave their wealth they accumulated and their art collection to who? Their dog? A foundation? What is the point of it? Everything created has multifunctions for the service of others and gay marriage only serves the two people involved in it until they die. Hence the reason they have to target the kids of other people to keep the worldview alive. If you have to steal from another worldview to make yours work, it's not a viable worldview.
