I loved the 1st movie- the feel, creativity and beauty. I really like how Eddie Redmayne created Newt and love the fantastic beasts and, of course, my favourite Kowalsky.
The next 2 movies- not so much. Maybe you are right and they are fillers.
I really wish they still make the next 2 movies and we get to see how the stories continue and get resolved. I hope they return to the feel and flair of the first movie and let the fantastic beasts cast their magic over us.
I give a 4.6 to the first movie and a 3 to the second.

This was the lesser one. I felt the circus investigation scene was just a bit too hand-wavey. Gold dust seeing and hearing past, boom. A feather, boom. The cat creature, boom. Almost like "hey if you've never seen any Potterverse movie at all, here's all the fun setting tones and ideas in one scene." Hamfisted and unnecessary.

    Two quick things
    1. Aurelius isn't who you saw in Deathly Hallows. That was Dumbledore's brother Aberforth. Aurelius will be explained later. Even the fans didn't know about him before this movie.
    2. The snake girl, Nagini, is the Horcrux snake that was Voldemort's pet. The one Neville killed.

A couple of connections between this and harry potter that i didn't see mentioned below:
    1. When Nicholas Flemmel opens the cabinet the sorcerors stone was in it
    2. The mirror that Dumbledore looked in is the same mirror Harry saw his parents in
    3. The snake Nagini is Voldemorts snake
    4. Leta lastrange is an in law to bellatrix, LaStrange is Bellatrix's married name. Bellatrix and narcissa (draco's mom) are sisters and they are Black's cousins to sirius black
    5. You saw grindelwald in the mirror. Grindelwald is the same person that stole the elder wand. Him and Dumbledore had a blood pack in the past.
You learn SO SO much more about Grindelwald and Dumbledores in the Deathly Hollows book.
There is more but these are the big ones.

The Malidictus...woman/snake... Nagini... you already know her. She is the same snake that becomes Voldemort's, but by then, the transformation is permanent.
Also... this series does not end with the next movie, it is supposed to be 5 movies, climaxing with the final duel between Dumbledore and Grindlewald in 1945.
And speaking of them... (you learn this in the books) they meet as young men and become inseparable until the death of Arianna, Dumbledore's little sister.. Not explicitly said in the books, but definitely hinted, is that they were lovers. This was confirmed by J.K.R. later. The scene where Dumbledore is looking in the Mirror of Erised, you are seeing a young Dumbledore and Grindlewald together.

We only know that Dumbledore taught Transfiguration before becoming Headmaster which happens way later. We also know he was Outstanding in all chosen classes and that he doesn't like Divination. Aside from History of Hogwarts (because of Prof. Binns) he could and probably would (if that subject is free) have taught every subject.

Finally the reaction I have been waiting for.
Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwad were lovers. Dumbledore is gay, he was in love with Grindelwald.
That's why the made a bloodpact/oath so that they can't fight each other.
The ones you see on the Mirror of Erised were young Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
The Mirror of Erised is spelled Desire when it reads backward.
That mirror shows you your deepest desire. And Albus' deepest desire was to be one with Grindelwald. That's why they're exchanging blood.
Their photograph was in the book Hermione read in the dean forest during winter when she and Harry camped.
The book called The Life and The Lies of Albus Dumbledore by Rita Skeeter.

A lot of people hated on this movie in particular, but it’s actually my favorite of the FB series so far. I love the tie in of WWII with Grindelwald gaining followers and being the wizarding world’s version of Hitler as the real one rises to infamy. Compelling speeches that ease the listeners into a distaste for muggles, then a disdain, followed by the discrimination of muggles, that could likely lead to a holocaust of muggles. The implications are there in this film without it being over the top obvious.
Fun Fact: Nagini (the maladictus snake girl) will eventually become a snake permanently. That is the nature of what she is. And guess who ends up with a pet snake named Nagini…!!!
Also, to answer the question at the end: I think it’s harder to do a good sequel series than a good prequel. A sequel has to follow something great and keep the audience engaged. A prequel simply has to establish the lore that’s already there and already has the fanbase built in (usually by them having requested it).

Creatures like: vampires, trolls, fairies, goblins, kelpies, grindylow, imps, gnomes, unicorns… etc are from the Celtic-British mythology

I think if you’ve only watched the HP movies you can enjoy these for what they are, and they’re not bad movies at all, the expansion of the magical world is great. But the reason book readers dislike them is because they break a lot of established rules and lore from the original series. The ages of characters don’t match, Dumbledore taught transfiguration not defense against the dark arts, Jacob remembering contradicts what we know about the obliviate spell, etc, etc. If you don’t focus much on that, they’re fun movies to watch! Part of the reason Potterheads dont like these is because of JK retconning for "fan service". She actually removed McGonagall's birthday from Pottermore because in the regular series, she hadn't been BORN yet when Dumbledore was fighting Grindlewald, let alone teaching! A lot of things don't line up, like that (several of the Fantastic beasts we meet in these movies aren't even in the book Newt writes (and Hogwarts has as a text book - which is published for us Muggles, btw)"Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them", even though the point of Newt's journey is to gather info for said book.

I certainly enjoyed the trilogy. it was well done I loved that it led to a tie back to Harry and Ron and Hermione in the library trying to find a book on Nikolas Famel and the very brief mention they made of Grindelwald as being a wizard who went bad.

They stray far from what we know in the books, for example, in Book 5 Umbridge asks Professor McGonagall how long she has been teaching, and she says 39 years. Which means she started teaching in 1956, which is years after the events of these movies.
And Dumbledore is known to have taught Transfiguration, not DADA
A lot of these movies is just fan service

I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t like this movie. Until I watched some reviews that pointed out having a novelist write the screenplay was their biggest mistake. Check out "the theory of everything" if you like Eddie Redmayne. An incredible acting performance as he portraits Stephen Hawking.

This movie pissed me off quite a bit when I first watched it. Over all, I think it's... ehh, alright as entertainment, but I really hope it''ll all eventually come together and get tied into an actual story.
We learn about the Lestrange/Kama family, and Leta's brother. We think it might be Credence. Apparently not. That lead to nowhere.
Queenie goes from slightly quirky to bat shit crazy in no time flat. I honestly don't really understand her actions or behavior in this movie. If anyone is under the effects of a spell or potion, it should be her, not Jacob.
Credence being a Dumbledore... that was the biggest 'sorry, what?' of all. In the HP books we learn a whole lot about the Dumbledore family, and we know Albus only had one brother, and one sister: Aberforth and Arianna. If he'd had another brother, who had been lost to his family for many many years, I'm pretty sure it would've been knowledge to us through Rita Skeeter's book 'The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore'. It explained everything else, and this would've definitely been hot gossip.
I simply couldn't nor wanted to believe even a single word of it. So then... I wondered if Grindelwald was lying, that he said it so that Credence would come to hate Dumbledore, and would go after him to kill him, but he's ultimately not a Dumbledore... Possible, but that would've been horrible from a viewer's standpoint, because the cliffhanger was a falsety.
Then there's the timeline error of Professor McGonagall being a teacher at Hogwarts YEARS before she was even born. How'd she manage that one? Will we ever get an answer to it? I don't know. I want one though, because that's a decent oversight right there. I suppose it shouldn't matter too much, but it does. Not just to me, but quite a few Potterheads out there.
Characters who saved this movie: Jacob, Newt, Tina, Pickett, cute little Nifflers.
And of course, Johnny was quite decent as Grindelwald, pretty sure he can make me sympathize with their cause.
Sadly, he won't be in the third movie, because of a lot of trouble, allegations, lawsuits (which he won yay!), etc. His role will be taken by someone else. He also does a good job, and I'll accept him as Grindelwald as well, but he's no Johnny.
Anyways, looking forward to your reaction to the 3rd movie!

And also, Dumbledore teached Transfiguration, not DADA !!!

Dumbledore actually taught transfiguration, not defence against the dark arts. They changed it for the movie because... no reason actually. I have no idea why they did it.

I think they did it to make his relation with the "dark wizard" more dramatic, as if he was interested in dark things almost like Snape.

Idk. I think I'd take "salamander eyes" as a compliment. If it came from someone like Newt, someone who loves all animals and stranger creatures so much.🤷
