I think over production would have taken away from the music. As it is the music conveys the feeling. I think having scenery from Notre Dame would have been in very poor taste since it actually did burn down and the song does threaten for the city to be burned. Too soon.
@@GamerDadReacts they all put plenty of emotion in that song. Especially Geoff. You can't get any more emotional without overdoing it. It was perfect all around.
I suppose they could have had the Notre Dame Cathedreal on a screen behind them, but since it burned a few years ago, they may have thought it would be in bad taste. Or they could have been inside the cathedral/castle, but then the lighting wouldn't have had the fire feeling to it. I love it just the way they did it.
I wouldn't call what Frollo feels is falling in love. This is about lust, and the self righteousness that makes him blame the girl, or god, or anyone but himself for what he's feeling. I don;'t know how much more emotion you wanted. For me this was very emotional .
I disagree about the acting for the spoken part, for me he does it well. He is a man who sees the women as something to own and is irritated that she has left because he wants control. The whole song is about how it's not his fault if he acts unreasonably, it's hers or gods or indeed anyone else but him. Thinking you can give someone the options of be my property or die by fire is hardly reasonable. I agree he is a awesome villain because he is so real.
Lol, some other reactors have said the set simplicity combined with the emotion expressed by Geoff and the rest of the group actually makes it powerful. Apparently, as the weather goes, to each his own.
can\t you hear Geoff swiching from angel to demon to angy angel and finally to death demon again ?... In the begining , I really can hear love and despair in his voice ... and then , after the theatrical moment , you can hear the vengeance and the bitterness ....That moment actually turns Frollo in a 100% villan.

I honestly forgot about that! Seems so distant than it actually is. Which is an amazing call on their endthry didnt go with the over production

Layne Stein, the beatboxer, said "Burn it!", not Eli.

Exactly. This is another fine example of why they are known as The Theater Kids of Acapella.
His feelings are for the gypsy, Esmeralda. Maria, is Mother Mary, who Frollo is praying to.
Yeah, I caught myself later on when i realized i said Maria, and not esmeralda, haha 😅

You should react to Jonathan Young's version of this song
