Well simply put, there are A Capella groups...all great in their own right and then there is VP...next level without any doubt. Let's just hand them the Grammy please!! Thanks guys.
You both are priceless! and a fellow Disney geek singing along. Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame I think at the time they were trying to get adults back into the theater knowing this song would probably go over kids heads. Frollo is in top 5 Villains, VP did a bit of this in their ACA Top10 Disney Villains and it has been highly requested over the years.
Oooohhh that’s very interesting! Thanks for that bit of information! Is this Top 10 Disney Villains a video we could watch?? Is it like a mesh of songs from them portraying different villains?
@Killermcknight yes the Aca Top ten series is still up. It's medleies. They are sung live in the air and so you can see how amazing they are even without all the production!
@@Killermcknight Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. The black guy is J. None. Geoff took the lead in this one, first time. Please do a reaction video to Geoff's new solo cover of Jacks Lament. He is amazing.
As 'not safe for children' this movie might have been, believe it or not in many ways the book was even darker (if I recall it correctly). Esmeralda was tortured into confessing to murder and was hung. And IF I recall correctly, Frollo was the one who had the guy killed in the first place because of his connection to her. And she was not saved from her death. And of course Frollo was clergy, so Disney had to change that. I remember reading the book in either high school or junior high when I was just a bit younger than Esmeralda (back in the 1970s). She was 16 in the book. And I was so yucked out by it that when the movie came out, I had no interest in seeing it. And I LOVED animations! VoicePlay managed to give Frollo some humanity (at the beginning of the song) which I'm surprised I could feel for him after being so disgusted by him. And then comes "Burn It"! and all 'hell' breaks loose. Like almost literally. Eli & Cesar really had me feeling that Frollo didn't understand how this could happen to him (Not My Fault!) and then blaming it on the Devil? That just made it possible for Frollo to blame her as an agent of the Devil and she was okay to punish. Geoff's "God Have Mercy"s become almost emotionless and liturgical sounding. They all hit the acting & emotions just right in this!
You’re remembering pretty correctly. I think Esmeralda was burned in the book. She was in live action movies produced years before the Disney animation. Disney left Frollo as clergy even though he was referred to as Judge Claude Frollo. He still operated out of the Notre Dame cathedral. Tony Jay voiced him and sang this song in the movie.
Jay None is the dark skin with the short hair if you watch Valhalla Calling he does something cool in that. He also was a member for a while but he is in the Navy at the moment his still gotta a couple years still waiting for some the ones I mention to you last time.
Ohh okay, he is the one in the navy! We will get their names down eventually. It usually takes a bit and since we haven’t covered too much from them yet, and they’ve been gaps between, it’s taking a bit longer. Oh don’t worry, we will definitely be covering them!
It's a Disney movie based on the even a lot darker novel "Notre-Dame de Paris. 1482" from the French author Victor Hugo, published in 1832. Disney changed the story to be more family-friendly. E.g. Phoebus became a kind of hero instead of a selfish womanizer. Esmeralda was not executed as in the novel but saved. And Quasimodo survived and was accepted.
I always love A Cappella 😍😍😍 Another one from Voiceplay I like is "Hide and Seek (Ding Dong)" the Halloween song or another Disney's by A Cappella group is "Arabian Nights - Aladdin" by The Bass Gang Love these two as well 🤗
J. None used to be a full time member of VoicePlay before he left to sing with the Navy. J. is the guy standing second from the left, next to Layne, the beat boxer. I'm kind of hoping that the reason they haven't filled that 5th spot is so that J. will have a spot to slide back into when his tour in the Navy is done. Layne, Geoff, Eli, Cesar and J. None are my favorite VP line up so far. :)
Whatever you react to by Voice Play or Geoff Castellucci, you will not be disappointed. Watch list: In The Air Tonight, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Moana Medley, Grimm Grinning Ghosts, Sound of Silence...and the rest. I want to see more from you two!
THOND is disneys darkest movie(im not counting cauldron in this). its one of the greatest movies made by them because of how unique it is. it walks on a VEEEEEEERY thin line of being kid friendly and not kid friendly. it gets so dark that it at times almost tips over the edge and goes strait into not kid friendly. its easily my top 5 disney movies.
From the left of the picture - Layne the beatboxer, J None between Layne and Geoff, Geoff in the center, Eli is the bald tenor next to Geoff and Cesar is all the way to the right of the picture - did the air guitar. I think it is stunning. Geoff also dropped a new solo video on Saturday Jack's Lament from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Another great one. At this point I don't think they will be doing more videos until they get back from the Chicago tour where they will be doing 3 songs on stage on Nov 17. When the get back they will do the Christmas songs. I found Geoff 2 yrs ago when he did the solo Monster Mash, then I found he was part of a group and watched Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean. Found that Geoff has started his solos when covid came on the scene and they stopped touring. He was bored and started with The Bare Necessities. I think at the time I found him he only had 30 something. He's added maybe another 20-25. VoicePlay has been doing this for 25 yrs or so (started off as 4:2:Five) and has well over 800 videos. A lot of Disneys, some film and Broadway, gaming like Halo and Skyrim. Some rock (did the impossible in January and did Nothing Else Matters (Metallica) and the world said it couldn't be done, a bit of country, amazing work. If you will react to them, all of us fans of VoicePlay will be there for you.
Disney and Dreamworks are two different studios. Pixar was sort of separate from Disney; Disney owned Pixar but the first several movies were released as Pixar. Now they’re marked Disney-Pixar. Hunchback was a Disney film.
Never heard this song before, but for a long time I was obsessed with the french musical, Notre Dame de Paris, and Daniel Lavoie (Frollo) singing Tu vas me détruire. (You will destroy me)
Geoff released his new Halloween video Saturday..... Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas. It is absolutely beautiful. A rollercoaster ride of ups and downs in his range.
90s Disney's was top tier. ALL the songs of that decade and the late 80s were amazing , current Disney would NEVER dare to compose a song like this, even if the person singing it was a villain.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame was originally an 1831 classic novel. Yes, even then, a religious hypocrite/abuser blame-turning was a thing, so condemning the "witch" to burn at the stake because she rejected him is sadly a familiar theme. NSFKids.
I don't know if you noticed, I didn't until I watched another reactor I like who is really knowledgeable about music and breaking things down and she pointed out that when the guy comes in to tell Frolo that the gypsy had escaped, the other three of them for the first two chants are saying 'Gyp-sy, Es-cape' during it and I thought that was soo cool. Recommend their 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' cover!
If you've never checked him out, Tomi P (a member of another acapella group called the Bass Gang who are AWESOME!) Did a cover of Hellfire a long time ago. Even if not reacted to on video, highly recommend.
We actually recorded that one before this one. It will be posted soon as well 🙂 I will say though our reaction is far less exciting in that one, it was more “taking it all in” where this one was more booping and singing lol
Great reaction. This is such a good cover of the song that is beautiful but oh how I hate Frollo! Don’t worry about not knowing who is who, it can be a little confusing especially since they usually have at least one collaborator with them and sometimes dress up! You will always see Geoff, Layne and Eli (bald tenor) in the videos. Geoff and Layne founded the group back when they were in high school (1997) along with Earl Elkins Jr (incredible high tenor !!) who left in 2020. Other than Earl, all the changes have been the baritones. Layne originally was the baritone for the group until their beat boxer Scott Porter left around 2009. Layne switched to beatboxing, and Tony Wakim, his current business partner in PattyCake Productions, joined until 2017 and left after they finished the Sing Off tours. That’s when J, who was on Geoff’s left in this, came on board until 2021. The Navy recruited him to sing for them but he comes back as often as he can. He came back on his very first leave from the Navy to do I’ve got Friends on the Other Side from Princess and the Frog. When he came back for Valhalla Calling, also came home for his wedding! When J left, they chose Cesar de la Rosa, who was all the way on the right in this. He’s pretty scary in this one, but he’s Mr. Sweet and Sassy to the rest of us. Usually they will place their featured artist in the middle, to make it a little easier to find them and also because they usually get the lead lines. However J is like an extended member of the group so they’ve been mixing it up a bit. I noticed you singing along so I’m going to guess that you’re a pretty big Disney fan. You might want to check out PattyCake Productions. Among other things they have created an original series called Villains Lair, based on the villains in the animated Disney films. They are banished to a rickety old castle and plotting to be restored to power. The episodes are usually around 10 minutes long and feature original scripts and music mostly written by Layne and Tony. They also have a number of videos on Hocus-Pocus, their Unexpected musicals, which are snippets of Disney storylines set to music of a specific musician. My favorite is Michaeleficent which is a synopsis of Mistress of Evil set to Michael Jackson songs. Halloween favorite is their Bump in the Night which was released the year that Covid prevented Halloween trick-or-treaters. It features cameos from about 20 to 30 horror film icons. They are always expanding their repertoire and recently have released a couple of Evolution pieces that trace the evolution of characters such as Cinderella and Ariel.
They slayed this! This is one of Disney's darkest animated villains and they really brought it to life for me. Now I'm gonna go watch your reaction to Geoffs Halloween piece. It's amazing! ❤
"dum, dum, dum..." - No 'Hunchback' without 'bell tones'. 🤪(Sorry, but...)🤣 - Great video, I really like you both and how you are presenting the reactions. 👍
Well simply put, there are A Capella groups...all great in their own right and then there is VP...next level without any doubt. Let's just hand them the Grammy please!! Thanks guys.
They’re just soooo good!!

"This is a villanous song?"
Dude, it's called Hellfire XD

Always coming in with great recommendations! 😊 We will add these ones to the list as well! ♥️
From left to right (looking at the screen) is Layne (the beat boxer), J. None, Geoff, Eli (rhymes with "jelly") and Cesar.
And previous Voice Play baritone, Tony, is the walk on guard. 😊
When you listen to their Viking songs, start with My Mother Told Me and Valhalla Calling. Their piratey songs are on point as well. It's ALL good!
J. None used to be a full time member of VoicePlay before he left to sing with the Navy. J. is the guy standing second from the left, next to Layne, the beat boxer. Since it's October, you should check out VoicePlay's In the Hall of the Mountain King. It is amazing... they go all out!
"No-treh Dahm" is the Paris cathedral. "No-ter Dame" is the U.S. university and football team. 'Cause we Americans talk doofus.
Watch Jonathan Young sing his cover of Hellfire.
