You're absolutely not. And judging by the reactions of everyone in the commentary, they went along with it too. Heck, by the time we get to post-show content (Journal 3, Lost Legends etc.) the ship is teased very heavily - all but confirmed at this point.
Pacifica is gonna need YEARS of therapy to get over and process being conditioned like a literal dog. When she pulls the switch to the gates she’s wincing to break her conditioning; it seems like it’s pretty ingrained into her mind. Not to mention her mom putting self loathing into her head. Side note: I just realized a few days ago that Pacifica’s name is a pun on PNW (yes, I’m that dumb.)
*sweats nervously* Ha ha, yes, let's all laugh at jackotherstar. I DEFINITELY knew Pacifica's name was a pun BEFORE reading this comment. Anyways I must go due to a completely unrelated reason. For context, this is my 7th rewatch of the series. Man I feel stupid.
i love how they talk about kids liking episodes that scared them because this and sock opera are the two episodes that genuinely frightened me as a kid and now they’re two of my all time favorites
Exactly :] The convenience store episode and the giant deformed flying head in Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained scared tf out of me when I was younger lol. The head getting so close you couldn't see him on camera anymore haunted me. The jokes made it bearable tho and it was definitely fun to kinda " beat the monsters" like they say in the commentary. It's really fun to rewatch the series as an adult :] also the bleeding taxidermied animals was something else lol. It didn't freak me out that bad as a kid but I was shocked they got it past Disney haha
alex saying that the bell is not supposed to be interpreted as abuse is absolutely baffling. i don’t think you have to read into it, the very act of conditioning your daughter with a bell is abuse.
I think Hirsh just didn't see it that way when planning it out because it was supposed to be an purposeful hyperbole to show her parents as strict. Regardless of that in practice it is very much abuse. Big thing to remember is that artist often do not fully understand the implications of their own work. Reason death of the author is a must.
the entire start of the video (like the first two minutes) is just the point that kids can watch and understand slightly offensive, somewhat scary and fun episodes with the undertone of maturity. like idk about you, but every show i ever watched had a Zombie apocalypses episode and it was some of the more memorable for me because they are usually scarier. this episode also was one of those memorable episodes from the fear.
Still don't understand how the bell and pacificas parents can be interpreted as anything but abusive, but the point of the episode comes across either way.
I think I'm more annoyed by the fact that Pacifica lost her manor in the last episode than Dipcifica didn't happen, though they're both very obnoxious.
Remember that at the beginning of the episode they both had really bad opinions about each other, so I think them becoming friends is a more natural progression. Also do you know any relationships that started when both members where 12, that actually lasted? I think any Dipcifica stuff makes more sense if it's set a few years later. @@frankficcle7081 What about Gumball from "The Amazing World Of Gumball"? He got the girl and seeing as how Dipper celebrated his 13th birthday in the last episode, he's even YOUNGER than Dipper. Now, you could argue that Gumball is smarter and nicer than Dipper, except...he definitely isn't.

I love that they didn't plan this one out, and then it turns out to be one of the best episodes in the series.
And with one fell swoop of an episode, the show crew unleashed a monstrous ship onto the seven seas under the name 'DIPCIFICA'.

The fact that Pacifica’s official va actually ships dipper and Pacifica makes me happy

The creators involved ship it,
Several canon continuations ship it,
VAs ship it,
it's confirmed lol.
“Pacifica Sees a side of dipper other people don’t get to see”
They also mentioned directly that Dipper is confident around Pacifica specifically.
I totally shipped Dipper and Pacifica in this episode! There's no way I'm alone here!
Dipcifica 4 life!!
*TRUST ME* you are *definitely* not alone
Agreed!

It very well seemed as if Pacifica’s VA shipped them too

@@duckling3615 even with the cartoon-y exaggeration, i would consider the strictness he’s hyperbolizing abuse, too.
There's no way that's what he meant, he was talking about the idea that when he created it he didn't create it with abuse in mind.
