Species in this video:
1. Quercus alba (White oak)
2. Quercus macrocarpa (Bur oak)
3. Quercus bicolor (Swamp white oak)
4. Quercus muehlenbergii (Chinkapin oak)
5. Quercus rubra (Northern red oak)
6. Quercus imbricaria (Shingle oak)
7. Quercus palustris (Pin oak)
Which of these acorns have you seen?
I’m in NE Ohio and we have mostly red oaks around us. I did find a bur oak earlier this fall and collected a bunch of acorns that are currently over wintering in my shed. Fingers crossed I have a bunch of baby bur oaks in the spring!
@@kimr2581 Aww I hope you get all of those bur oaks this spring! Then you can eventually have all of those gigantic acorns haha
At the grocery store I saw some acorns on the ground, but none of them had on the crown. It could be a Northern Red or Shingle. Could you show what they look like without the crown? And will they grow without it? I picked up a dozen or so to try and grow.
Thanks!
The fact that they sync up on acorn production is super fascinating! ❤
Awesome video!!! I really like your delivery, you provide a ton of great info in a non-intimidating way.
Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear you like the presentation style, I will keep it up :)
@@moplantdaddy I agree, great presentation. Simple and sweet.
This video kicks ass!!!!!!
I love hearing how much you enjoy your subject in your videos :)

Thank you so much for sharing, very interesting and entertaining :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for doing this. I love this kind of stuff!!!
Thank you!
Great video!
nice presentation
A very informative video with some excellent images.
Thank you, I appreciate you stopping by, love your videos! :)
Great, thanks! Explain the holes, maybe talk about ants that live in them. Maybe why you are excited about oaks? I like them because they are a "keystone species" of tree, supporting many kinds of insects. This makes them centers for biodiversity and very attractive to birds.
Hi! I think that is a great idea for another video :) I thought going into that much detail may take away from the actual acorn identification. I'll definitely keep it in mind though!
@@moplantdaddy I'd also like to know more about them too, in another or many other videos. Like, what kind of root system each one has, how tall each grows; are they better to grow in direct sun or is shade OK. Things like that. Are they evergreens or do they lose their leaves.
HEY, PLEEASE TELL ME FROM WHER I GET THESE OAK SEEDS , ARE THEY AVAILABLE ABUNDANTLY, OR FROM WHERE I CAN GET THESE SEEDS
I had over 200 acorns to feed the squirrels. I tried planting, but the squirrels stole them. So I decided to plant inside. It got VERY cold outside, so I have over 5 white oak trees growing inside! I'm afraid the root will die since the planting pot is small.
Your name is sus🤨
Great video!
Thank you! :)
