This has definitely been on my to do list for quite a period of time and I've finally managed to get around to a 'proof of concept', prototype, first draught of a Sofa C Table. Lots of new techniques tried out to achieve that rounded over mitre look which has a Scandinavian kind of influence to it, plenty mistakes made along the way but overall happy with how it turned out and a possibility of a future sales product if I can figure out a suitable flatpack method of construction👍.
As ever, thank you so much for your continued support in my disability woodworking adventures. Best Wishes, Leo Winstanley

That is a cracking project. Simple and elegant.
Cheers Paul, really appreciate that pal as that’s exactly what I was going for design wise 👍👍
That sander card looks handy.
I’ve got an Amazon link to it in the description Russell if you fancy ordering one and want to help support the channel👍. Does come in really handy for getting into inside corners 😀👍
Well done Leo.... you put us all to shame for perseverance and skills
Appreciate it Paul, thank you and definitely happy with this as a prototype concept. Hoping to make a flatpack variant to sell on the website 🤞😀👍
Great idea that Leo! Would be a good seller!! Can’t be any worse than my school boy error cutting the old doms goal up! If you can remember!! I was always reminded daily!!
Ah the Dom’s goalposts, it was like that chandelier scene in Only Fools And Horses😂😂😂😂. Whenever I remember that it still makes me laugh out loud😂. Good times pal
@@Hand-i-Craft I was banded from cutting any wood!!
Nice job, looks great
Cheers Vern 😀😀👍👍
Nice work Leo I love the round over and that wax finish really made it pop. Can’t wait to buy some off you when we see you in may.
Nice one Dave, looking forward to meeting you in person pal 😀😀👍👍
Top man Leo. I am renovating my new home in Spain, lots of rubbing down and painting. I was outside in 25 degree heat in the shade (I was in the sun, hotter) and rubbing down 100s of metres of metal railings for 10 hours, switching hands as one got tired. You immediately sprung to mind. You make fun of your glue ups in this video, but as well as the admiration I (and I guess many others) have for your clever improvisations in delivering your superb projects, you must get really tired taking double the weight all the time on one arm. Absolutely inspiring stuff. 👍👏👌
Thanks Kev and sounds like the ‘big job broke out’ gets bigger by the day for you! Yes it does take its toll on my good arm so the art of pacing is very important. Easier said than done though pal 👍
Hi Leo, I think that the clamex connectors need to be used in conjunction with the Lamello jointer. This cuts a slightly different slot to the standard biscuit jointer and it anchors the clamex into the workpiece, which then allows the two halves to lock together with a rotating cam. I'm fairly sure that a standard biscuit jointer will not work with them.
Hello Jon, cheers for the message pal. To my knowledge these clamex 2 connectors are a recent product specifically designed to work with biscuit jointers that are fixed in place with some small screws. I’ve seen Matt Estlea and Peter Millard test them. Looking forward to trying them out to see if it’ll work with these mitre joints 👍👍
Nice
Thanks David 😀👍
Looks great in situ. Without trying to put you out of business I might try one for myself!!
If we join forces pal we’d have IKEA worried 💥😳💪😂😀👍
@@Hand-i-Craft you take the West Coast, I'll take the east!
The Domino is definitely a check thrice tool. I can _assure_ you that you are not the first, nor will you be the last. Good effort Dude. It looks great.
I have no idea how commercial that item might be. I wouldn’t use it for the purpose that you designed it for. I _would_ be much more interested in a version of it that held an iPad / tablet in a similarly convenient location.
Interesting thoughts here pal and cheers for the feedback. It’s got me thinking of maybe making it in two sizes width wise, one like mine and one more suited to a tablet 🤔🤔👍👍
Seeing you use that domino; The PVC pipe was good but can’t help think a 3D printed adaptor would work so much better. If it’s not an issue, don’t worry. But if you’d like to make it easier and/or more comfortable, am sure I could help. Am UK based.
Two designs and prints, twice the choice 😎
Just found you, as I was looking at who's going to Makers Central. Really interesting channel.
Thanks Mark, very kind of you 😀👍
Ooh, that Birch really comes up beautifully. Lovely piece Leo. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks Rob 😀👍
Since you already have a domino, they also have some flat-pack-compatible connectors that work quit ewell in my experience
I’ve seen those connectors but never tried them. I don’t think I they’d work with a mitre joint as they’d be too deep but could work well if I changed it to a butt joint?
@@Hand-i-Craft ah yes that's right!
Top job Leo I’ve just purchased four of those 90 degree clamps the 5inch ones I’ve also got the 2inch as well very useful just as a suggestion to hold them in place temporarily why not try the pocket hole type clamp or the flat welding clamp it might help out.
As always a very informative vid I like the idea of total round over very effective
Thanks Phil, those corner clamps really do come in handy, especially with jobs like this👍👍
Really nice table Leo and great video. I’m still making mistakes with the domino too
Cheers Steve. The main issue I have with the domino, even now after having it a few years, is when you change bit and domino sizes. If it’s set up mainly for one size then great no mistakes. When I change inevitably there is some setting I forget to alter 🤷♂️😂
I know exactly what you mean I’ve done the self sane thing 😂
Great project and loved the honest approach to the little bloopers - we all make mistakes! 👍🏻👌🏻
Cheers Kevin and yes as much as I really like the design concept, plenty of mistakes made with this prototype, bur plenty lessons learned 😀👍
Leo there's one vey serious flaw with that table and I'm sorry to say mate the flaw is.......... that it's not sat in my lounge with my cuppa on it 🤩- Love this build mate 👍🤟
Thanks Andy, much appreciated pal. Something you might try yourself? 😀
@@Hand-i-Craft it's deffinatly gave me some ideas to add to my list of things to do
Nice one Leo! I’ve been thinking about making something like this for a while but the strength at the mitre joints has always been my concern.
If you sell them make sure you include something to tell people not to sit on them, you know how litigious people are these days - and dumb in some cases!!
Nice one Dean and cheers for the message before 👍👍
Another excellent project Leo, although a plank and some six inch nails into the couch would've been quicker 🤣
Hint'n'tip, you've probably seen it done, but tape along the edges before gluing up saves a lot of clean up and sanding ... did it for the first time making my friends bamboo speaker cabinets (video up later today) 👍
And mistakes, you're a beginner at that, the above mentioned speakers seemed to be a mistake from beginning to end ☹
Thanks Barry, yes I’ve seen the tape trick quite a few times on RUclips recently. Can I ask do you remove the tape before the glue dries?
@@Hand-i-Craft Yes, do the glue up, wipe off excess and then remove the tape ... well that's the way I did it with my speakers and it worked perfectly, none of that having to sand later to get rid of glue 👍
@@Hand-i-Craft BTW my video of speaker cabinets now live if you get bored 😁
Hi Leo, Nice cup stand for the sofa, that is a nice piece of Canadian Birch. So you slipped up I call it character and to me that is a honest and great build. Be proud of what you have built there this would look good in any house to put your coffee or tea on. I have seen those biscuits on Peter's you tube channel. As always a great video, take care Mate👍
Cheers Shaun and I’m interested to see if these clamex 2 connectors can work in this type of situation 😀😀👍👍
Leo that looks a fantastic piece of furniture. Im even tempted to have a go myself, either with dowels or the clips (I’d finally have a use for that biscuit jointer that’s been sat on the shelf.
I’m interested to know where you acquired that lovely birch. I’m in Southport and I haven’t found a decent wood supplier around here yet.
Your wax looks just the job. I might pop by and pick up a couple of tins.
Keep up the good work.
Ken Myerscough, Southport UK 👍
Cheers for the message Ken. Yes if you’re ever after some wax I’ll sort it sometime if you want to call by. The birch was lucky as I got it from a clearance from a yard I deal with occasionally. If you’re after some different hardwoods I’d definitely recommend getting in touch with PB Hardwoods up in Kirkby. Not too far for you and they have an incredible selection. Lancashire Timber behind the Booths Supermarket in Burscough also do live edge stuff which is worth a look👍
Turned out great !👍👍
Cheers Harly 👍😀
Great build Leo. It turned out really well. 👍
Nice one pal, much appreciated. I’m a bit behind on my RUclips watching atm and haven’t had time to catch your latest video. It’s on my watched later list 😀👍
👍👍👍.Thank you Leo
Cheers Pete 👍👍😀😀
How long is your Domino pipe? Thinking of knocking up something I can 3D print with a wider base if you fancy giving it a try?
Off the top of my head I can’t remember pal but will get back to you if that’s ok?
Sorry, didn’t see your comment before making the same offer. Hope you can help!
Awesome job as always Leo
Thanks Lewis, I really like the design and the Canadian birch is lovely. Bit of refinement and if those clamex connections work on the mitres I could well look to be selling these 😀👍
@@Hand-i-Craft I would deffo say you have a product there mate, these things are really in at the minute !
As for the clamex I would be interested to see how you get on with them as I have never used them
@@LTWCarpentry I’m really interested to try them out pal and see if I can make them work in this kind of situation 👍👍
They aren't mistakes there learning curves , only mistake is leaving the teabag in the cup 😂
Looks great Leo and that birch 👌. The oracle that is Peter Millard may be onto the right solution there I think. Good luck with it bud 👍
Cheers Gordon, I’m on a bit of a health kick so it’s green tea, not quite proper tea but willing to give it a try 🤷♂️😂
@@grantwhite Cheers Grant, the overall style and design I’m really happy with. If those clamex fittings work could be venturing into the world of flat pack, look out ikea 😂😂😂
@@Hand-i-Craft😂😂
Worked out great and I’m glad you left the mistake in. I’m doing some 45° biscuit joints this wknd and I’d have made the same mistake for sure! 😅
You mentioned your table saw. I’m considering an evolution rav4 (think that’s what you have?). Would you recommend it? I’ve a tiny parkside one and it’s really limiting in cutting capacity etc.
Thanks
Cheers Mark and best of luck with the biscuit cutting! In regards to the table saw I used to have the Evolution Rage 5-S but sold it in favour of a tracksaw and bandsaw set up instead. For the price it was a good machine, plenty power and the fence was great. Downsides were it was extremely noisy and the dust collection was shocking. Reality of it though is it’s designed as a site saw so fair dos on the downsides 👍👍
@@Hand-i-Craft brilliant. I’m debating whether or not to spend the extra few hundred € on getting a dewalt but I don’t think I can justify it! Appreciate the feedback.
@@TheWardagh Have a look at the new Rutlands site saw. Looks very similar to the Dewalt design but much cheaper
@@Hand-i-Craft I will do. Thank you. Looking at a Bosch site saw too and it looks decent. Much appreciated
@@Hand-i-Craft just ordered the Rutlands. It looks like a great piece of kit. Thanks for the tip.
