  • Our experience hiking in the Albanian Alps for five days across several passes included in the Peaks of the Balkans trek.
    Mostly guesthouse trekking with one night of wild camping. Very steep uphill ascents and a lot of snow in this beautiful and untouched landscape.
    We hope you enjoy our trekking experience.

    Wow... Courageous/brave to do the trail in early June with still so much snow! 👌😳 especially in the passes ! Is it possible to contact you to ask a few questions about the trail... We are a groupe of 6 people going there next month, mid August

      We finished the whole POTB trail a week ago. Can confirm the high route from Valbone to Cerem were quite snowy still, all other days are fine. I think with the crazy hot weather eveerything should be fine right now. We did the hike with full packs (tent + 10 day of food), it was very very challenging! So be wise, go light and stay in guesthouses :-)

    Thanks for the awesome video about your hike! I loved watching it and it's very informative too. I am planning to do this hike in june this year with a friend. When exactly in june did you do this hike? I did not expect to see that much snow. I think last year the Alps had more snow than in general. Was this amount of snow you had on your trip normal or was it more than usual?

      Thanks for watching! We are very glad you enjoyed it!
      So, from what we understand there was a lot more snow than normal due to a big dump over the winter! We totally expected it to be fine since the season is supposed to start in May.
      The tricky part was finding information while we were there, as it was all word of mouth and not much information online. I would say you could contact the tour agency’s or the wanderers hostel in advance to try and find out what the conditions are like!
      Hope you get to do it 🤞🤞🤞

    Nice video! Do you have to book the accomodations in advance or is it possible spontaneously ? Is it possible without any travel organisation at all? I would love to get an answer

      Hi there, I did the trail like 3 weeks ago and I can tell you, that you neither need a travel organisation nor to book in advance. Just plan your route in advance and start hiking! Everything is marked with signs so it's really intuitive to get around. For accommodations it's almost as easy just speak with the locals they usually have free rooms or you are allowed to put up your tent in their garden. They will ask for money tho, but food is included. I hope you are still considering the trail, it's really beautiful. And if so, I wish you best of luck and a lot of fun. Greetz.

    Hi, A truely amazing video! I am planning to walk the trail next year, thanks for the inspiration. I did some research about wild camping in the country's, but i could not find one straight answer. Do you maybe have some information about this? and if not, is it possible to do the trail without a guide/ organisation?

      Hi, glad you enjoyed the video!!
      So definitely possible to do without a guide and there are guest houses to stay in every village. We didn’t wild camp, but I believe you can. There is a great book we bought by Rudolf Abraham called the peaks of the balkans trail I would highly recommend!

    Never do such things. These youngsters have taken unnecessary risks (some basic spikes could have been much much better) in a country without an alpine SAR. This is an example how NOT to go the mountains.

    • @enea_7280
      @enea_7280 Год назад

      What do you mean without an SAR? Albania has dedicated and experienced rescue teams to deal with the millions that visit the country every year. Completed with helicopters.
