My mother has dementia and she's slowly fading away. Whenever she gets nervous or anxious, we play one of your videos and watch it together. Thank you.
Criticism? Brother, I can't even imagine the effort that must go into making this. Those winter/summer transitions made without special effects? Unbelievable. My favorite part was the drone video of you swimming in that beautiful blue lake. I really like seeing the mountain people too. I hope you know how much we appreciate you taking us to places most of us will never see.
Work of art!! Transitions are amazing. Speaks volumes w/out saying a word. Which did you film first? Winter or Summer? How did you get the wound on your leg?
Out of all the hiking/trekking videos that document long trails, this is the kind that really reaches/touches you. Silence, no annoying music, no constant talking about the route, no trying to make it into a drama/telenovela by showing difficulties, no self-centered "me, me me! look at me! Ooooh look how cool it is here, woooohooooo", no "oh, this is so dangerous and hard! Look how tough we are! Look how much we are suffering!!" But instead... a peaceful video documentation of splendid landscapes. One almost feels like he's there. No words can make it justice. We really need more of this. Peace, silence, connection with nature. And less show-offs and attention seekers. From all the hiking channels, yours is by far the best I've seen so far. I just subscribed and hope you keep making videos in the future.
Hope you liked this one as much as I did! Editing-wise this was the toughest project so far, also trying to tell a secondary story of winter. But a great learning process. Love to hear what you thought about it. Criticism is more than welcome, I want to keep improving! All the summer-winter transitions: 0:08, 1:07, 9:00, 10:16, 19:20, 21:15, 28:23, 31:28, 43:58, 44:46 Some random facts you might like: 6:36 I never fall on trail, but when it did happen it was kinda bad. I cut myself (probably on the rock I sled on) on my shin so deep I could see the muscle inside (hope I am not making anyone nauseous). I cleaned the wound with water al alcohol and glued it together. I always bring superglue for this multipurpose use. What I didn't show is that at guesthouse I stayed at that night there were some people with medical background that helped me disinfect the wound once more. All the days after I kept cleaned the wound with boiled water daily, kept it free of any dirt and used to antibiotic cream to prevent it from disinfecting, and all went well. Special thanks to Mirthe, Charlotte, Hester and the others from the guesthouse for helping me out there! 16:32 I don't think I've ever been this lucky with the weather. All nights outside dry, inside rain and thunder. What are the odds? (3/5 nights outdoors, 2/5 nights rain. (3/5)*(2/5) = 24% chance.) 27:43 This descent was steep! Average slope of 53%, with a 300m section of 72%. I probably should have checked the slope before I headed down that way. But a fun adventure. 31:42 The valley from winter camping last winter. Although I knew the route, I still had to convince myself I'd been there before. It was so different! Which season I liked most? Winter. With the snow it was so much more peaceful, everything was untouched and perfectly smooth, plus there were no mosquitos or ants crawling over you. In winter I could easily maneuver through the same forest that was now full of branches, loose rocks and blackberry bushes. Plus, the slopes were so steep that by no means I could pitch my tent here now. 35:46 This was my favorite camp spot of this trip. The remoteness, those tall peaks all around and the alpine lake of course. Loved it. 39:25 The highlight of this trip. That lighting in the morning, the beautiful and technical ascent and the 360 degree views up there. From there I could basically see the whole loop. And it was so windy up here! I took some effort to get the drone in the air and get these shots. My hands started getting cold and I if I lost that drone there, I would have lost all the drone footage of this trip.
A true masterpiece once again. I can't believe all the troubles you went to just to get those perfect shots of, for example, you brewing and drinking coffee filmed from four angles. This level of dedication is insane. I cannot comprehend how you find the time to hike 21km and 1500m of elevation inbetween filming all of this. Maybe you're just screwing with us and in reality you've got two hired cameramen, one in front of you and one behind :D However, the endresult is nothing short of cinematic. I have just returned from hiking two weeks on the HRP and am actually very content to be back home again. Yet, after watching your film, I'm itching again to get back on the trail again. Watching your work really feels like being out there. EDIT: Oh, and the summer/winter transitions were just amazing. I had to look two or three times to convince myself that this was not CGI. They look so smooth and the angle of each corresponding shot is so similiar that at first I thought "this looks way too smooth to not be rendered/not real". Stunning, really.
@@anatexis_the_first Thanks a lot! Comments like these are a true reward for the hard work. I wish I had two cameramen with me all day, that would have been so relaxed. (; Truth is I've been a athlete for some time, used to running up to 12 times a week, that really helps a lot with these hikes. And I don't get near enough sleep during these hikes. (; The HRP is still on my list! How was it?
As a solo traveller myself, your videos make me emotional. You are the only person who's videos I can show to someone else and say "see, thats why I travel solo, period". Thank you.
@@HarmenHoek You're not a solo traveller, are you? Sometimes you do something and the drone films you and flies curves. There's another drone pilot, isn't there? Besides, it would be pretty dangerous in remote places if no one could call for help in the event of an accident - and the cell phone has no connection.
I live in the Accursed Mountains, and you have recorded the beauty of our mountains masterfully; I haven't seen any other footage which can compare. When I am out there in the mountains, I am often overwhelmed by how stunning the scenery around me is, and I kind of feel overwhelmed by the fact that I do not have the technology to do it justice. I feel sad that I cannot accurately capture and share with others the scale of the rocks, the quality of the light, the clarity of the water, and the variation in the flora and fauna. But I feel truly relieved and excited to see that you have put in so much effort and have thoroughly managed to do so. For all of us; both those of us who know this landscape intimately, and who wish that others did so too, and those who have not been lucky enough to be immersed in such a wild and wonderful landscape. The mere thought of the amount of behind the camera work to produce this excellent film makes me shudder. You are very brave, not only for walking alone in the wilderness, but even more for all the trips between the camera and the scene of action. It takes true dedication and a ton of patience to do that hundreds of times. The result, however, is worth the effort. Well done!
Mate this was unreal. I can’t get over how stunning that scenery was and how relaxing this was to watch. The shots, editing and music are superb, keep up the great work!
Harmen- I loved the beautiful film you made here! It’s so much appreciated and loved, please keep these films coming. Your work is very enjoyed as I may never get to these mountains you hike. Do you stay at hostels along the way- how do you pay for an overnite stay?!
I watched every summer/winter transition twice (at least)!!!! That must have taken some planning in advance to achieve that smooth effect. Amazing editing and poster-level photography as always. Random facts in the comments section is still my favourite!!! When I see this great work on the big screen of my TV, i could almost feel every moment: the pain when you hurt your leg, the annoying bugs, the cool lake dip, the tiredness under the heat, the relaxation putting on the flip flop.......and the tasty blueberry yogurt breakfast! Can´t wait to see your next adventure!!!
Maybe I'm wrong but this ASMR hiking video playing simultaneously two hikes recorded at different moments is the first kind of its art!!! And I'm watching such videos since years. Never saw anything like that before. You probably set the bar two levels higher. And then even combined with timelapse, drone and slider footage makes this a masterpiece. That's true art. You have my respect. ❤
That was a spectacle! Transitions between winter and summer were jaw-dropping. I'm speechless. Not only the beautiful scenery, but the effort you put into filming and then editing! Also I've never seen such a variety of framing and angles, literally every scene was different. Wow and thank you!
After seeing so many hiking videos of this region, this is the only complete hiking trip over the Prokletije or the (Accursed Mountains) that anyone has done before, you are amazingly inspiring,
My goodness, I am totally blown away! I love everything about this movie (yes, movie): Those seasonal changes?! The amount of work, the pace, the edit, the choice of music. How does this not have 2 million views already? Nothing short of phenomenal, spectacular, extraordinary! Well done! 😀👍❤️
Man, we’re always blown away by your films. You’re an outstanding film maker mate. 10/10 for creativity & production. And the scenery was absolutely stunning.
Beautiful serene music-flawless camera & drone shots-fearless hiker-breathtaking mountain scenery- both winter & summer scenes equal another 5 Star mini movie. Harmen, you are the best. Didn’t want it to end. Loved your dinner partner- the cat. 👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My opinions are: 1- Editing is so impressing. 2- The nature is amazing, maybe you can use slow motion techniques especially streaming water. 3- Maybe you can take footage under water. 4- You are so brave, being alone at the mountains is scary. 5- Drone footages are also amazing. My questions are: 1- Are you alone or one of your friend help you as a camareman? 2- Are you afraid of wild animals? 3- Have you ever met any wild animal that scare you? And thanks for sharing these kinds of videos with us, you made me admired.
Thanks for the compliments and the useful feedback! 1. I am alone 2. No, not at all. Animals are predictable and encounters with dangerous ones are extremely rare. 3. No. I've seen bears and poisonous snakes, but encountering them gave me a bigger feeling of wonder than fear.
The nights under the stars without tent, the foggy forest and the transition into winter over the riverbed impressed me the most. Thats a great hiking and filming project. Truly beautiful. Greetings
Among all the suffering and destruction that comes our way it's you Harmen who can draw us into a world of infinite peace and beauty. To me this is more than a film about a man going on a hike, it is a healing vision of the overwhelming beauty of our planet. This is the stuff we would only expect from BBC with an open budget. I smiled through the whole film but really laughed when the donkey was helping the other get up the hill. On the final frames it says Isaiah but I could not read the numbers. Best wishes
I want to comment on all your videos, but I'm always speechless and can't find the right words to explain the feelings, anxiety and sense of adventure that goes through me when I'm watching it. Your hikes are so rugged but the video's so flawless with beyond national geographic cinematic value. I'm so glad you're making these and continue to make it without deviating from your style. Infact, each film just tops the other. But each film is so unique. I usually have your channel playing on repeat. It's beautiful.
I'd like to thank you, Harmen. I've been watching your vidoes since Russia invaded Ukraine, which both are my neighbors. I was anxious and depressed, and "walking" with you among the beauty of the mountains helps to find an equilibrium inside me, it's some kind of meditation. Thank you ❤
Harmen the transition from summer to winter and vice versa is the best I have ever seen. The drone footage thing from summer to winter was mind boggling. Always a big admirer of you and your work.
I am passionate about hiking and nature videos. I am glad I found you yesterday! Already watched almost all of your videos! This is definitely the most special one. Thank you, awesome job! A big hug from the Netherlands!
Wow, what a crazy beautiful new film of your adventure. Wonderful and challenging. Looks like you had a perfect time out there. I hiked the Vichren and Musala in Bulgaria this year, and I almost saw nobody on my hikes. Love the Balkan mountains. Great work as always Harmen! Have a great weekend, Mario
@@HarmenHoek I still don't get how you did the shot around 9:02 so accurate so beautiful and a wonderful play between summer/winter! And awesome way how you fixed your leg btw (always good to have super glue and duct tape with you on the trail, this stuff literally saves lives) ;)
@@hikesome Well, I picked a whole bunch of shots before the trip I wanted to try to recreate. I printed out screenshots of the shots and the locations. On site I could get the should about 80% of what they should be, the last 15% I did in post (puppet warps), which took hours and hours and hours. (; Many shots didn't work out, mostly because there was way too much vegetation now to make it convincing, or I couldn't get the tripod high enough because of the lack of snow. Thank you very much for this video too. Another one of your beautiful works. The same trails in winter and summer, "incredible", I can imagine the work it took you to do all this. I never get tired of watching it over and over again. The Isle of skye is one that I love to watch without getting tired of it again. Thank you very much again. God bless you a lot, I'm living your travels in those places as if it were me, ☺. God bless you much.
Beautiful video. I don't know how it is possible for one person to create a "Masterpiece" such as this video. Really amazing. I can't even imagine what all it would entail in work. THANK YOU.
Beyond amazing! The scenery is as beautiful as any scenery anywhere, rivaling even that of Alaska and Yosemite. Your film making artistry is the best! Your cinematography, editing and storytelling skills are world class. The combination of shots from two different hikes at different times of the year is flawlessly executed! The music selection is spot on for the tone of the video and really helps to draw me into it. Thank you for all your work and dedication and bringing us along on your journey.
Your films are encouraging to all of those starting out on the journey of documenting our hikes and adventures. Thank you for your dedication to your story telling. Very inspirational.
This was breathtaking! Seriously, not only the places and the scenes comparing with winter, but the filming and editing and this spot on music.. Just epic! Thank you so much!
Harmen, you have been an inspiration for a while now. I value the effort, time and dedication that you put in every step, every shot and every moment out there. Thank you for helping me make my dreams reality.
Just stunning! So great that there are still some pure hiking films on UT. Really appreciate the difference between real cinematography and a tourist film shot with an iPhone. I like the music. It is subtle enough that it does not detract and it adds to the flow of the video. Besides , you could always turn down the audio or shut it off if you don"t like it. We get to know you through the filming and editing of what you take note of on your amazing adventures. Thanks for sharing!
The transitions were impressing! Very well done! I was so surprised to find a landscape in Albania reminding me on the Dolomites and Yosemite :) Thanks a lot, and I hope that your injury was not too bad.

As always, your photography skills are amazing, with such a great mix of close ups, footage showing you hiking and at camp (along with all the coffee making which I can see you love:)) and drone shots. The transitions between the seasons took my breath away and also just made me laugh with the delight of it. Maybe you've done this, but I think you should submit this to a film festival, a prestigious one, not that I know a lot about that, but IMHO, it would be a winner. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
Hi Kate, thanks for taking the time to comment! (: I haven't submitted it to a film festival, and actually haven't thought about it before. To me it feels like it's not good enough. I've watched Joeys video in the lot, that guy is great! Who knows ... (;

Man, we’re always blown away by your films. You’re an outstanding film maker mate. 10/10 for creativity & production. And the scenery was absolutely stunning.
You're the best! More to come!
Outstanding. I appreciate the music not being overbearing and not overly dramatic.
Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words (:
These are some of the most beautiful shots i have ever seen, wow
Thanks (:
Thank you for showing the beauty of our countries in the Balkans. Breathtaking.
My opinions are:
1- Editing is so impressing.
2- The nature is amazing, maybe you can use slow motion techniques especially streaming water.
3- Maybe you can take footage under water.
4- You are so brave, being alone at the mountains is scary.
5- Drone footages are also amazing.
My questions are:
1- Are you alone or one of your friend help you as a camareman?
2- Are you afraid of wild animals?
3- Have you ever met any wild animal that scare you?
And thanks for sharing these kinds of videos with us, you made me admired.
Thanks for the compliments and the useful feedback!
1. I am alone
2. No, not at all. Animals are predictable and encounters with dangerous ones are extremely rare.
3. No. I've seen bears and poisonous snakes, but encountering them gave me a bigger feeling of wonder than fear.
The Balkans mountains are absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. Thank you for talking us along. You choose the perfect season too.
They are indeed. I was so lucky with the weather!
Loves your content. It spreads peace and positive vibes.
Thanks man!
This made my day. I love every transitions. I hope someday I could be as adventurous as you. Keep on posting and inspiring others. 💪
Go for it!
I absolutely love the beginning where you contrast being there in winter and summer - looks like summer was way easier - what a wonderful video
No words to use…
man u are living the dream 👌🏽
It's hard work, but I enjoy every second of it. (;
Wow! So much steps, so much art, so much beaty! Thank you ❤️ Love our planet!
You are so welcome!
Thanks!
Thank you too! (:
You're a master at your craft, and your films make my spirit sing. Thank you
Awesome. Happy to hear that. Cheers
Straight masterpiece! In awe and can't find the words to describe the beautiful nature and amount of effort put into this content.
This is the best video ive seen in my life, so peaceful and calming. We need to leave this earth alone and just appericate its beauty.
Thanks. This earth is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing so much Peace and so much Beauty, Take care of yourself
Just how I intended it. (: thanks for the comment
The nights under the stars without tent, the foggy forest and the transition into winter over the riverbed impressed me the most. Thats a great hiking and filming project. Truly beautiful.
Greetings
Glad you liked it!
Best wishes
Isaiah 54:10. I appreciate you took the time to comment, put a smile on my face too. (: All the best!
Thanks for sharing that with me, appreciate it. (:
I'd like to thank you, Harmen. I've been watching your vidoes since Russia invaded Ukraine, which both are my neighbors. I was anxious and depressed, and "walking" with you among the beauty of the mountains helps to find an equilibrium inside me, it's some kind of meditation. Thank you ❤
Glad to hear so! Thanks
Stunning. Cinematography and editing worthy of David Lean! ❤️👍🏼
Wow, thank you!
Harmen the transition from summer to winter and vice versa is the best I have ever seen. The drone footage thing from summer to winter was mind boggling. Always a big admirer of you and your work.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Amazing! Masterpiece...
I am passionate about hiking and nature videos. I am glad I found you yesterday! Already watched almost all of your videos! This is definitely the most special one. Thank you, awesome job! A big hug from the Netherlands!
The Best video that i have ever seen in RUclips.
Thanks a lot Its amazing
Most welcome 😊
5 out of 5 stars!!! great filming and editing!
Wow, thanks!
I enjoyed your film again. It's fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Thanks so much! Always great to see a comment from you, Mario. It sure was a perfect time of the year, so much nice weather!
@@HarmenHoek I still don't get how you did the shot around 9:02 so accurate so beautiful and a wonderful play between summer/winter! And awesome way how you fixed your leg btw (always good to have super glue and duct tape with you on the trail, this stuff literally saves lives) ;)
@@hikesome Well, I picked a whole bunch of shots before the trip I wanted to try to recreate. I printed out screenshots of the shots and the locations. On site I could get the should about 80% of what they should be, the last 15% I did in post (puppet warps), which took hours and hours and hours. (;
Many shots didn't work out, mostly because there was way too much vegetation now to make it convincing, or I couldn't get the tripod high enough because of the lack of snow.
And yeah, I always bring superglue for that reason! Fixing shoes, tents, anything!
I can't believe you've lined up all these summer winter shots. It looks absolutely impossible, but you've somehow done it. Amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man, that was awesome. I hoped it would never end. My favorite spot was on top of the mountain 25:14
that view plus solutitude :)
Oh yes, that was a cool spot!
Really beautiful. Thank you
Nothing more to say, just thanks!
Thanks a lot!
I repeatedly watched your videos but didn't get bored at all, I hope you continue to upload videos every now and then
Thanks! More to come for sure!
Your videos are incredibly wonderful. Photography, filming, editing, absolutely amazing. Beautiful.🏕️🏞️
Thanks so much 😊
What a gift you have shared with us viewers. I cried watching this! I have no criticism to offer you, only to say I hope you listen and follow only your own intuitive guidance. You are an artist, with the help of our beautiful earth! I especially love that you take us on an incredible journey without the words!! Stunning… stunningly beautiful. Thank you so much for this. I can’t imagine the work you put into it. And glad your leg is o.k
Thanks for the comment, appreciate it a lot! My leg is ok and ready for another adventure. All the best!
Super gaaf weer man!!
Echt geweldig!🙏🏻
@@Wensmoos Gaaf, moet je doen! Laat tegen die tijd maar weten hoe het gaat / is gegaan. Benieuwd. (;
@harmen Hoek! We gaan het zeker doen! En ik zal je de status zeker door geven Harmen! Dankjewel!
bravo et merci
The parallell summer-winter theme is brilliant, I love it, great idea. Just beautiful all of it!
Thanks!
Thanks, Harmen. Its beautiful.
Thank you!
When I watch this... the experience is almost as if it is so deeply soaked in sorrow, but its pure and true and beautiful. It's not sad, but gentle. I am so glad to be a part of this even if just from viewing it. You encaptulate the effect of nature on life so well. The cinematics are brilliant btw, keep up the great work.
Thanks man! (:
You should consider experiencing it yourself.
@@adrian-vdr I have many times, I think thats probably why I enjoyed this video so much, because I had positive experiences related to it.
@@noahpaynter7138 great to hear it Noah!
Well done...i never can imaginy how nice are Albanians alps. Impres... Szalomik.
Been following for a few months now. I always play your video the last hour of the night before bedtime.
This is amazingly edited. Incredible footage.
Appreciate your work greatly. Lots of respect for your editing process as well.
Thank you for your artistry and experience of the world
Glad you enjoy it!
Glory to the Creator of the Peaks of the Balkans!
Good to see that your leg got healed pretty quick.
Great camera work, thank you Harmen!
Indeed! Thanks a lot
Dear Harmen you are an inspiring BEAST! love seeing your stuff! thanks!
I appreciate that!
Many thanks!
Beautiful video. I don't know how it is possible for one person to create a "Masterpiece" such as this video. Really amazing. I can't even imagine what all it would entail in work. THANK YOU.
Thanks a lot 😊
Amazing! And so peaceful
Thank you! 🙂
Thanks!
This was breathtaking! Seriously, not only the places and the scenes comparing with winter, but the filming and editing and this spot on music.. Just epic! Thank you so much!
Every frame of this video is a wallpaper
Thanks (:
We appreciate the beauty of the videos, and also in equal measure the great effort behind them. Thank you for sharing Harmen.
Thank you so much!
I watched this twice. This was so beautifully shot. A true love letter to magical Yosemite. Thank you. 👏🏼
Thank you!
Harmen, you have been an inspiration for a while now. I value the effort, time and dedication that you put in every step, every shot and every moment out there. Thank you for helping me make my dreams reality.
Thank you so much!
Hollywood doesn't have this quality of videos and cinematics just wow
Haha, thanks (:
@@HarmenHoek but seriously those scenes and cinematics are so so developed
I loved the transitions and the end result was just stunning! Thanks Harmen for the extra work.
Thank you so much!
When I watch your videos I feel nothing but joy. Congrats on yet another amazing film!
Just how I intent these videos to be. Thank you (:
It's the best healing video. Thankfully, I'm enjoying it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Happy to hear that!
I´m from Albania and this video is stunning!!!! WELL DONE!!! 😍
Glad you liked it!!
Wow, incredible, the greatest RUclips videographer of all time 👏👏👌👌👌
Wow, thanks!
The transitions were impressing! Very well done! I was so surprised to find a landscape in Albania reminding me on the Dolomites and Yosemite :) Thanks a lot, and I hope that your injury was not too bad.
Funny, because it also reminded me of the Sierras and a bit on Los Picos. The wound was bad, but is healing well now. Thanks (:
TBH im Speechless, this is too perfect
Fantastic. I prefer to have no commentary as it detracts from the stunning scenery and great camera work. Music is great too.
Awesome! Thank you!
I have waited for a long time , finally watched your new video! thank you!
So nice of you, thank you!
Your videos are gorgeous. Thank you for taking us to these places by sharing your experiences and filming them in great detail. I wait for the day you have millions of subscribers, you absolutely deserve it. I've just discovered your channel 2 days ago and have been binge watching since. Thank you for such great content!
Haha, happy to hear that. Thanks a lot.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, 🙌💫
WOW! I am a huge fan of all your films, but this one is in a class by itself!
BTW, would love to see you and Joey Coconato together again.
Hi Kate, thanks for taking the time to comment! (: I haven't submitted it to a film festival, and actually haven't thought about it before. To me it feels like it's not good enough.
I've watched Joeys video in the lot, that guy is great! Who knows ... (;
at minute 28.04 only with the acoustic transition from nature to society you made a perfect esemplification of everything that i stand for
Such an amazing video! Watching your videos really inspires me to get out there and do something like this
Thanks!
such beauty, it is simply stunning. It takes my breath away.
Thank you!
Wow, well done! Beautiful places, beautiful hike. Greetings!
Many thanks!
