- Hiking Albania Northern Alps Theth - Qurec - Curraj Eperm - Komani Lake
In this episode we, Don and Wald, are hiking in the Albanian Alps. During our 5 day hike we crossed the Nikaj Mertur Regional National Park and enjoyed the wild Albanian nature. Visiting the so called ‘most remote villages’ of Albania we discovered that they have turned into ghost towns where only in summer some families return to exchange the modern lifestyle of Tirana or Skodar for the traditional mountain life.
The hiking trails outside the known centres like Theth or Valbona are still a well-kept secret, so chances are that you won’t see any other hikers during the day. But then again if you are tired from a long day and in need for the traditional Albania hospitality than don’t worry. The families your will encounter in the area will invite your for a coffee and before you know it there is a complete meal in front of you with milk, cheese, sheep meet and of course loads of homemade Raki!
Be aware that in the summer months water can be scares on some trials like the route from Theth to Qurec. So plan your trip well and make sure you take enough water with you. Also there is a camp site at Curraj Eperm we can recommend. During certain periods in summer there is even a make shift bar.
We ended our trip by taking the ferry from Fierza to Koman including a layover in the ferry hostel Berisha. After swimming in the lake we had time to relax before we took a bus back to Tirana.
Enjoy the video!

Nice video with beautyfull music .i love Albania .thnx guys
Nice trip. I was there last year, in July. I took Valbona - Theth (very popular), Theth - Curraj i Eperm (noone, even Danelit was empty), Curraj i Eperm - Valbona (absolutely hardcore and empty trail). I dream about that place since than, and I'm still thinking about how to get back in there :) I would add, that the trail is poorly marked, so I had to use GPS and general navigation skills as there was litereally no trail there.
Thanks. Good addition. We were on the crossroad in Qurec and saw the trail to Valbone. We can imagine it was hardcore! Keep dreaming... you will be back!!
That road has seen more Polish and Czech then albanians all together ,well done keep coming you are more then welcome to visit our national parks
Curraj I Epërm is awesome! We were there 2 weeks this summer at Agims camping site and boltet some climbing routes in the area 😊
You guys are so cool❤ And so cute ☺ My first trip to albania was on march 12,2019-march 27,2019. It was an awsome experience. Btw,if you ever decide to go back, please visit Theth,Berat and Valbona. It is heaven on earth.

GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE AND BAD NEWS FOR NATURE. THE ROAD TO CURRAJ I EPERM IS BEEN OPENED UP AND ACCESSIBLE BY CAR
Is road going via Lekbibaj and Vrana?
Lekbibaj, Villagers and also immigrants that were born there, gathered up money and make the road available
I'll also warn anyone reading that, as a result of the road now being the primary route of travel (though even it is still only sparsely-travelled as of 2021), the main walking routes from both Vrane and Curraj e Poshtem to Curraj i Eperm are even less well-travelled than they once were, and while still navigable, are more difficult to follow than they once were. Parts are very much in need of clearing/re-marking.
