I enjoy strong, confident, badass waifus over gratuitous fan service any day. AK has a lot of character in their characters, and I appreciate that more than the dozens of games that are just the same T&A over and over again.
I know you can complete any game with like subpar units, but from what i have watched from the vid the gacha sounds horrible to just get the strong characters.
Because having most of them built trivialises the game. And they're so many of them, the only question now is it the one you want?
nah the vintage limiteds that the vid complained about as hard to get are actually not strong at all. Newer operators are a lot stronger and easier to get. But people want to get those shiny premium old limited for waifu/collection reason. That's when they got you.
The divorced bowling ball who shall not be named hates it because it's 6 months behind and the arknights management doesn't cater to him. Also he doesn't like it when the community criticizes his opinions about the operators so he left the community. Nothing related to the game itself
Every now and then he will say some random inflammatory shit about any past games he played when his views start to dip just to gain traction again. So it's best to ignore whatever he says.
I've been playing the game for almost 3 years now. I do know for sure is that it doesn't matter if you're a whale of f2p, if you don't understand how the enemies and stages work then you'll lose. Understanding how the stage works and having a strategy is more important, as you can just pick from a list of the top characters, choose whatever from the rest and still win.
Would I recommend the game to another person? Yes, but I would not force them to stay long if they find it no longer enjoyable in the future. Would I recommend them to learn about the story? Eh. It's an acquired taste.
My goldenglow disagrees, I understand what you mean and it's definitely true for more challenging content, but there's quite a few "win button" characters

@@Lakeses EN can't read moment, I literally said that it's true for challenging content, but I'm not gonna pretend that most event bosses don't die to a single surtr or mlynar skill cycle, and let's not forget how every new dps can solo story mode patriot.
Arknights is 4.5 years old but close to 5 years now.
Trying to figure out what your serious about and just joking bout is difficult lol so not sure what to talk about. So.....uh...if you have any questions im free to answer lol.

I'm largely F2P, having not invested any money for the first four years, and the one time I invested money yielded no significant results. The argument about "falling behind" is irrelevant, as you're not competing with other players in multiplayer PVP. It's a single player game with more characters than you can conveniently use, so skipping characters has no effect on your game. Spending money to get every character neither improves your odds of getting them, nor does it make the game any easier.
There is an Arknights anime if you're interested. 8 episodes per season. It adapts the main story from the beginning with an added touch of humanity and good visuals.
one of the special thing about arknights is definitely in all aspect, gameplay will always has new mechanics in every events, they still try to invent new gamemode while keeping the core gameplay and not just cheap minigame, its definitely the most effortful content i seen from other gachas, other than that story is pretty much a whole planet history of their own with their own concept and variety from angels who monopolized gun and rifles with halo that give them neurolink empath to eachother and other blessing to seaborn creature with hivemind colony that has a what if world domination alternatives if not monitored, same thing with music they prob tried most genre already, its hard to see whats so special if you havent experience most of it and the people who does get stucked for different reason, one of the reason why it keeps being in top 10 popular gacha
One thing that really contributed to me stayjng around in arknights was the progression, unlike a lot of other gachas, there's no RNG when building characters, you always know exactly how much you need to fully build a character, wich lets ypu build lots of characters and doesn't punish you for experimenting with characters with kits that aren't meta

The fallacy in the Tectone/Asmongld logic is that if you don't continue paying $100 like every month or few months you just end up being behind again and as F2P you do start to catch up in relative terms. What I mean by this is that a F2P player after like 5 years is only going to be still several months behind a whale not 5 years behind a whale. But if you're chasing whales you would've paid $100/month for 5 years or $6,000 to just be a few months ahead of a F2P.
Of course it's relative to the game, some games are a lot more P2W than others.
Whales end up wasting a lot of money to get things immediately because as they play they're going to be passively getting duplicates of characters that they bought all the potentials for whereas for a F2P that might be a new character or needed potential for an existing character.

Pretty much as for me a F2P on AL, AK, AG, BA, HI3 And Genshin most of my Accounts are decent enough to clear some of the endgame content, sure spending some would greatly help you in the games progress but "YOU STILL HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK", it doesn't solve the problem on hand it how much money you throw at it
Ive recently downloaded arknights and learned that spending money or even whaling characters does not matter if you dont know how to use strategies and planning. Also theres tons of lore videos and story summaries that are very good if you dont read the story in game
Also yeah, do not underestimate the music in arknights
Arknights should not be this good. Easily one of the best games ever made including big PC titles thanks to IS gamemodes.
Playing for 2 years, completely f2p, i like the characters, i like the sidestories writing, music, rogue-like mode, and ability to win with skill and knowledge of your operators. Tried other gachas a couple of times, but eh, either i dont like design of characters or gameplay.
You know like in long running series, they hype up some characters in the story before you meet them and then when you actually meet them they match the hype?
That's it. That's how Arknights sells their characters.

My first time playing Arknights will be out today.
In my case it depends sometimes I want to know the story but there are days when I just want a skip button, and I think most of us who play things like this know that we are being manipulated but we see that this money in a way returns to us in the form of content, I can not speak for more games as the only gacha I play is Nikke but in the short time I've been playing I have seen that in one way or another Shift Up gives something back to the community.

From what I've seen of enfield its either bare bones or not ready for release in a timely fashion. I'll form an opinion on enfield when it actually comes out. if you want something new girls frontline 2 is getting a global release soon.
Tower defense? well that has connotations, I've played tower defense. I would say Arknights is a phone gacha game with enemies traveling along lanes like a tower defense, but the main thing is that decisions matter. by that I mean placements, skill timings, deployment order, team lineup. can spell the difference between victory and defeat.
Usually fair, especially considering you can borrow a friend support unit to help clear maps.
Gacha is units only, not rolling a second banner for weapons, there are plenty of activities that don't require activity (stamina. whatever the term for regenerating action that comes back 10 points an hour in phone games)
old events exist in the game, maps and story at least for a new player to experience and get the first clear pull rewards.
if you know what you are doing its a fair and nuanced game.
but expect to not know what you are doing for several months.

Anyway I find arknights gameplay very fun and the lore quite expanded. I've been playing for two and a half years and it's the only gacha that I played this long without real dropout.
Kektone is just an anti and grifter, lol. I wouldn’t trust his opinion on any game (or its communities), be it Arknights, Genshin, or the next game he’ll play for 6 months and abandon because of “toxicity”.
So Arknights its a very F2P friendly, the soft pity of 60 aprox. Its very helpful, its easy to farm the gacha currency but its a tower defense, Heavy story focused (style of a old visual novel without voice) i like the story its very very long, so if you like the story and the tower defense gameplay you will like it

What makes me stay in arknights is just one thing...characters progression. No more stupid rng, max level, max skill, done. M3 or module if it nece2. But ofc what hook me in the first place back when 2021 is story and character design
Theres an Anime to this aswell. 2 Seasons covering Chapter 0-6. Love to see more of this. Tip: Get one character to Elite 2 as this will let you get support operators which are maxed out. Amiya is a good first choice for this.

I dropped Arknights after about 3 or 4 months, half of the coolest characters are limited, the rates on banners are terrible, and it takes extremely long to get the currency. It's absolutely terrible for new players, I will never play it again unless they give some serious new player rewards, my 3 or 4 months went down the toilet on one banner, 180 pulls, and I didn't get it, so I quit. Again, if you're new, stay far away, unless you don't care about what characters you get.

Isn't that how you're supposed to play most gachas? Not like not having all the top units make you unable to play the game.
@mr.clevertrick8710 My issue with Arknights was that if there are specific characters you want, it is extremely difficult to get them. The rates on the banners are extremely low, the rate in which you get the currency to pull is extremely low, and there are a ton of limited characters that new players have almost no chance of getting. In the other Gatcha games I have played, there are ways for newer players to go after the specific characters they like, and in some cases, there's even selectors
@@gaius2451 yes, but you're focusing too much on the gacha aspect. I know that new players are going to have a hard time getting someone they want, they're late.
I'm emphasising that it's ok if you don't have the one you want now, as the stages are very open ended for you to try many other solutions to beat it even if you don't rely on the gacha aspect.
@mr.clevertrick8710 It definitely depends on what kind of player you are, that's why in my OP I mentioned don't start unless you aren't really concerned with specific characters, as for ne, I was 4 month in, I used all of my resources on one banner, and didn't get the limited. I then looked at my account, which had 0 of my top ten characters, and at that point I just gave up, the pity doesn't carry over to other banners, and there was no way I would have had enough to pull on the upcoming banners. All 4 months where totally wasted and I had nothing to show for it, the other gatchas have had much more return on investment for the things that I as a player care about, if I don't have 1 or 2 characters that I feel really attracted too, I just loose interest after a while.
Just adding some amendments for anyone else reading the thread:
-You are able to farm the pulling currency (5pulls/wk f2p without farming, ~10/wk if u do, at the cost of not being able to raise ur units during the farm time)
-The rate is 2% for the highest rarity, 6*
-Limited banners are the minority and tbh, half of the limited units kinda suck compared to the normal pool. At most its 4 limited units/yr excluding collab banners which have their own system that greatly favors the player (guar pity is lowered from 300 to 120 and all non 6* collab chars r basically guar)
-Pulling will provide currency for the rebate system, which u can redeem for any nonlimited 5-6*, or for more pulls. The caveat is the ones available for redemption r on a 2 wk cycle, so ull have to wait for ur target to rotate in, and only 2 of each rarity r available at any pt in time
Edit:
-Skins are free (the required currency is obtained from first clears of stages)
-There is an event archive (new events have a 1 year waiting period, then they will rerun, after which they'll eventually be added to the archive)
