Shadows of Almia was actually my first ever game (helped learning to read). I’ll admit though, even if stylus’s come back on a new device, the circle shaped damage on DS screens probably means there won’t be any more :/ My one DSlite still has faint circle marks on the screen though XD
Honestly one of the neatest things from this game was the dungeons that would have static floors in between the random layout ones. It really helped make dungeons feel seperate from each other and i really wish theyd bring this bavk and expand upon it
Gates to Infinity was my first PMD-Game. I loved it dearly as a kid, even though I could never quite beat it. Is it stellar? No. But it holds a special place in my heart.
Its was my first PMD game as well. I got to the postgame and lost my game as I was doing the Meloetta. My team was Pikachu and a Tepig I let my brother name(THEMISS, Yes all caps). Man I miss that game.
@Aeenjyl Snivy and Pikachu... Pikachu is my favorite Pokemon, while Snivy has my favorite evolution branch and starter set of any Pokemon, with Serperior being my second favorite Pokemon (it would be number one if Pikachu doesn't exist). :)
@Aeenjyl I go Snivy for the player, and then something else for the partner. I'm DX, I just rolled with the quiz results, but chose a Chikorita as my partner. Chikorita is SOOO good in that game
I think this game definitely needs a remake Gates I think has arguably the best story in the series but it needs more postgame, difficulty and QOL and pokemon variety
This game had its flaws but this was the Era of gen 5 when gamefreak was trying to mix up the series formula. I'd say what they added for extra content succeeded. I adored the paradise system and the dungeon outer levels. But the one mission at a time really hampered it. The slow text speed was just annoying but not detrimental. The story was decent. Alittle darker than the first game but on par with sky. The twist of munna was neat. I think a big part of the hate is the gen 5 hate that was common at the time and since this was a spin off people didn't think to give it a second chance.
If they remade this and removed the one mission at a time thing. Added more starters and upped the text speed but changed little else it'd be fantastic.
Honestly, I tried to play it, but the dungeon gameplay. The dungeons look ugly too. The game is too slow and the mons are too static, their animations are horrible, etc.
I enjoy Gates. It has a lot of flaws but I mostly enjoyed it regardless. I love being able to play as your recruits and grinding through missions to get items. Not only is playing as other Pokemon quite fun, but it helps if you run out of items and the experience rolls over as well if you find yourself struggling in the story under leveled. Super didn't even give you the option to do more missions or go to other dungeons if you were stuck in the Story.
I love Gates to Infinity. I don’t see why it gets so much hate, especially considering how well written the characters are. It’s also got plenty of nuance with its messages, like with Gurdurr’s message about it not mattering if you can’t do something as well as you could before. I feel like people only put it down because it both came after Sky and doesn’t allow you to take multiple missions in one go.
I will say, given that the only way to obtain the building materials for the facilities is through missions, the inability to take multiple missions at once (in which this is the only game in the series where you can only take one mission at a time) is a fairly sizable downside as it adds a bunch of unnecessary grinding.
There's a lot wrong with gti 1. Lack of starters/ diversity almost every Mon was from gen 5 2. The storyline and dialog was super super slow 3. You could only take one mission at a time 4. The boss was super easy 5. Post game qas locked behind a paywall
For me, I didn’t enjoy its presentation or gameplay that much. The overworld itself felt strangely muddy to me, even after you renovate the land, the dungeon designs were super forgettable, and the lack of a post game where you recruit bosses (my favorite part of a PMD game) really sucks. The limited roster of Pokémon in general really hampers the experience imo.
As someone who played Rescue Team and Explorers... I can answer why my own hate with two words. Basic Attack. The way I learned to play the original games with item conservation and careful planning died horribly and paved the way for item and move spamming. It felt so utterly different in how the game functioned despite minimal but key things getting changed that I couldn't finish the game. The new changes getting pushed into the newer games like DX kept me from buying them as well.. which is.. very sad.
I’ve been playing this game off and on for two years and don’t want to spoil it so thank you for giving me the motivation to finish so I can watch the rest of this
Wow, I played the entirety of this game back in the day, but I cannot remember 95% of the things that happened. This was a nice reminder and a tiny stroll down memory lane
i'm also giving this game another chance and it's actually been pretty fun so far i don't know why i hated it to the degree that i did all those years ago
This game wasn’t the best, but it doesn’t deserve the sheer amount of hate it got. It’s got dunsparce as a major character with a really good arc. That alone gives it marks
25:03 ??? Gates to Infinity is the one and only game in the series that made me cry, and it did again when I revisited it a couple years ago. The others got me choked up, but that’s it. How could it possibly NOT be known for its storytelling?
the reason you can only take 1 mission at a time is because the bittercold wanted to draw in all our negative emotions to make itself stronger honestly the 1-mission at a time thing is probably the worst part about Gates to infinity, if they ever remake it for switch, they just need to remove that, there's no real reason for it
Is that the case that's really stupid but if they do remake it thats not the only thing they need to fix in gti they need to fix the super slow pacing of the game and the lack of diversity
thats only my random guess for comedy, super mystery dungeon is fine because you can take mulitple quests and the diversity is fine to me, its gates to infinity is the worse mystery dungeon game mainly, to me, because of the '1 quest per day' gimmick which is never explained @@sweetwolfsteve5583
i have it on my replay list but i just cant get into it, you have to do like 3+ quests to progess the story, but only 1 a day? i feel like the real reason is because people werent ranking up a ton during the main-game, so the developers thought by slowing it down, you could rank up more? @@sweetwolfsteve5583
overall I think rescue team, and explorers are just the best PMD games, but gates to infinity is honestly one of my favorites. Something about it is just so nice idk what it is. It felt like a good story, some obvious plot twists but overall I quite liked it
I don’t remember this game too well but I remember being … disappointed. But maybe I’ll give it a replay, I also remember getting through it very fast … which was part of my disappointment >_> but maybe I’ll like it more now
I loved gates to infinity even feeling it’s better than sky. I cared about the characters and even cried at the end where pikachu my partner says with you being back into his life it is truly paradise. ;w; I also love quagsire’s little crying sprite. The only reason gates to infinity gets hate is because how short it is but even despite that what little the game is is better than sky . To me at least
23:00 This boss fight take me 12 hours to beat due to me not having items or a way to win easily but on my winning attempt, I got Oneshotted by the frog THE FROG'S REVENGE. I had a revival seed but it did 999 dam :
This game I find charming, and how it's story still holds a nice meaning. And it was mailed to me by a person I met a few years ago. And I still have it. It may not be of those of before and Super But it's good in its own way
I knew I wasn't the only one who despised the slow text speed, thank god for Citra letting me speed up just a little so that I can play at a semi normal speed while having actually decent text speed I honestly didn't like how pessimistic the start came off as, plus only one mission at a time is kinda lame, but other than that I thought it was an enjoyable play Also, honestly, I feel like a mix of a classic pokemon and a mystery dungeon game with freely going between worlds would be cool, like pokemon you catch in the other world turning into team members in the mystery dungeon world.
I played through all the PMD games a few years ago. GTI is definitely the weakest entry but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game. The story is just as charming but the lack of QOL features for such a grindy game is frustrating! I wish you could do multiple requests per dungeon like the other games so you could more easily get materials
When I played this game I chose Axew and late game with Axew is STRONG. The one move that made it happen was Dual Chop and having it be upgraded so much. 2 strong hitting attacks makes it useful for single-targeted attacking. Also with having Dragon Rage early which helps a lot due to it being a fixed damage move meaning it can handle them well unless the enemy hits from a distance. Also, I at one point encountered the ONLY shiny in the game. It is a Legendary Boss and it is the only shiny that is stronger than the non-shiny version. Shiny Ho-Oh. Didn't win against it however.
I like to watch videos on my old phone with safari, but whenever it’s a long one and I’m too busy, I tap on it then close the app and lock the phone until I have time to watch it. I thought youtube was autoplaying some video about that Disney infinity game or whatever it was with the figures and token things that’s similar to sky landers and thought “why the fuck would I wanna watch this” Then I remembered I was gonna watch a pokemon mystery dungeon video
this game doesn’t have the best story, and it’s a bit clunky, but god the world it sets up is so whimsical, even more than any other game in the series imo. In my opinion it manages to make exploring so interesting and the characters are great, for all its problems it really feels like it has a soul like the rest of the series
I’m still peeved that you can only set out to do one mission at a time. At least when I play, I stock pile mission requests of dungeons that are for the same place. I like to be efficient and finish as many as I can at once. I think a lot of people do the same because it’s just more efficient to get rescue points and whatever rewards you’d get too. Especially for dungeons where you find it’s not worth going unless you can get the most out of it. Like say if there’s a Pokèmon in that dungeon that has a move that attacks the whole room. Annoying but it might be worth going if you have a lot of points you can get from there by completing requests. Or if there’s a Pokèmon you want to recruit but it’s not worth going to you to make it to their floor unless you can finish requests along the way Why did they not let you finish multiple requests at once?😭 I mean I guess so you don’t get building resources easily. But even with that most things aren’t worth it to build. And the type dojo’s or whatever they’re called can be contained in one building. Having one for each type is unnecessary, takes some time to get to them all if you want to use them all and they take up half the map😑 When you can just have one dojo for all the types but still using the same rules they had only using them once a day for each type
The text speed is what killed my whole enjoyment of the game and makes me refuse to play it again. I just can’t press the B button (I think?) all the time just tot get the text ti go faster, when the option menu is right there!!
I remember waiting so long for this game as a very big fan of the previous two titles. I've waited for 12pm to download it from the shop so i can play it right away. I was so hyped to play a new Mystery Dungeon only to be through in like 6-8 hours. It is very low on content in comparison. From the lack of starters and general lack of Pokemon variety, to the boring story until i saw that basically the whole postgame was locked behind a paywall... I felt so betrayed for my money and time. Before i was buying Super Mystery Dungeon i had to be sure this game has it's standard. It was finally great again. (Sky is still the best one so far.)

god I wish they would make more ranger and mystery dungeon games
As great as Ranger was, it was created to display the gimmick of the stylus. I would love a sequel, but I just can’t see it working out well
