@@Laidengizer011 The 60's and 80's. America, especially this song just is so beautiful how they are in sync with vocal's and body movements. What also makes them stand out is they are innocently being HOT! Much Blessings to them and family!
This is one of my favorites songs from the many thousands that I have heard across 55 years of living. Also there is something about this video that is so attractive to watch. A fine group of musicians and singers who look like real men who create world class music.
Sadly, this would prove to be Americas only Top 10 hit during the 80s. They ruled the 70s and deserved more recognition for their 80s output. Thankfully they're still touring and are today held in high regard as masters of Soft Rock!
@@emilymalden3310 America were originally Dan Peek, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell. As a trio they would score several hits between 1972 and 1977. Dan Peek left the band in 1977 and America continued on as a duo, Beckley and Bunnell, and they would release several albums between 1979 and 1985, still only one single, You Can Do Magic became a big hit. The other players in this video were their backing band, both on record and in live settings. Beckley and Bunnell has kept going and are still active in 2021, although there's been 10 years since their last album. Dan Peek became a successful Christian contemporary artist but sadly died in 2009. America is a great band, in fact one of my all time favourites!
@@emilymalden3310 Just in case you're not familiar with the band here's some info: America basically were a close harmony Folk Rock trio inspired by Crosby Still and Nash and hit the big time with their first single on Warner Brothers, the now classic A Horse With No Name. Although they would would score a couple of follow up hits in 1972/1973, things really went into the stratosphere when they got Beatles producer George Martin to produce their albums, starting with Holiday in 1974 and Hearts in 1975. Massive hit singles like Sister Golden Hair and Lonely People made America arguably the equal of The Eagles in term of commercial and artistic impact. Things begun to go sour in the late 70s, after losing Dan Peek to religion and the music climate was changing as well, moving away from the Soft Rock of America to New wave and Disco inflected music. Still they were a popular touring ensemble and would get a comeback hit in 1982 with You Can Do Magic, a more hook laden synth popper. More or less not a functional concern in the mid/ late 80s, Beckley and Bunnell resurrected America in the mid 90s and have been relaxing albums sporadically ever since. As a touring band, they're massively popular and they're first class artists, singers and songwriters, writing more or less every song they record themselves. Their to date latest album Back Pages, however, consisted of 12 cover songs and it's a fine album. God bless America! The band, that is!
@@emilymalden3310 I'm a huge 60s/ 70s poprock fan and I would like to point you to my favourite artist of all time, Gilbert O'Sullivan. Are you familiar with him? An English/Irish pop artist who was one of the biggest pop stars between 1970 and 1975. Hits such as Alone Again Naturally, Clair and Get Down were all charttopper either in Britain or America. He blended Beatle esque pop songcraft with music hall sensibilities and wrote some unique songs! He's still going strong in 2021!
4 quitarist and 3 singing in harmony! How can you possibly be more classic rock than that? Right you are! Add percussion to it...I keep current with my rock and metal! But it's a total joy going back in time and listening to this stuff again! Unforgettable and timeless
Great song, I remember the part where they sing "and if I wanted to, I could never be free" really got to me, I miss the days when pop music sounded like this, I consider 1975 to 1984 to be the best era of pop music

Late 1970's at the town pool in a small midwest American town on a warm summer day, America playing on the pool speakers for the teenage lifeguards. I was around 10 years old and the summer seemed long - no school in sight, there was nothing but the pure freedom of childhood and summer play, tomorrow and the next days would be the same, as far as my youthful eyes could see. I can remember that feeling of blissful freedom, but I will never experience it again. This band and a few others are tangled up in those good memories.

Music has so many meanings. It's what touches our souls. 1982 … I was 31 years old and starting a family when this song was released. Family’s always been high on my priority list and it still is even at 71 years old. 40 years have gone by since its release and this song reminds me of my life as a young man. “You Can Do Magic” is a song that reminds me of my daughter. She’s been the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world from the day I first laid eyes on her. I tell her how beautiful she is and how much I love her when I get to speak to her … my girl “can do magic” because she has put a spell on me that only a loving father feels from the love I have for her … and without judgement. No matter who or what she’s turned out to be, her dad loves her very much, always. It’s “Magic …”
Here it is almost August of 2024 and I'm still listening to this and remembering the words/chords just as if I heard them yesterday for the first time. 54 years old and you know what the magic is here? Remembering the first time I heard this as a kid, closing my eyes and seeing myself laying in bed with this playing on the radio on my bedside table; me being 12 years old again. How is THAT for magic?
My favorite America song of all time is "Horse with No Name," about the foray in the desert. This song is number two for me. What an AWESOME GROUP with timeless appeal!

Doo, doo, doo... Doo, doo, doo it... Doo, doo, doo it... And when the rain is beatin' Upon the window pane And when the night it gets so cold When I can't sleep Again you come to me I hold you tight, the rain disappears Who would believe it With a word you dry my tears You can do magic You can have anything that you desire Magic, and you know You're the one who can put out the fire You know darn well When you cast your spell you will get your way When you hypnotize with your eyes A heart of stone can turn to clay Doo, doo, doo it... Doo, doo, doo do... And If I wanted to I could never be free I never believed it was true But now it's so clear to me You can do magic You can have anything that you desire Magic, and you know You're the one who can put out the fire You know darn well When you cast your spell you will get your way When you hypnotize with your eyes A heart of stone can turn to clay Doo, doo, doo it... Doo, doo, doo do... Doo, doo, doo it... (You're the one who can put out the fire) Doo, doo, doo it... Today's music airwaves is desperately lacking in this type of music. Music that is raw, melodic, emotionally uplifting, and resonates with our feelings.
Heck today music most lacks anything good in it, musicians who lack any talent except the ability to scream in to a microphone or cuss and call that good music.
. . . check out Alizee or Joyce Jonathan. . .quality music has a universal sound. . . you don't have to speak or understand French. . .but you, if you are open to new sounds, can sense and feel the pure magic in the next generations and their transcending music that will blow away stuff from the 20th century. . just wait a decade or so. . .(the comments above are IMHO) & the fact that historically all music evolves, changes & progresses into new sounds & genres by observing & practicing the previous generations works AND then thru hard work, some luck & inner inspiration from their selves or their friends take music to the next level. . . have faith that things WILL improve & get better. . .the BEST is yet to come. . .

I earn up to $180K per year, but nothing to show for it yet
There are a lot of people like this. Im 52 and just getting serious about retirement. Its sad because the time to get serious was 20 years ago or even younger.
For me, I'm quite lucky exposed to financial planning at early age, started work at 21 and invested to my 401k through my employer, going forward I purchased first home at 33, unfortunately got laid-off afterwards, amid 2020 covid-outbreak. At once, I hired an advisor to help stay afloat, and as of today, I'm only 25% short of achieving my 7-figure ballpark goal after subsequents investments.
My advisor is Laura Grace Abels, a renowned figure in portfolio diversity. I recommend researching her further on the web, she's well established with over two decades of experience in her line of work.

I'm in their age group, so if they can rock on, so can I.

@@Laidengizer011 The 60's and 80's. America, especially this song just is so beautiful how they are in sync with vocal's and body movements. What also makes them stand out is they are innocently being HOT! Much Blessings to them and family!
@@JoleneSailer What about the 50s, 70s and 90s?? Still some great new stuff there.
This is one of my favorites songs from the many thousands that I have heard across 55 years of living. Also there is something about this video that is so attractive to watch. A fine group of musicians and singers who look like real men who create world class music.
I love this band
I hear you, I was 15 when this came out. Time really blows by!
Wow, my sentiments exactly! I thought what a nice group of man's men, masculine, clean, handsome and talented.
Amazing band for over 50 years
Sadly, this would prove to be Americas only Top 10 hit during the 80s. They ruled the 70s and deserved more recognition for their 80s output. Thankfully they're still touring and are today held in high regard as masters of Soft Rock!
I'd consider them lucky to pull this off in the 80s
Are they all still living?
America is one of the best bands period. Real musicians.

I met these guys in person years ago in person in the late 90's and they are the most friendliest people. They loved signing autograph's.

It wasn't underrated at all. If anything, it was overplayed on the radio. I dare say it was overrated (although I do like this song!).
@@DJKinney U have a point but when compared 2 Elton John, America's DEFINITELY UNDERR8D!!!!!! I base it on their similar musicals styles & chart success.
Same here, except I'm five years older. and kids were 6 & 5...

You are just slightly older as I was 11 in 1981. 😉
Actually takes me back in time to relieve those moments this music expressed much of what was felt

I never believed in things I couldn't see
I said if I can't feel it then how can it be
No, no magic could happen to me
And then I saw you
I couldn't believe it, you took my heart
I couldn't retrieve it, said to myself
What's it all about
Now I know there can be no doubt
You can do magic
You can have anything that you desire
Magic, and you know
You're the one who can put out the fire
You know darn well
When you cast your spell you will get your way
When you hypnotize with your eyes
A heart of stone can turn to clay
Doo, doo, doo it...
Doo, doo, doo...
Doo, doo, doo it...
Doo, doo, doo it...
And when the rain is beatin'
Upon the window pane
And when the night it gets so cold
When I can't sleep
Again you come to me
I hold you tight, the rain disappears
Who would believe it
With a word you dry my tears
You can do magic
You can have anything that you desire
Magic, and you know
You're the one who can put out the fire
You know darn well
When you cast your spell you will get your way
When you hypnotize with your eyes
A heart of stone can turn to clay
Doo, doo, doo it...
Doo, doo, doo do...
And If I wanted to
I could never be free
I never believed it was true
But now it's so clear to me
You can do magic
You can have anything that you desire
Magic, and you know
You're the one who can put out the fire
You know darn well
When you cast your spell you will get your way
When you hypnotize with your eyes
A heart of stone can turn to clay
Doo, doo, doo it...
Doo, doo, doo do...
Doo, doo, doo it...
(You're the one who can put out the fire)
Doo, doo, doo it...
(You're the one who can put out the fire)
All right
You can do it
Thank you very much, you can do magic girl

Today's music airwaves is desperately lacking in this type of music. Music that is raw, melodic, emotionally uplifting, and resonates with our feelings.
check out Mayer Hawthorne - Crime
Heck today music most lacks anything good in it, musicians who lack any talent except the ability to scream in to a microphone or cuss and call that good music.
perhaps not so much with the younger on average though listener's yes, they may see as well as we just individually and more.
. . . check out Alizee or Joyce Jonathan. . .quality music has a universal sound. . . you don't have to speak or understand French. . .but you, if you are open to new sounds, can sense and feel the pure magic in the next generations and their transcending music that will blow away stuff from the 20th century. . just wait a decade or so. . .(the comments above are IMHO) & the fact that historically all music evolves, changes & progresses into new sounds & genres by observing & practicing the previous generations works AND then thru hard work, some luck & inner inspiration from their selves or their friends take music to the next level. . . have faith that things WILL improve & get better. . .the BEST is yet to come. . .

America another song i grew up on when i was young everywhere i went that song was playing & there i was singing it like crazy a song of memories still enjoy listening to America the best song , off topic but i have been curious for a while, I intend retiring/working much less in 5 years and keen to know best, how people split their pay, how much of it goes into savings, spendings or investments? I earn up to $180K per year, but nothing to show for it yet
My younger days song, for someone who needs some catch-up, consider the 80/20 model. Needs and wants / Investments
At once, I hired an advisor to help stay afloat, and as of today, I'm only 25% short of achieving my 7-figure ballpark goal after subsequents investments.
bravo, this is striking! mind sharing info of the advisor guiding you pleas? i'm in dire need of growing my reserve
My advisor is Laura Grace Abels, a renowned figure in portfolio diversity. I recommend researching her further on the web, she's well established with over two decades of experience in her line of work.
