I think electric generators direct is estimating the end of November. I'd recommend breaking in by running for an hour with no load and doing an oil change. My oil was already dirty from the factory machining. After the oil change run again for an hour with no load and check the oil. Mine was OK, no metal filings, etc. I then ran for an hour under a light load. And then another hour under a light load and then 3 hours powering the house under a medium load only kicking in the AC at the end. It is also recommended before starting for the first time to remove the spark plug and squirt a tablespoon of oil into the cylinder and hitting start a few times to lube the cylinders. Then replace the park plug and start it up.
It allows the engine to run at a lower RPM when not under a heavy load. So you'd turn on the idle switch if you plan on using it as backup for longer durations.

They're oos everywhere. Backorder is 2 months plus. Northern Tool is showing 105 days (3 1/2 months) backorder. I ordered the first week in July and just received mine today.
@@icebreaker7079 Thanks for the info and tips !
Great this video
What’s the idle switch used for?
It allows the engine to run at a lower RPM when not under a heavy load. So you'd turn on the idle switch if you plan on using it as backup for longer durations.
Is the GP17500E twin cylinder or single?
I believe it’s a twin.
Why does it look like its burning oil?
It only smoked for about 20 seconds. It’s possible I slightly over filled it but I suspect there was some grease/oil inside the components from the factory that just burned off. Not sure which but it doesn’t smoke anymore.
@@LittleMountainLife thanks ......its a nice machine too.👍
@@LittleMountainLife I was going to ask if it stopped because it's not the norm for those engines to smoke like that on first startup, I have been in the business for 42 years and have worked on a few of them. good video.
17.5KW sounds like overkill for a house.
Not when we have a 400 amp service and three electric tankless water heaters.
That generator is going to use some serious gas. Better have 30-40 gallons on reserve.
Yessir!
II was looking for a video to help me put the generator together. This video does not show how to put it together, you skip ALL the details. You admit the the instructions are rather useless yet you match the useless instructions with a useless video. Wasted opportunity.
It wasn't meant to be a DIY instructional video.
Sorry to disappoint you...
porta power
generator juice
Electric energizer
Got get yourself a hot shower.
I use Yanmar diesel
ILL BET IT GETS 3 MIN TO THE GALLON LOL
We haven’t tested it for exact run time but a full tank gets us around 8 hours supplying the whole house with power.
Put it in your root cellar vent exhaust to outside with flex pipe. That way it is secure.
It would certainly be secure down there but would also take up too much cold storage space. The enclosure I build for it on the side of the house will lock up real tight.
Get the propane fuel conversion kit, and a 150 gallon tank. No fuel maintenance, runs for a week non-stop.
That sounds like a good idea. Might need to do that after we get the back side of the house graded and decked.
Does this model have a "recoil/Pull Start" ?
Just electric start.
