@Nana's Story Of Survival to sell I’d use polymer clay but I like to make my own and for fun out of air dry clay and I can look after them well and not make too delicate, chunky work better for air dry clay so if finer detail polymer wins
UV resin would definitely be the way to go if you plan on using resin to seal your beads. Make sure that you are using a silicone mat and silicone brushes. A wire rack and paperclips to hang the beads from will prevent them from sticking. Also, make sure to wear a mask (one that filters toxic fumes because resin is poisonous), gloves, protective eyewear, and work in a ventilated area.
I love UV resin Sarah, definitely recommend it! And yes, gloves and ventilation are a must when working with resin. Most do not give off dangerous vapours any longer though there is always the risk of developing sensitivities to the chemicals, so it is best to be as safe as you feel is necessary.
Wow Sarah, that necklace came out beautifully! It looked so much like the original that at first I thought you had unthreaded the original necklace to add some of your own beads to it, and I admit that I was a tiny bit confused for a moment. But then my brain caught up and I realised those beads were your dupe of the original necklace! Wow! Seriously wow! Your work never ceases to amaze me! I think I'll do a necklace like that for myself. Thank you for the wonderful video and the inspiration. God bless you hun.
I would have loved to have seen the bead with the coloured resin that you used. I think adding mica powder to it would have been interesting too. Love your videos they make me feel like crafting straight away as you make every step so clear, thank you!
Beautiful! Have purchased some air dry clay...and well procrastinating right now! lol I want to make some long tubular beads with maybe a watercolor effect for my macrame' projects....wish me luck! And by the way, you explain everything so well and you have such a beautiful calming voice ♥
I love that you have a very definite idea for a project, give it a whirl and see what happens, then learn from what maybe wasn't quite as you expected, then repeat with a few changes, your project sounds gorgeous, best of luck, thanks, Sarah
When I worked a lot with Polymer clay I used to give it a shine with a gloss from the brand Fimo. Later on I started sanding and buffing it up. Bud I think the Fimo works better on your clay perhaps.
Hi Sarah, thank you for another great video. When you need to varnish beads it's best to use your usual polyurethane varnish, rather than resin, because resin sticks to everything except silicone mats and molds. You can colour your resin with all sorts of mediums, including acrylic paint, mica powder, crushed chalks, resin dyes, alcohol inks, and even nail polish. Resin looks gorgeous when it's coloured and poured into bezels. You should try the bezels, they're like frames for the resin and you only need a small amount of resin to fill lots of bezels. Love from Amanda in Melbourne, Australia ❤️
Hi Amanda, crafting is so much fun, so much to play with and try different things. I have some bezels and love playing with resin. I quite like the uv resin but yes still like the polyurethane too, I did get in quite a mess with this project didn’t I 🙈😂 Thank you 😊
Thank you so much, I love those clay beads, and they look very similar to your original necklace, which is also beautiful. I got my DAS clay out today, funnily enough, to make beads at the weekend - so your tutorial came at the perfect time!!! You have such a calming voice, and I hope your calmness rubs off on me tomorrow?!!! Have a great weekend. Take care, and I hope where you live isn't hit by the crazy weather at the moment. xx
Resin - you can buy resin brushes which are silicone and much easier to paint your resin on. A silicone mat would help. Warm up your resin by putting the bottles in a bowl of warm water prior to pouring, this helps eliminate some bubbles. Sometimes bubbles are great, other times not so great! The necklace turned out beautifully!!
Hi and looks nice 😊 I would skip the resin. Would be worth trying out some crackle samples to see if works on product, which could be reason for not 🤷♀️ Perhaps just using paint on brush of choice with a med gray to spinkle dots and such on to provide texture if can't be achieved with crackle. Yes, on spraying discs/disks. I know I would too! Nice to see your son working on his project! I've made several items now. My favorite is the paint pallet and brush rest. 💗
Use a paint brush to add the resin, most are self leveling, you'll have to do a few layers, uv resin is best for this, your room looks sunny so they can cure in the sun if you don't have a uv lamp
I got in a bit of a mess this time didn’t I 🤦🏻♀️ but I’ve been practicing and playing lots since and definitely adding less, as you say with a paint brush works well, thank you, and moved over to uv for this as well otherwise waiting far too long. Thank you, sounds like you have it all under control 😊❤️

Use a silicone matte with the resins. And UV resin might be worth looking into just be sure to cure all sides. You are crafty so, I'm sure you will figure neat ways out working with resin. Hand drill for the center helps. Using some sand paper, nail file or dremol tool. A silicone qtip applicator works well coating with resin. Definitely wear gloves use with a mask or in ventilation.
@@RedRockingBird the Silicone makeup swaps are good to try and I saw Moriah Elizabeth just now stick the beads she was drying on toothpicks on a piece of Styrofoam to dry up in the air. One of those foams cone shaped you use in dried floral might be great. I know you are good at finding stuff around your house to use. I'd say either get a Silicone you can brush on sticks they sell it...something. Clear silicone caulking (no mold additive) coated on a skewer works as a drying stick for those beads.... Those eyelash Silicone applicator applicators too work. Believe they sell slicone covered reusable toothpicks.
