  • People saying this game is to hard and want an easy mode. I even saw one post using disabled people with poor motor functions as an excuse for an easy mode. So here's the Corrupted Monk done by me a quadriplegic.

Thank you for sharing your perspective! I was getting really concerned by all these writers speaking for people with disabilities, so it's important we hear from people like yourself as well. There's a huge spectrum of disability, and I think it's concerning that journalists think an easy mode "bandaid" can instantly address it. People like yourself obviously face an extra layer of difficulty than most, but..that doesn't mean you want to change the core experience that we all appreciate. Nice work.

@@tako5018 yes they would because these games are designed with difficulty modifiers inherent in the gameplay, the games are not made easier with binary settings they are made easier with shortcuts, modifiers and knowledge. Accounting for 1 or more settings that buff or nerf enemies would almost certainly change the design.
The reason people don't want "optional difficulty" is because fromsoft games already have better difficulty settings than that.

    • @tako5018
      @tako5018 5 лет назад +25

@@KrankuSama except an optional setting or feature wont affect people who dont make use it of them and so it wont impact the 'core experience', optional things tend to be like that you know, similar to self-imposed challenges or game modifications meant to make a game harder, they're optional and in a singleplayer game, they dont affect anyone but the person using(granted yes i understand theres a difference between 3rd party/self imposed difficulty increases and official ones), look at DMC5, having the easy(human) mode very much didnt take away from the 'core' experience of devil hunter and above
plus soulsbourne games very much have an optional feature that greatly affects it difficulty: summoning(specfically of actual human players), quite a bit different than just "shortcuts, modifiers and knowledge."
but really it all boils down to: it wont affect you if u like a challenging game, play on the normal/hard mode, let people play on easy or whatever
and when people call for "easier difficulties" they dont necessarily mean "god mode", difficulty is subjective ya know, even something as basic as multipliers to dmg dealt and taken could be enough, or in the case of sekiro smth like removing the revive limiter

@Zoran I'd be careful about making game completion a requirement, but otherwise I agree that the title of games journalist has come to mean very little. I'd like to see them start putting their steam, xbox, or ps profiles next to their names on their articles so people can go look at their achievements and such and see that they did actually do x or y.
The reason I warn against game completion being a requirement is because of people that play games as I do. I feel I could give a VERY fair review of Skyrim with well over 3k hours between the 360 version, Oldrim, and Newrim on PC, yet I didn't complete the main story quest line until I had over 500 hours on Oldrim and ~300 on the console version. I can also say with 100% confidence I've not 100%ed the game as I still occasionally find quests and stuff I never knew about before, I always assume they are from a mod but when I google them, sure enough, vanilla content that I'd never seen before.

@John Syzlack Had a stroke back in 2009 that left my right side messed up. It's gotten better over the years, but I still don't have full use of my right hand and have to wear a brace for my leg. Luckily I've been a lefty my whole life but it's still hard to use a mouse and keyboard for games (my preferred method, of course). Controller works out to an extent, but if I get excited or frustrated then the tremors in my right side start and even a controller doesn't help then. So I have to stop for awhile until it calms down. All in all, it's a manageable disability but still a nuisance from time to time. I've also been a happy go lucky kind of person my whole life and the stroke didn't change that at all, so that helps a lot in dealing with the occasional problems. Besides, I'm a gamer first and nothing is going to keep me away from doing what I love. :)

Easy modes hurt no one in single player titles. Wishing for things to change and taking advantage of the ability to modify our experiences to our particular palletes is par the course and has been long before the first video game.
The only caveat I think Id add is its totally okay to wish for something to change, its not okay to scream and throw tantrums to demand what amounts to a completely harmless change. People should talk to the developers but understand ultimately, something such as difficulty modes are developer discretion. The entire point of the Soulslike games is to be difficult and mercyless. Adding an easy is just gonna make it look awkward.

      Rohan Kishibe and 『Heaven's Door』
Hey Rohan! Fellow sbfp fan here, recognize you from the comments.
Just wanted to say that, while I havn't gotten to play Sekiro yet, I have beaten Dark Souls, DS3, and Bloodborne, so I think I qualify as a big enough fan of the series to give my opinion?
The Soulsbourne series has always had a big "gatekeeping" problem, ("git gud," people yelling at Woolie for playing the game wrong, etc.) and comments like this, dismissing criticisms of this series as coming solely from people who are bad at the game, really reeks of that.
I just want to say, people experience games differently. While you and I might primarily play these games for the challenge, there are others who play them for the story, or for the world, or just because they want to warch the blood fly as they bash ugly monsters. The challenge doesn't have to be there for it to be Souls.
Hell, I can't remember where, (I think it was in a ds3 stream?) but Plague once said something to this effect while describing his problems with ds3, that the community and Miyazaki had gotten too obsessed with the difficulty of the series as it's defining trait, to the detriment of the other aspects of the games.

@@gavinmagness9009 Funny enough, I've never beat any Soulsborne games. I have heard that veteral Souls players found this to be way harder but it's always attributed with the reason that they're "playing it like a Souls game" or "Souls reflexes" or something along those lines.
And the thing is, I've always envied people who makes Souls games look easy, Woolie and Pat certainly made it look as such in a lot of places, but I've never really wished for an easy mode because I can't do it as good. The thing is, this isn't really some Arcade-hard or European Extreme difficulty we're talking about. This is the set difficulty for all people playing the game.
I've Platinum'd Sekiro last night, ended on NG+4 and I've had more than a few parts where I was frustrated, especially with the final boss, I never found a proper beat with the boss' second and third phase with the spear but got lucky enough to beat him. I'm now interested in giving the other Souls game a shot when I can because the thing that alwyas put me off on it was that I never did it as good as the other people I've seen.
I know Git Gud is used more as an insult nowadays but its also an honest advice, not from an insulting standpoint but because the game wants you to do better. A lot of those "game guides" or "easy way to beat" or "No Hit Runs" aren't gods, I'm positive they've had a million tries where they ate shit before finally landing that perfect attempt.

Do you want them to do nothing while you hit them? Because that's usually what easy mode does, and by that point you'll probably just get bored of the game because the enemies pose so little threat that they become target practice than actual challenges.

It is a video game ffs. People play them to have fun in the end. There are certainly creative ways to come up with an easy mode without reducing the core enjoyment you get from the excellent game mechanics of Sekiro. For example, having more revivals or more health so it still takes skill to beat the bosses while making the game less punishing for players' every mistake. It is irrelevant to claim with enough dedication or time any type of person can play these games or how much pride and accomplishment you feel from beating the game normally that's not the point. In original Demon Souls, summoning was certainly a creative tool for players to deal with the game's difficulty in a different way and that system persisted until Dark Souls 3. I mean, how many people actually beat Ornstein & Smough by themselves in Dark Souls 1? The larger percentage no doubt got help from phantoms and there is nothing wrong with that if you got to see the ending that way. It is all about the enjoyment we get from these games in the end. So I disagree that it is entitled to demand an easy mode but at the same time Fromsoft, of course, doesn't have to oblige with any such demand. That being said, I am 99% sure a lot more people would enjoy their games that way and this is coming from someone who already enjoys all these games from Demon Soul's to DS 1-3 to Bloodborne and first played through them without summoning any help.

"Game journalists" (which they actually aren't, they're idiots/failures with a megaphone) claimed sekiro was "too hard and needs an easy mode for disabled people", which anyone with half a braincell could tell you that this is a souls style game, which is meant to test your abilities to read an enemy and how well you know the mechanics. It's the same as saying that "borderlands 2 has too many different guns and thus is too difficult." Or "persona 5 has too many mechanics and is thus unplayable." They complained that dmc 5 had no music, but everyone else who played the game loved how the game made the song more epic the better you played. The reason gamers hate "journalists" is because they cant play games and are pushing an agenda, which is annoying.

Making everything easier the second you find a challenge means you don't grow as a person and you aren't getting any better at the game. Also you are correct that games can be played how you want to play them but on the other hand when designing a game the people making them have a clear image for what game they want to make and how they want others to play said game, it just happens that the makers of the souls series wanted to make a hard game.

Nah, we live in a society where people want to have their cake and eat it too. They often cry about game elitism and gate-keeping but nothing is stopping them from actually learning the strategies behind certain bosses. Literally nothing is saying you specifically can't, to put in the time if stuck somewhere. We all have those moments, and it's nothing to feel bad about. However, just because you *wish* there was an easy mode, doesn't mean you're entitled to it EVEN if you're a consumer and acting like the customer is always right.
Granted, I get it, games are a form of release and can be accessible to a vast array of audience; but they can also be a challenge, and I feel people confuse the satisfaction of difficulty with the frustration of being ridiculed to not even caring; or worse, a sort of gate-keeping. I can get that aspect, but downright assuming that people with actual disabilities want the same easy way out is a stupid reason and undermines their entire argument and seeing people spout it means they have no actual understanding of the fact that: If a person wants to do something, it'll get done if they know it in their mind, blood, and heart that they want it done. It's amazing, but not everyone has what it takes.

Sure they have it hard, but if someone not disabled struggles with life, it means there might be a reason. Everyone has flaws. And those like Vujicic have no other choice but try his hardest. I believe 90% of people would be like him with his disabilities. Because it's all he has ever known.
This situation is more complex then public wants to believe. It's romanticized. I never judge anyone who complaines with seemingly minor stuff. Had some struggles myself and I know all the reasons.
