5:06 I used to do this in high school when I was leading the two-mile run at track meets.. check in with my legs... arms... etc., just because I'd heard Bill do the same on this record.
My dad used to time indoor track meets at Jadwin Gymansium at Princeton University and I'd often go with him. At one of the masters' meets he pulled me aside and pointed to a name in the program and asked me if I recognized it... Josh Culbreath! I think he knew Josh's name since he had run track and cross country at Princeton about the same time Josh was running at Morgan State, but I just knew his name from this bit. A funny moment!❤
That's why I preferred leadoff leg. If I crashed and burned, which happened frequently, I had 3 talented (but angry) teammates behind me who could fix my error.
Although it was just in the President’s Physical Fitness 600, I can affirm “rigor mortis”. NEVER try and even slow down, if you took off like a rocket and ran the first 60% in world record time. If you launch yourself out there on all thrusters, better you die on the track, than try and get control of yourself. Any race, if you start like it’s a sprint, you’re already all in.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this again......55 years after I heard it for the first time.😂😂😂😂😂
Same here! 😀

Bill is one of the best.
Now I have never heard my name over the pa before, and if you think that I'm going to run second, after the man called MY name, YOU must be high!
Man, this great!!! Thank youuuuu!!!
"Tailwind Turner"😂
Oh Bill, that was SO funny
😄
Tell me he was a senior when his team ran this, a 49.1 400 as anything but a senior is just awsome, not that it already isn't

Joshua Culbreath ? He made the national team at the Olympics.
Bluesdirections He's also play Tailwind Turner on the Cosby Show.
Nothing changed with the kids of today.
Because this was 1969..... it's OBVIOUS his audience was hiiiiigggghhh!
Hillarious Bill at his best....😅
