  • This is the 4th Smoky Mountain Campground that I have done a walk-thru of, and featured in a video. Please also see our walk-thru of Cades Cove Campground, Balsam Mountain Campground, and Smokemont Campground.
    Today, I am walking through the Cataloochee Campground, in the beautiful Cataloochee Valley, near Maggie Valley, NC.
    I hope you will find this video helpful, in finding the right site for your camping trip.

    Thank you for doing these walkthroughs! It always helps me in choosing a site. We ended up in site 15 last year because we booked at last minute and it wasn’t terrible. It was a short walk to the bathroom and there’s a little stream running behind it that you can listen to. I know it’s not the river but it’s a nice alternative! 😂

      Yes, there actually is a website that you can go to to get pictures of campsites. But that website doesn't really give a good overview of the campground like a walk-through video does. That's something I started doing last year, whenever we would go to a Great Smoky Mountains campground. Several people have commented that it has helped them book a campsite. And since this one was a very small campground, it didn't take long at all to do it. Smokemont, near Cherokee, took me well over an hour.
      I love the Cataloochee Campground. It's probably one of the quieter ones.

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  Год назад

      @@cumberlandquiltchic1 I agree. Some of them take walk-ins if they have free spaces, or reservations...either one. Cataloochee, is apparently reservation only. Although, I wouldn't want to risk driving in there and there not being any sites, since it's so small. But yeah, I understand what you are saying.

      Yes, we try to show everyone great places to visit, and share the Gospel in many videos, as well. I also shared the Gospel standing by Don Knott's (Barney Fife) grave, back in December. Check out our video from Westwood Village Memorial Park. We had just visited the graves of a lot of famous celebrities, and I just felt that I needed to point out that everyone will die and stand before God, no matter their wealth or status in this life. Life is short, and eternity is long.
      Cataloochee is a beautiful area, but you are correct, that it can be difficult to get to. The roads into it, are pretty rough and narrow.
      Anyway, glad you enjoy our videos, and we appreciate your watching!

    • @NCMemoryMakers

      This would have been on October 16th of last year. The colors were a bit earlier this past year, than in the previous year, and had pretty much already peaked in the valley by then. But again, they were early.
      The campground itself, actually had better color than if you drove a few miles further to the end of Cataloochee Valley.
      If you shoot for around that time for your trip, you should see some good color.

      If you go October 22nd, you will still probably see some good color in some areas. The colors came in earlier last year, due to cooler than normal temperatures. I think you'll be impressed. Some areas may have already peaked, but you may go a couple of miles and there will still be lots of color.

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  Год назад +1

      I don't know what the limit is for the length of a vehicle, but I think Cataloochee is one you would want to skip with something that big.
      In fact, we were actually going to Cataloochee the day before we filmed this video, and some guy tried to bring a tractor and trailer up that road and he jacknifed across the road. We had to turn around and go home and come back the next day.
      I'd recommend another campground with something that big.
