I was born and raised here and growing up in the 90s and early 2000s was when Colorado Springs was amazing. But I want to say that around about 2010 and beyond is when it changed. And I've said this to my friends that I actually miss when Colorado was boring and affordable and nobody really knew about us.

True. Before 2010 or 2015 ... those were the good, old, days of Colorado Springs. My son was born and raised here, too, and was growing up during that same time period as you were. Those were good times, back then, when "nobody really knew about us" being here. But, then, things started to change ... and, when The Springs got nicknamed as, "Olympic City, USA," things got even worse than they were already getting to be. There's no going back, now. Very sad, but true.

That’s how it is here in Colorado.

I think the average age of people that live here is around 30s-40s. However I feel that colorado springs is shifting more towards a city meant for people in their 20s. Mostly because of what you said. It seems like a lot of people only live here for a couple of years and then go somewhere else. A lot of my friends have moved to completely different states that I grew up with. I honestly might even move too after another 3 years or so.

I remember when Powers was a distantl side road way out of town. It's a total mess now. Bridge construction on South Academy and Circle keeps east and west traffic snarled up and constant construction up Academy. Bums all over south side like a ghetto. My compassion ended years ago when they were just out right stealing from thrift stores. Springs now is nothing like the Springs 25 to 30 years ago. It totally went to crap the past 10 years.

My husband and I just moved here 2 weeks ago. He lived here when he was a young boy because his father was stationed here. He said this place has changed so much since he was a kid. He has mixed emotions about it. For me, as someone who has never been here. I love it! We just came from a small town in Illinois. In Illinois, we were surrounded by beans and corn. And nothing to do unless you wanted to drive 5 hours away just to do something fun. Here in Colorado Springs, you have endless things to do. And you can't forget the endless views. This place has brought me so much happiness. It gives me a home feeling. I never felt that in Illinois. I'm originally from Oregon, and seeing the mountains here gives me peace. I guess living in Colorado Springs is different for everyone. I love Colorado Springs ❤️

The homeless/panhandler problem is legit here! Especially on the south side and closer to Manitou Springs. Also SO many homeless camps/tents set up along many of the greenway trails around the city. Its nuts!
The weather is crazy here. We were expecting the snow and hail, but not the wind. It is SO windy here! It is normal to have 60+ mph winds here. Yesterday was 62º, and this morning we woke up with more snow on the ground and its cold again lol crazy.

Ive been uber driver in Colorado Springs for a decade. It is so hard on a car, ive cracked rims on potholes, blown tires and suspension. The gravel breaks my windshield within a few months of replacing it. The hills and steep driveways trash transmissions and The hail is no joke, I've been able to clock out and find cover from the worst of it, but you can easily find yourself stuck in it, or it dumps so much rain the streets turn into rivers and you can easily flood out your car driving in it

You have to twist my arm to go on the east side. BTW I’ve only had to replace my windshield once in 10 years. Only replaced my roof once in ten years. Only hail damage I got was from the east side
I grew up here, left for college and lived in CA for 20 years, then CT for a year…..then moved back to the Springs 10 years ago for a better quality of life and being close to family. Weather can be extreme, but east coast was way worse in all aspects of one’s quality of life.

Are you serious? I grew up here in the Springs and I think it is ok to be an empathetic human and give hungry people food. The government needs to butt out of our personal business. They are not my parent. If I want to help someone how dare them interfere. The reason people don’t dress up here is because of the weather. Also the economy is folding in on itself so finances are tight for a majority. My complaint is that there is not enough community in this town. People do not bond with others. Again thank you government for destroying relationships with other humans during the false pandemic.

Since the evasion from other states like California and Texas that brought their gangs. we have a murder almost each day. That doesn’t include the drug and immigrant problem. All,our beautiful open spaces are now condemned with new house and multiple apartments with a 7%. Vacancy rate. There are plans to build huge buildings over 400 levels. What is going on? We don’t have the water for this population. That likes to over water and erect car washes by the dozen along with junk food restaurants like Whattaburger, In and Out Burrger, etc, etc. Don’t come here, please leave you are ruining this town. It's funny you mentioned the time frame many of us started saying it's gotten terrible here. You've witnessed every major hail storm same as I have and I'm mid 40s from the Springs. We are experiencing weather changes, we really haven't seen a real winter in years, the bomb cyclone was the most exciting weather experience, and it's gotten ridiculously hot. We didn't need AC in the 80s or 90s and we do not get real rain anymore either.
You forgot the absolute crap driving that sprouted up within the last 10 years causing insurance rates to go sky high, road rage with people having zero patience, overall nasty driving experience, people not registering vehicles, and litter tossed from people's vehicles.

Good to know that we have a better quality of life here, than in Wichita Kansas. I frequently do research about the quality of life in other cities, as opposed to Colorado Springs. But, there is nothing like hearing it from someone who has actually lived in another city, and then moved here. So, the first-hand information really is helpful ... especially on those days when I am getting really fed up with the way that Colorado Springs is now. And, I actually live in the Widefield area now, too, and I'm hoping that Widefield will not get as overcrowded as The Springs has become. But, you just never know.

While I agree that the weather here is a bit chaotic at times, its actually relatively calm compared to other states. Id rather deal with the occasional hail storms and a little bit of wind than actual tornados and hurricanes that many other states have. In all honesty to me the biggest pain in the ass here is the constant road construction and never ending potholes littered throughout the city. Im originally from California so this place is definitely a step up.

Yup. Born and raised in the Springs. Left for the military in 99, came back in 2012 and I could barely recognize the city. To put it into perspective, Nevada was the strip while I was in high school, Powers was a 2 lane road that stopped at N. Carefree. The only thing out east was the SkySox Stadium. This city used to be safe, I was able to walk from S. Carefree to Doherty High School without fear of being assaulted, kidnapped, gangs, drugs, anything bad. Not so much anymore. We used to have a very small portion of homeless here, now it's getting out of control, you can barely go anywhere without seeing them. Crime is getting crazy as well. And you are right, there are way too many transplants here, it's so rare to meet a native these days. Then there is the increasing number of liberal policies that are slowly decaying the beauty and love this city used to have. I'm going to be moving to Texas within the next decade, only reason I'm still here is because my dad and stepmom are here.

People dont like to use their turn signals here. You gotta learn to read peoples car body language. Someone will see a space big enough to walk through and squeeze their car in. Without ever using their turn signal. So if there is a space expect ppl to jump into it and no headsn up for you.

I have lived in Colorado Springs most of my life. I agree with everything. Colorado Springs is getting as bad as Denver with the the homeless. I don't like to judge, but so many steal from stores and know what to do get away with it. Our church is a sending church. We see a many military families. Logout weather is bipolar.

It can be nice, until you try to drive in rush hour, spent 1/5 of your life waiting at stop lights sitting in traffic. Jobs say they are hiring but actually really don't need you, they will rotate vacations on you after crap you out with unreasonable work. Hard worker do not get rewarded here, unless you own a business and do everything yourself. Everyone is Drunk and high, could be DUI state capitol someday if not already.

No it's not. For a lot of people they just don't have a hope of getting out of being homeless, so they don't try. That's on the government for not caring enough about its people. As someone who has lived here my whole life, and was homeless on and off for years, you don't know what you're talking about. Plenty of homeless people don't want to be homeless and try to get out of that situation. This city has shitty resources, and they don't give a shit. If it wasn't for my family having children we would've been stuck being homeless longer, but only because of the kids were we able to get into a family shelter, and get our lives back on track. Places like the Springs Rescue Mission, and the like 1 or 2 other shelters are first come first serve. So everyone else is screwed once they get filled. How about instead of trying to blame things on weed and homeless people, you redirect that attitude towards our government who would rather jail people, and let them sleep on the street, rather than get them help.

  • @iLikeTigerz101
    @iLikeTigerz101 Месяц назад

I lived in this city for almost my whole life and ever since weed became legalized, the quality of life, the warm sense on community have just took a huge nose dive. Roads here haven't been paved since the 70s especially around airport and Hancock area. They're still repaving academy blvd and it's been now over two years. In China it takes only about two weeks to destroy and rebuild 3 new skyscrapers. Homelessness is something i can relate to. Its a epidemic where trash is taller than my car and people would do the same drug related thing that people in skid row do. Speaking of which all the Calis that come here with their far left progressive policies that could be to blame for on why house prices are so out of reach to many consumers which in many cases leads to having homeless people living near creeks with trash everywhere. So to all you people with white license plates coming over here cause of you poor political decisions, do us all a favor and clean up your mess before you start thinking about transporting your mess here. Cause cleaning up will teach you first off to not to make the mess you had in the first place.

Who cares about sense of fashion....that shiz doesnt matter. Its like jeep people, or tesla people....jeeps are so uncomfortavle for daily driving....but its a colorado thing....to each their own. Ive had flash floods, hail storms and tornados. Multiple times this year.....im not leaving because of any one reason. But if lack of fashion is bugging you...go to aspen. THAT is bougie. Agreed! I first came to Colorado Springs in 2007 in the military and I came back in 2013 with my ex wife. They’ve been working on the southern to mid part of 25 since 07. It’s probably due to the weather and how often it flip flops. I feel Colorado Springs has hella potential but yes, all of these points are valid. Some people are super kind, many are douches. Being from the south there’s a certain hospitality I’m used to but, that’s not here and that’s fine, each their own however…I’m definitely in the process of selling my home and relocating. I’ll miss the crisp nights but…time to skedaddle. I think my biggest reason for choosing to leave is how much my insurance sky rocketed because of the locale. Weather and the amount of accidents you can set your watch to…not to mention the uptick in car thefts.

COLDERADO SPRINGS is warm 3 months out of a year … these are the only three months that you can go outside and try to get things done … in those three months the hail will destroy your flowers, trees, car, and or windows, roof, or the side of your house unless you’re lucky … if you think you’re going to enjoy your day, for example on a motorcycle, or go golfing, you can forget it !!! it will rain heavy downpour on you from a clear 95° sunny day almost every time, oh and or hail it’s unbearable and unpredictable … other than the three months of warm weather it is snowing or it looks like a beautiful sunny day and when you go outside It is 26° below water Freezing temperatures … and the wind is unbearable, knocking over trees, cedar fences, and blowing rocks, tree limbs, broken glass, knocked over trash into your house, windows, front yard, backyard, and your at your car at 100 miles per hour … then there is the winter snow and ice and more snow so if you park your car out in the street and think you’re going to play it safe and not drive on icy slippery roads because you don’t want to crash your car, think again someone else will and they will smash into your car parked on the side of the road … i’ve seen people drive down a hill and smash into four cars going 1 mile an hour. Then the next car comes over the hill and smashes into two more going 3 miles an hour then another truck comes over the hill and smashes into eight going 6 miles an hour. So to those people who say it’s not that bad in COLDERADO SPRINGS I’ve lived here for more than 25 years and I’m going to say IT’S THAT BAD if not, worse … oh and I have made several trips outside of this 6 to 7000 feet in altitude find a better place to live … I have found better places to live, but I noticed other people and more people and even more people than that have found those places as well … so to move away, sell your house load up the rakes, shovels and etc., etc. is a big deal and the solution is to move where a lot of other people are if you want to enjoy your life in a better climate than COLDERRADO SPRINGS !!!

While en route to the game, I thought it would be a sell out crowd due to Colorado Springs being a big military town. I was wrong. The stadium was 75% to 80% empty. I asked a relative who has lived in the Springs since the early 1980's why the stadium was so empty. He stated (His opinion) that people here move too quickly and don't seem to establish any loyalty to their sports teams. Lastly, I do miss The Sky Sox.

Thanks for your insights! A lot of what you say makes sense about the transient nature of a military town; and when one is considering a permanent move, that is a wise thing to have in mind for developing long-term relationships; especially for kids. Just a minor FYI: insulated windows are made with a vacuum. When that vacuum is compromised, air is leaking in, rather than out. An indicator that, often, occurs is moisture collects between the glass panels.

I later saw him leave the parking lot in his Mercedes. People told me he had money but he liked to see if he could get people to buy him food. You'd also see people show up at turkey/Thanksgiving meal giveaways in their Lexus sedan. Here in Iowa, I know these panhandlers get assistants and live for free, and they choose to make extra money from panhandling. I don't give money to panhandlers anymore. But that is my choice. I said things are becoming normalized. The real estate market feeding frenzy has slowed down and is more balanced. Homes are on the market longer, prices are actually coming down. Rates are higher but less cash investors are in the market competing with the average person that needs time to get a loan make a decision on a property and wait 30+ days to close on that home. So because time is a huge factor in real estate having more TIME is a GOOD thing. Rates don’t make it harder to buy homes, an overly aggressive Sellers market with Investors and low inventory makes it harder to buy homes. I’ve been in both types of market conditions and have help hundreds of people buy and sell homes so I know. One word here to remember on your journey: REFINANCE.
