  • The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC) has announced that they have certified an, until recently, unknown variety of the 1982 bronze 1c coin. The coin is the only known example of its type known to exist, to date. The coin in question is a 1982 small date variety bronze 1c coin from the Denver mint.

    I do think that it should be classified as the 8th known variety of the 1982 series, on the flip side until another similar coin is found it would be considered one of a kind thus keeping it under the classification of error coin. Once again Mr. Numisman great presentation.

    Awesome show bro, awesome coin as well. I've actually got heaps of 1982 copper coins but no small date, very hard to come by, but I did find a 1982 zinc small date. Don't really know if that counts though. Love your show brother. 🤔👍

    i had a question .!? which of the two mints of denver and philadelphia are more likely to have the 1982 copper bronze smalldates ? and which of the two have more value if found in an AU red condition the 1982Dsm.dt. or the no mint 1982Psm.dt. ????

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  6 лет назад

      Good Question. The Philadelphia mint is more abundant, but they are consequently not worth anything unlessthey are in very high gem grades. The denver coin is the scarce one, if you can find one of those, regardless of grade it's a valuable coin. But of course it has to be the copper small date as well.

      It was graded ms 60 , but not the right information concerning the coin . I had to inform them to read up on the 1982D penny, They said it was a large date. I had to explain that the two on the coin is farther from the rim than the large date 2 and the large date is much larger than the small date . the small date is slim . and also it weigh 3,11 and they said it was zinc . I don,t want to say what co it was,but someone should do their home work . any advise how to handle this,

      there seems to be resistance from dealers etc on this coin. I have a few 82's that have very odd weights 2.98 etc took em to a local dealer and he said not a big deal.. just got to be persistent and send it to the right grading company.

    Hi I have found about 12 1982 no minty and some with mint large date and one 1982 small date. Is there any value for the 1982 Large date with or without mint Lincoln penny. Thank You Manuel Rios

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  7 лет назад

      Hi Munuel - unfortunately not really, there were simply too many of them produced. The only thing is to find the copper coins which do go for slightly more but again - not that much. Unless you can get it in a upper MS grade. The No Mint mark coins just mean that they came from the Philadelphia Mint, whereas "D" would be Denver and "S" San Francisco

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  6 лет назад +1

      First step would be to verify and triple verify that you have the right variety, I can't stress this enough. And only then have it certified, and yes I would strongly recommend having it slabbed. That will ensure the best results. You could have a dealer send it in for you, or direct submit as one of the larger coin shows.

      Hi - Thank you. Just had a look at your video as well. It has to have the "D" / Denver mintmark to be an error coin in this case. If it has no mintmark - then that just means that the coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Philadelphia made both Large and Small date coins in both copper and zinc varieties.
      So what you have is a 1982 small date copper Lincoln cent from the Philadelphia mint. Sorry I didn't have better news. But keep hunting, that is exactly how this coin was discovered, hiding in a bank bag filled with pennies.

      For someone who is just getting their feet wet, so to speak, and won't be submitting a lot of coins right away. I would suggest finding a local dealer who would submit them for you, or looking at show schedules to see where you can do direct submissions. Just untill you are comfortable, or if you will be submitting more coins, then you can sign up with your preferred service. A lot of local coin clubs can organise group submissions as well, and joining a coin club/society is a great way to learn more about the hobby and meet like minded folk as well.

    I'm not sure if it's struck on a penny or fine planchet I'm new at this but I was wondering how much would my penny dime weigh

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  5 лет назад

      You said it was 1980? well in that case if it was struck on a penny planchet then it should weigh 3.1 grams and is on a dime planchet then it should weigh about 2.5 grams. Do you know if it Is a true mule or is it an overstruck coin?
      Thanx for watching

    I have eight 1982 pennies weighing 3.1 grams each; two 1982-D pennies also weighing 3.1; also I have two 1983 pennies weighing 3.1 grams. Would these be of significant value?

      If your 1983 penniew weigh 3.1 grams then yes. As for the 1982 ones - be sure to verify that you also have the small date varirety from the Denver mint.

    I believe it needs to be an error coin. And I think they all should be valued at least as much as this video auction price. Lol I love big auction prices for little one cents. No matter what their color. Just gives me hope. Take care.

    • @worldnumismaticnews

      Difficult to tell without having seen it, but it could be a broadstruck penny coin. This happens when the die collar is not on place when the coin is struck, allowing the metal to "spread"

    i was just wondering if a brass 1983 would be anything as rare as the 82.i would be very intewrested in finding out.

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  7 лет назад

      Well, yes as the 1983 pennies were all supposed to be copper clad zinc. So a 1983 dated brass(which is to say 95% copper + 5% zinc)penny would be very valuable. As stated in the video, in 2014 a '83 example of just such a coin graded by PCGS sold at auction for around $18 000
      The same would hold true for any copper pennies dated after 1982, as strictly speaking they are error coins.

    • @buzc1000
      @buzc1000 7 лет назад

      not having done this before what is the procedure for getting it verified.thanks in advance

    • @worldnumismaticnews
      @worldnumismaticnews  7 лет назад

      You'l have to have it certified by one of the top 3rd party graders. I'll advise PCGS or NGC for something like this. You can submit it yourself or have it done via a trusted dealer. Or most conveniently find a coin show where they will be accepting direct submitions, that way you can just "walk it in".
