This was amazing to build. I am a 77 year old woman who had never used Lego before we go locked down. I purchased this to give to my son when completed and did it in just over two weeks. I relied totally on the instructions as I know nothing of machinery and haven't done many technics but took it slowly making sure no pages were stuck together and it turned out very well and works as it should, .
The format of your videos is Brilliant. You answered 100% of my questions, the text is just slow enough to read, the pacing of information is lightning fast, and the demonstration accurately shows all features. This is grade A RUclips content. You deserve a sub. Thank you for this video!!

Best video of this model I have seen to date!!! Well done, thank you for taking the time to make and share this!!! What a model, its got to be Lego's best yet!!!
This is a model of mixed emotions! I'm so pleased to see multiple motors after building 42009 and 42055 which had very cleverly designed gear systems to power all the functions from a single motor but really struggled for performance because of it, 7 motors is such a step change in design, it's awesome! However there is also heartbreak, seeing initial pictures with the pneumatic hose I was so excited, I've always enjoyed building a lot and the play afterwards less, except for 8439 as a child and more recently 42053, the Pneumatics, especially with an air tank combined with the motorised pump and a hand pump (my 42053 may have had some upgrades from 8439) had such incredible performance, at full pressure 42053 made a really satisfying chomping noise and could lift more weight than it could counterbalance, compared to the motors which have always been a little lacking in power! Hopefully the 7 motors and longer actuators etc will improve performance significantly!
Well, at first I was disappointed that this is not a pneumatic set... but I always enjoyed building with gears with Lego so... this non pneumatic is ok for me. And about struggling... this is a beast. Even with 7 motors set is slooow. Gear reduction is high :) greetings from Poland :)
Been out of TECHNIC for decades, but I could easely jump in again... These day's I'm into RC-modelling, full DIY and fully fumcional. DIY linenair acuaters, look like hydraulic cylinders etc.
This type of excavator is called a "face shovel". They are meant to be at the toe of a dirt face and scrape upwards to fill the bucket. As you found, they are hopeless at scraping stuff up off the ground! Nice build and review.
This is the mother of all reviews. Fantastic, informative and entertaining. The demonstration of sub mechanisms are way better than a speedbuild ever could be. Keep it up! :-D Oh, and the escavator is kinda decent piece too. ;-)
Landed this set in a great deal, looking forward to building it this weekend. Also going to do the Johnny Five robot B model MOC as well in the future.
As much as I loved building this set and playing with it, the biggest issue I have with these large technic products is not only do you have fork over 100’s of dollars for the set, you are then required to have a device that costs 100’s of dollars as well in order to use it with an app. So if I were to buy this for my grandson, I’d have to spend almost $500 and then my son would have to either let my grandson use his expensive smartphone or tablet or buy him one. Either way, in order for someone to own or operate this, it could be close to if not more than $1,000 to do so. The fact that there isn’t a remote control that comes with this is disheartening for those who can’t afford all the bells and whistles. I still love it because I bought for myself and my grandson can enjoy it when he visits, but that’s still one of these issues I have with these sets.
Just picked one up partially assembled for $200. Definitely wish it wasn’t mostly built when I became its owner but my 42082 (rough terrain crane) should be arriving in a few days so that’ll keep me busy.
I was annoyed by the constant need for recalibration but I just got used to it and now just recalibrate the model about once a month to deal with any travel limits of the Liner actuators.
Love your videos! This is the best Lego set of all time IMO. My only complaint about it is that it is painfully slow. Why don’t they make faster/better motors for these sets? Do you know if they are coming out with a massive Liebherr crane this year?
now this is what i want for christmas :D my freind has this and we went down to the beach and we broke the bucket actuators by picking up 2 kilo grams of sand xD
Do you perhaps remember where to put the stickers. My dad build this but left placing the stickers to my mom after he was done. There are some small square stickers with 3 red lines which we can't find the place for
So here we are, 14 months later. I'm just at the start of section 3, and the bug about needing all the motors connected is STILL in the app. My biggest observation so far is that while this set has about twice the part count of the Mercedes Arocs truck, and nearly 3 times that of the blue crawler crane, both of those models were more technically challenging, and IMHO more sophisticated engineering. The gearbox in the crane is bloody brilliant, in how they route the power of a single motor to 4 different functions in 2 directions. The new powerup stuff is cool, but this model is mostly an exercise in structural reinforcement and not a master class in powertrain engineering like its predecessors.
I love this set. This is my only one set and I think I won't be buying something like this in the future. Why? I think that is enough :) pure joy and with 7 motors and two hubs posibilities (for me) are endless. But I am annoyed with this 7 motors. I am planning to buy one more motor to have round 8 (seriously) :) greetings from Poland :)
i cannot say it's a bad set but i also can't really say i desire it, just the new xl actuators and big sprockets...for sure it doesn't seem to come from the creator of the arocs which is absolute gold! i'm not even so convinced anymore to buy the so wanted 42099, just because i need new joints and planetary hubs mainly, unless a supermega sale happen...i'll stay with bricklink, buwizz, brickcontroller and good old motors! the new control+ has only cons compared to what i already have...no possibility of a 'touchable' controller, no better power and possibility to manage it, size of parts, it feels childish and hostile to mocs and...that battery hub that runs on stilos is simply embarassing.
