1:08 It took quite a long time to convince my grandma to start locking her doors. She'd always say "we don't have anything worth stealing" or "why would they want anything in this house" and I said "Sometimes people aren't motivated by money. Sometimes people just want to hurt other people" Thankfully she locks them now, but I still have to regularly make sure all her windows are locked.
@@GrimmJaw496 absolutely! Ya can’t beat an early warning system. For many years I had a chihuahua along with big powerful breeds. She heard things they didn’t. That chi could hear when my wife pulled into our half mile driveway on the farm
I'm Australian so a lot of weaponry isn't legal here. Plus I often think, if I can use it on them, a knife or whatever, they could take it off me & use it on me as i'm not strong (& then if i did use it on them even in self defence, here I'd probably be up on charges). Locked doors, motion security lights, an intimidating dog. Within reach at night, a can of extended reach wasp spray and a heavy duty security guard type flashlight. There's good non-intruder reasons for having those things on hand, if it ever arose 🤣
I live in England so much of this not available to me. However, this chap is quite sensible and doesn't glorify violence. Family safety is paramount and this chap worth listening to, great advice 😊
Excellent advice! Especially #1. We live in what use to be a safe, rural community and had never locked our doors or had any security beyond dogs. One morning at 4:30am an intruder just walked into my home. Thankfully, he brought pepper spray to a gun fight. Just had to keep him in the ground, gun pointed 46 minutes till police arrived. If I hadn’t already been awake and up and he surprised me more than he did, or had I not had a gun, this may be a different story. Another lesson learned, guns don’t do any good locked in a cabinet. This guy stood in front of my cabinet. Thankfully, my son got up and scared him enough he backed away and I was able to get to the guns. Since then they are strategically placed in arms reach ready to go throughout the house. Biggest lesson of course was this could’ve all been possibly prevented by simply locking the doors. My dogs were elderly at the time and slept through the event. I since purchased a German Shepherd and had her professionally trained. I don’t worry about much anymore 😊 Something else I’ve since purchased are security cameras and a driveway alarm. Assuming anyone enters through the gates, I have plenty of warning. Nothing feels worse than being or almost being a victim in your own home. Lock the doors!!
Writing from South Africa. Given our crime stats here, nobody in their right minds would sleep with the doors unlocked. Also, legally, in a post-defensive scenario, proof of forced entry is a definite plus factor.
Excellent video! Unlocked doors are my pet peeve. I don't care what you're armed with, if you're caught by surprise, it's pretty much over! It's the simplest of things to do, and actually prevent a needless tragedy! Thank you for bringing that up. It's one of those very important safety steps, that are taken too easily for granted!!!
Regarding locking doors, there are also videos on YT that show you how much difference it can make by just changing your strike plate on your exterior doors along with longer screws. The door can still eventually be kicked in, but the extra force and number of kicks required can make the difference between waking up enough to have time to get to a weapon and implement your plan, or not.
Don't ever open the door to whoever you don't know or doesn't expect. Right! But there's bad people creative enough to let down your guard. For example, knocking at your door acting severly injured or faking need help to play on your feelings and make you do the worst mistake of your life. So the question is, what would you do if someone knock at your door and claim that he is in bad shape or someone's following him?
Great advice to think about the neighbors "the people around if we happen to miss" with a firearm. Especially in a suburb, that definitely factors into what we use and what we load. A good big dog is handy - and it doesn't need to be the stereotypical guard dog... a big Black Lab will tear an intruder apart - not because they are ferocious, but because they love your family and will not tolerate a threat to them.
1:58 A tip I heard which buys extra time, is to replace all the screws in a door's lock/hinges, with either 3'' or 4" decking screws: Like you said, anyone can bust down a door, and decking screws won't prevent them eventually doing so, but, they *will* stay in the frame for longer than the standard screws. Someone used to thinking they can boot in a door in one go, might get a moment's hesitation when the door gives and moves from the frame, but doesn't completely yield. Maybe just a few extra seconds, but, every second counts 👍👍👍👍
I've watched that show, "I Shouldn't Be Alive" and so many of the victims featured felt sorry or guilty and let a stranger either in their car or home. I don't understand that at all. Of course, a lot of the stories were from the 1970s & 1980s, where people were more trusting. One of the stories was not that old, though. This young lady had pulled up to a gas station and a young man (teenager) approached her at the gas pumps and asked her for a ride. She noticed other women at the station were turning him down, but she relented because she didn't want him to think she was racist! Well, as you can imagine.....it didn't go well for her. He ended up attacking her, then shot her point blank in the head when she didn't follow his instructions driving. She, by the grace of God, lived, but you get my drift. Never feel guilty or obligated, and don't open your doors to anyone nor let a stranger in your vehicle.
I still don’t understand why so many say shotguns suck for home defense. 2,500 ft/lbs of energy coming at you at 1,300+ FPS with bird shot alone……. The graphic damage results in won’t mention. I also have FithOps tripwires set outside (loud bang when tripped) and of course Arlo cameras all over. All windows and doors are checked several times nightly to be locked, blinds closed, and exterior lights on. I know I may seem “over the top” in my comments but I basically share your same mentality. 👍🏽
A couple ways to reinforce the entry doors. One is to replace the strike with a security strike the standard strike is about 1 1/2 inches long the strike is 8 or more inches and more screws to hold it in place. Make the jamb a lot stronger. Two is a lock guard, they are 10 to 16 inches cover the lock and dead bolt make the door a lot stronger. For about 30 bucks you can double the strength of your door.
Thanks for the video. Beyond locked doors, most people should consider some kind of motion alarm. The alarm doesn't have to be tied to a full system. Just something that chimes when someone walks in front of the sensor is helpful. In 2018, two intruders broke into my home. While I might have left a door unlocked, that's unusual for me. I'm usually very good at keeping every door locked at all times. I suspect that one of them picked the locks and got into my enclosed front porch. They then unlocked the door at the other end of the porch, and I'm certain that I didn't leave both doors unlocked. I heard something on the porch, but I thought it was a pet just knocking something around. I even heard where one of them knocked a nail or a screw on the floor, but I thought that was mice. If I'd had a motion detector out there, I'd have had a warning of their intrusion. One of them broke into the storage room between my garage and kitchen. They were a Bonnie and Clyde team, and Bonnie was the one who went into the storage room. She broke the glass from a French door, but I didn't hear the glass break. I heard her inside my storage room moving around. If I'd had a motion detector back there that would chime when she entered, I'd have known to look for an intruder. I was lucky. When I realized they were there, I howled in both fear and anger. My howl startled them, and they ran. Another option is to get alarm sirens. Again, one doesn't have to pay for a full security system installation if one can't afford one. These sirens will wail on the touch of a panic button. The intruder won't necessarily know whether the siren indicates that a monitored alarm has been sounded. Often, that screaming alarm will make an intruder decide to flee. I'd also consider security cameras. I never got a good look at the intruders in my home. If I had cameras that had gotten pictures, they would have been of more use to the sheriff's office. I'm also a fan of motion lights outside. Often, the cheap ones with rechargeable batteries and solar cells are as good as any. I don't expect them to do everything, but if someone is approaching with bad intent, being spotlighted could be a little unnerving. I agree with you that doors need to be locked to provide that outer perimeter. I just think that perimeter is a little stronger with motion lights on approaches to the house and some kind of alarm to tell the people at home that someone is approaching or has penetrated an outer perimeter. If the intruders had just pushed through one more locked door, they would have killed me. That door didn't have a good lock, so they could have broken in if they'd just pushed. While my new measures give me time to get to a firearm, I don't move well. I'm not in good health. I generally always keep a small handgun on my person in case that happens. I love the idea of a shotgun for home defense if I have time to get a shotgun. For a day or two after the break-in, I carried a shotgun everywhere I went in the house. Eventually, that became too inconvenient. Now, I just carry a small handgun.
I have to pay close attention to what you are saying. Because to my ears you sound exactly like "The Joy of Painting" Bob Ross. A very pleasant soothing voice.
Awareness and talking to each member of the family about what to do in case of home invasion plus having an alert dog would give enough time to go for your weapon. The willingness to use your weapon is a must. Good video.

Far worse than having her stuff robbed, and her house trashed! She takes a haughty pride in being trusting, asked sarcastically if I live in a bad neighborhood. No! But why make it easy to be victimized?!
I think it's very important also realize, that you never ever use that peephole in your front door. My grandma lived in apartment building and unfortunately had alcoholic couple living next door. The man in next door owned money to someone, who came to collect his debt one night. But this debt collector mistook of apartment and he ranged my grandma's doorbell. My grandma fortunately never used that peephole in her door but always asked "who's there?". Immediately after she asked who were at her door in the middle of the night, a knife was stabbed though that door, just above that peephole. It would have killed my grandma, if she would have used that peephole to look. Fortunately my uncle was visiting my grandma with his family so he called the police.

I always have knives on me. I take showers with knives close at hand. In this world you can not let your guard down. I hate the fact people act like they are scared of me when I'm just want to protect myself and My loved ones and I cringe at the thought of having to hurt someone even if they are threatening my life. I don't like violence and I hate that movies and TV shows glorify violence and make it seem fun and cool. It's not it's a sad depressing part of life I have to accept but I can't find any of it palatable. I just hope my knives batons and anything else I use as a weapon is just a novelty collectable and tool. So far the only thing I've used my collapsible batons for is a back scratcher 🙂.
Simple thing many people can do is to replace to tiny screws in their latch plate with longer ones that go right into the studs. Most locks have tiny screws that can be broken easily. I think of this as a deeper idea of the "locked doors".
I have a 12 pound terrier who has 144 pounds of attitude. He’s layer number two. If an intruder breaches the first layer, he’ll be dancing the pissed off ankle biter two-step until the big guy with the gun shows up….
Install a good looking metal security door. They cannot be kicked open, they cannot be kicked through. Do not forget that cheap side door into you garage or that unlocked sliding patio door. Your doors may be as secure as a bank vault, but windows are easily broken, be aware.
Hey Daniel, my right shoulder has been operated on 2 times. Just bought a 20 gauge shotgun instead of a 12 gauge. A lot of conflict on this issue. Friends say I wasted my money. Winchester team all day! Best safety placement, the darn thing wants to pump itself as soon as you touch off a round. First tactical shotgun was a mall ninja'd 1300 that I'm taking back to wood furniture. Newer sxp with a dot is my current jam.
You can't kill what you cannot see. Have strong flashlight and/or pepper spray to blind the intruder. This will give you time, space, and a better ability to decide what happens next.
Just a quick reminder that emitting something like a pepper/bear spray indoors within wat are typically smaller spaces could be problematic for every occupant in the immediate area. The more you know!

The door is always locked and I have several cameras in the entrance. I haven't a gun, but I relay on machete and tactical tomahawk. I have always a knife on me. I consider buying a rifle for hunting however.
The three things that are needed are: . Gun . Phone . Flashlight Those are probably the most needed. Knives and bludgeoning weapons are a good idea too.
Design uou home so there is a CLOSING DOOR with FIRE PROOF SAFETY & DEADLOCKS SEPARATING the REST of the HOUSE from the BEDROOM AREA. Its an extra DOOR that someone wouldnhave to get through & gives you time in case of an emmergency. Also important to have a safe room. That can be one bedroom that has extra security. Also good to design a bedroom entrance in a way that wood can be lodged on the floor between the door and the wall. Noone can push that in ifnuour soors are solid..

nothing makes someone poop their pants like the sound of racking a round of a shotgun or the click of a safety being disengaged , Agree with all your points i also keep a cold steel buckle shield w/ a American Tomahawk trench club by the bed as some extra ass kicking tools
There are good home defense rounds in 9mm, 45acp, 40cal etc. that will mushroom deceasing over penetration. Buck shot is like a bunch of 9mm, what’s it’s over penetration like? You want to be able to tell the Jury later "I used what I had, originally for a TOTALLY innocent purpose, but I used what I had. You don't only need to BE innocent (of mal intent) but you need to LOOK innocent as well. Cleaning products work well for that too. Bleach + Ammonia = Chloramine (Mustard gas) Bleach + Vinegar + = Chlorine gas. Just remember to hold Your breath. It can happen to ANY one at ANY time. You are on your way home, and suddenly you car is surrounded by an angry Mob, with blood shed on their mind. Guns are GREAT, but what happens later when the Mob claims to have been 'peaceful and unarmed'? Same thing in your home. The couple who used a gun to scare off and angry mob were charged and CONVICTED
Great points! I’m a little shocked about the couple. Who knows what that mob would’ve done otherwise.
Been watching the channel since it began and just wanted to drop in to tell you, keep up the good work and you should be proud how far you've came so quickly!
I appreciate you and your support my friend will do!
All good points. Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
You as wel!
Thank you for great advice.
Thanks 411 I live very rural but I'm a believer in my riot shotgun ,I have an old Stevens very reliable . Bit heavy but a game changer .
I have found that 2 good pit bulls and locked doors are a great start. I promise people will stop and think twice. Lol
Simple thing many people can do is to replace to tiny screws in their latch plate with longer ones that go right into the studs. Most locks have tiny screws that can be broken easily. I think of this as a deeper idea of the "locked doors".
Great video. And your absolutely right..
Brass knuckles are nice. I saw someone who had a brass knuckle cell phone case .
Decided that I waited enough time and got another milspec tactical 4in spear point hunting knife as well as the 4in tanto.
Good advice to your daughter some parents don’t teach their kids not to open up the door or car door
Sound advice.
Thanks.
I have a 12 pound terrier who has 144 pounds of attitude. He’s layer number two. If an intruder breaches the first layer, he’ll be dancing the pissed off ankle biter two-step until the big guy with the gun shows up….
Around this ritzy town some homes actually have Safe Rooms. That's where they retreat to when danger presents itself.
Very relevant and practical advice

Install a good looking metal security door. They cannot be kicked open, they cannot be kicked through. Do not forget that cheap side door into you garage or that unlocked sliding patio door. Your doors may be as secure as a bank vault, but windows are easily broken, be aware.
Hey Daniel, my right shoulder has been operated on 2 times. Just bought a 20 gauge shotgun instead of a 12 gauge. A lot of conflict on this issue. Friends say I wasted my money. Your opinion on this my friend? Also, always carry a knife and locked doors a must.Guard dog and cameras always on duty.Great video! Have a great day my friend!
I wouldn't want to get hit with a 20 gauge loaded with 00 Buckshot.
Well done 411. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and your family.
Same to you!🙂
Good advice 👍
Installing remotely activated strobe lights in your living room can disorient an intruder.
Winchester team all day! Best safety placement, the darn thing wants to pump itself as soon as you touch off a round. First tactical shotgun was a mall ninja'd 1300 that I'm taking back to wood furniture. Newer sxp with a dot is my current jam.
good stuff dude
Just found ya... Subscribed!
You can't kill what you cannot see. Have strong flashlight and/or pepper spray to blind the intruder. This will give you time, space, and a better ability to decide what happens next.
Excellent. Thank you
Just a quick reminder that emitting something like a pepper/bear spray indoors within wat are typically smaller spaces could be problematic for every occupant in the immediate area. The more you know!
thank you for sharing this video! question: what type of pew pew would you recommend for a 90 lb 4'11" female? 👍
The Ruger 380 LCP 🙂👍
@@411Outdoors thank you! looking at the XSP micro field rifle and the glock 19 in 9 mm luger model but both seem so big! will check out the ruger! 👍
@@tweedlebee-eo2kq those are some great picks as well🙂👍
@@411Outdoors cousin said i need a "youth" size. it's important to find the right fit. would love a big dog but at least a little pew pew would give piece of mind. can't help my size but can do my best to protect myself. appreciate your channel so much! thank you! 👍
I would like to know where to get the film for the windows I have a lot of windows
Rule of 3 most Don't want to jump through hoops .lock doors .or alarm system .4 legged alarm system if you can ? Then its down to you .keep small cal weapons through the house knives. 22 lr 9mm but like dan said tac shotgun and remember at under 10 yrds bird shots a slug till that wad opens up NEVER OPEN DOORS FOR ANY BODY ..if you have easy breakin windows plant big rose bushes
Deadbolt lock
Have a very strong outdoor lighting system with no gaps in coverage. Intruders do not want to stand out in the light.
The door is always locked and I have several cameras in the entrance. I haven't a gun, but I relay on machete and tactical tomahawk. I have always a knife on me.
I consider buying a rifle for hunting however.
The three things that are needed are:
. Gun
. Phone
. Flashlight
Those are probably the most needed. Knives and bludgeoning weapons are a good idea too.
I’d lump the bottom two under a good family plan👍
@@411Outdoors Yeah. What kind of Knife do you have on you, if you don't mind my asking?.
Shared your video on my Facebook page. Too good not to!
Thanks for sharing bro!🙂
Good clear important info, what would you add after that? I’d add cameras and alarm system if you can afford it.
Definitely
This is a hard fact! Don’t be a soft target!
I'd like to see you review an HDX-68? a C02-powered shotgun!
I like that jacket of yours, where can I get one?
This is a Field style jacket that I bought from Old Navy years ago and I haven’t been able to find one ever since
I don't even check the mail without having a knife on me.
There was a story in our local poli ce blotter about a man who was losing change out of his ULOCKED car.
yea but shootgun in CA is a no no... try and get one
Isn't using a shotgun indoors more ear damaging that some handgun or handgun caliber carbine alternatives?
I can definitely see that being an issue. I have often feared the implications of having to fire indoors noisewise
I prefer the mck for home defense. Plan is to let come in far enough that they cant crawl out before they take the room temperature challenge.
👍👍👍
Here in Pennsylvania a man was arrested after his teenage son threatened 'violence' at his school. He made the news when police raided their house and found an.. 'arsenal'. 29 assault rifles, a FLAMETHROWER(?), M203 shells(!), thousands of 556 ammo and a anti armor weapon (somewhat ambiguous if it was real). Anyway, now.. he's naked.. 😖
Good dog, loaded Colt 45 M1911, extra clip.
I suppose one good thing about living in the UK is that we can't shoot through walls.
Ha-ha! Home defence in Canada - a jopke of the day, thanks! 😁😁😁
🤣🤣
If you live alone, lock your bedroom door at night!! Keep your car keys with you!
nothing makes someone poop their pants like the sound of racking a round of a shotgun or the click of a safety being disengaged , Agree with all your points i also keep a cold steel buckle shield w/ a American Tomahawk trench club by the bed as some extra ass kicking tools
I gotta laugh. The first tip is locked door and the second is your large shotgun
Surely a handgun is better than a long barrelled shotgun, with a home invasion there is insufficiant space to wield a long weapon?
Tactical shotguns are designed for what you are referencing. Mines a short barrel. Hand guns are fine as long as your not around a inch of people
Yet again, wise words amigo 🖕
12ga and a load of turkey #4s
Shotguns with no ammo so you can shoot if they are in your house
There are good home defense rounds in 9mm, 45acp, 40cal etc. that will mushroom deceasing over penetration. Buck shot is like a bunch of 9mm, what’s it’s over penetration like? Having 15+, and 30+ with just one extra mag is allot of stopping. Make sure you got some ear protection and your wife and kids know to put fingers in their ears and open their mouths when you fire a shotgun inside. Man, they are so loud.
@@TimRHillard “open mouth” only applies to artillery, mostly.
You’re over thinking things and clearly have limited trigger time.
Post less; practice more.
Repent from your sins. God and his blessed son Jesus love you very much!!!

Good video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video on a different topic there,You dont need cctv especially when your neighbour aunty keeps an eye on your house and you everytime 😂😂.
Have had 2 GSD before they were ultimate, after they passed away adopted 3 doggies of my colony street ,one is bit agressive to strangers other 2 are friendly ones 😅, they keep watch in front of the gate at night.
