I think a lot of people would agree with me that you are smart when trying to solve a problem. Now you can enjoy your spot rain or shine. You do realize that a lot of times when you do something for the first time. It will take you longer to do it because you are learning how to do it. Even though you know how you want it done.😊
@@myBIGtinyhouselifeif your van has any electronics in the door, like an auto door lock mechanism, then I would never let the open sliding door get rained on. Your awning should not allow rain to hit the open sliding door. Some will be splashing from the side of the van to the inside of the door. Buy a bigger tarp.
I love watching your videos even when I have little interest in the topic itself. You're so... human! One never knows at the start if your DIY project is going to be successful, and I'm sure most of us are cheering you on when they are. Well done.
Well done! I think I shall call you Ms. McGyver. You've hear of the verb "to McGyver" something? Means to use one's creativity and smarts to find unique solutions !
We always used ratchet straps instead of rope, the s hooks just go over the poles, then you can adjust the straps, whereas ropes tend to stretch. It sure looks amazing, I think you will enjoy it a lot.
It was a good idea to take your idea for a dry run before the actual outing. You can problem solve and be ready for the fun time ahead with your friends.
Excellent, idea and execution. You’re so clever and resourceful. Love the cute blue dress, although that has nothing to do with the awning. Just a separate observation/compliment entirely. 😁
That was fun. Well done. I had to laugh when you asked yourself why you had attached the rope to the van side of the tarp. And then answered yourself! 😂😂😂❤️
OMG I was so excited when I heard you say that you are from Nanaimo. I live in Victoria and just recently purchased a van and I am camping it right now, was wondering how I would be able to afford an awning and voila there was your video. Thrilled to know that there's another islander doing the van life. If you're up for it I would love to meet you for some coffee !
PS Love, Love, LOVE the Magnets 🧲 you bought. You do know that as an electromagnetic being you can facilitate healing and pain relief in your body by placing magnets upon the affected area. Perfect FIRST AID and multi-purpose equipment to have on hand !😉
Nice to see you doing things like this and sharing. I would say only one rope on each corner at 45 degree does it for sure with good anchors, and tie a loop hole in rope end so just needs to be dropped over top of pole pin. Just a thought. I'll say once again, you're a neat lady!
My husband used to do this to our van back in the 80s …. We always camped and never had an awning…we had the tarp pulled off of the van and we even had our picnic table under it… when had one off the side and one off the back so we could cook outside if it rained. Saved us many times and extended our living space so easily…. Of course over time he had invested in quality waterproof tarps he saved just for this…I don’t think he used magnets though….great idea! Great job… it’s perfect….btw 🤔 just a thought that when you camp you may need something to help you reach above the door to place the magnets up there…I would guess you won’t have you step ladders 😉
Such a clever idea, van has the fantastic way to be customized, love the way yours turned out. I am looking for a van with my boyfriend hope we find a lovely new home
You’re so good at sourcing things you need! Magnets with carabiners, who knew!! P.S. Go Bigger with the tarp! 8 x 10 might cast good shade. OMG your area is So Pretty! What I’d give for big trees!!
Always. No matter how much you plan, how good of a list you make, etc. There’s ALWAYS an extra drive back to Home Depot, Ace, Dollar Tree, Walmart, etc., yes indeed. Screws, paint, bungees, washers, twisty-ties, cord, blue tape, etc. And it’s usually something very small, but very crucial. I’ve burned a groove in the highway between here and Home Depot, due to return trips. 😁
I love your determination that awning will be so useful when you go camping awesome job,I took the fast ferry from downtown Vancouver to Nanaimo 2 weekends ago and spent a few nights at the Coast Bastion inn at the harbour what a cute town the Mexican restaurant Pennys Palapa at the marina was so good I thought of you when I was there wondering if you go to Nanaimo i always enjoy your videos, happy camping Adelina🥂
Great idea! Made me think of using the weather and rain shade I have used for hammock camping. I got it on sale at a recreational outlet store. With using magnets as you have shown, I can use that now along with the extra para cords I have. Thanks again for sharing this. Looking forward to what you come up with next-- no pressure though : )
Adelina the tarp may work just fine. I have the same setup on my truck camper. I use a nylon tarp from amazon, its big, i can always fold it in half if i want. I also use the glow in the dark paracord. Some people just have money burning in their pockets and they spend hundreds on those bat wing canopies.
Your bad ass-ery knows no bounds! I can't wait to see your adventures coming up. Great DIY. You always crack me up 😂 and that dress is super cute! Enjoy your time coming up
Love your pretty blue dress. Great job on the awning. Always love your videos. Have a great campout. Academy has bucket toilet seat covers with lid for $6.99 or Cabela's has bucket with seat for $15.99. or make your own.... Toilet - 5 gallon bucket. Dollar Store pool noodle sliced length wise and cut to fit top. Plastic bag inside bucket over the lip. To Absorb liquid - Use baby diaper, bed pad or puppy pad liner etc. Press pool noodle over top of the plastic bag and bucket lip. Instant potty.. Never hurts to tie a line from the top grommets over the van and attach to door or bumpers. Prevents from sailing away in a sudden burst of wind. Ask me how I know.
👍to your DIY shade idea with the magnets came at a good time for me. I like your summer dress too. Did you get the magnets at C.T.? Thanks Adelina and Happy Sunday to you and Sophie 😊🐈❤️

This is great! And doesn't everything take longer, the first time? Especially when you're 'winging' it? Also: If at first you don't succeed, you're about average! So, YAY!!!
Great idea. I will consider this. Does the hook on the magnet rub against the van's metal on the roof. Looks like the hook rotates and and it is longer that its base. But I may be wrong. Thx

Yep, she Adelina’d that van awning. 😁

Thank you so much!!

😊 yes, better to test when you have all your tools etc at hand.
Perfect design. Actual guylines with tensioners will work better and so much easier than braided rope. The braided rope will stretch out 😊👏
Someone suggested ratchet straps which I think is a great idea.

At the thrift shop 🤷🏻♀️😁

Yes the loop that the carabiner hooks on rotates.
Put a light cloth between magnet and van, not scratchy scratch if there's movement?
I was thinking I'd do that exact thing ☺️
Whenever i put something together it takes at least two attempts. Lol
Ain't that the truth! 🙄😁
$70 bucks is not cheap i'd have to wing it another way 😂
I was making a comparison to a store bought one.
