Thank you James! I broke my high E string on my classical guitar and I don't have a replacement during this COVID-19 time! What a perfect song to learn. Thanks for a fun and easy tutorial!! Stay safe and healthy!!!
When this song was on the radio charts it had an interesting factoid. Car listeners play "Change That Tune". As in, when a song comes on the radio, I can hit the button on the dash and Change That Tune in 2 notes, etc. Maybe it's still played. I don't know. Anyway, the radio rating services track how long the average listener listens to a song after it starts. This song held the record for the longest time the average listener kept it playing. Hands down. I can understand why. Thanks for this lesson. It was outstanding.
Thats killer ...I am 49. I was 8 when it released. And it is now that I am reflecting on it ...Last few days I cannot get enough. It takes me to a good place.
@@robertclarkguitar dude, I’m 48, and have very fond memories of this song when it was released. My best friend at the time took me sailing with his family on a 25’ sailboat on Lake Arthur in PA frequently on overnight trips. It was the height of Yacht Rock, and we were definitely blaring this through the speakers. I play yacht rock radio in my truck now, and this is probably number one in their rotation. I decided to learn it on guitar and was led here. I learned to play this song on the saxophone when I was in third grade and this song was current. It’s not much harder on guitar.
Great thanks love this song thats what we want is getting straight to it .alot of tutorials drive me crazy when the guy waffles on over analysing. This was spot on perfect 👍
This looks spot on to me, nice job. I like to arpeggiate the "piano solo" part by using the same bar as you but putting the ring finger down 2 frets ahead on the D string. Try it, it sounds lovely and helps fill out the part if you don't have any accompaniment.
Its crazy as this is a song that brings me back to my 8 year old life. When it released it was all over the airwaves. Amazing musician CC is...Great work here man! I play in E standard. Sounds ok ..I can drop to that sharp manually but I found just playing staying in A shape I can play along and sounds spot on even though I'm playing it slightly wrong. Hahah. Great work man!! Takes me back my friend.
I always found it interesting when you watch Chris play that live he did that all on a strat.. if I remember right I think he did it once on a double-neck but I can't remember
Yep...he played it entirely on the Fender Electric XII neck of that custom double-neck guitar. Incredibly, Christopher Cross was the previous owner of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Number One” strat which he sold to Ray Hennig’s Heart of Texas Music where Stevie picked it up from Charlie Wirz.
@@AllenGarberGuitarFun that’s a completely bad ass guitar! I have an Epiphone double neck which is actually quite a good guitar/s, but completely geeked out over his. I then found myself tuning the 12 string neck down to open D.
This is such a great song imo. Dream like. I have never done Open D tuning, but will look it up. Much better than all the Capo stuff I have seen in the past for this song when I looked it up a couple years ago. Sounds great. Thanks man. Great stuff!
Great man...really great... I've been a "rough" player since the beginning...very rough. Through years the guitar it's been a challenge mainly to play others' pieces....tried many times to arrange it but with awful result... Lately instead of learn others music I've started to improvise a sort of own sound and discovered different tuning on the guitar.... today I've learned the open D....and why this song has always sounded so magically... Really thanks again...💪✨🍀
@@jamesjames9275 It sounds really good. I bought a D18 a few months ago. I'm still getting used to it. It's very bassy/boomy and not a lot in the mids. Depends on what you're playing i guess. Great for some stuff not so great for other songs. I chose it over the D28 which sounded very tinny to me. One extreme to another between the 2 models. I hope my D18 opens up more over time.
This is "Open D Tuning", so this means you tune the Guitar Strings, instead of EADGBE tune them to DADF#AD. Now, when you strum your guitar with no fingers on the fretboard, the guitar sounds like a D Chord, hence the Term Open D Tuning. Now use the fingerings shown in the Video. Great Lesson!!
Thanks,James! Love your lessons you keep this 73 year old on his toes,!
Tu si explicas bien james y lo haces facil para entender y practicar,te felicito por esa paciencia que tienes maestro👌👏👏👏 saludos desde México 🇲🇽
You man are one of the finest teachers in RUclips. And you have a beautiful collection of guitars…

awsome, great lesson with a musician that does not make a show out of it and goes straight to the essential. thank you from Quebec Canada.
I'm still enjoying your old video's, but miss new ones.

Yeah, a double-neck Strat.

I'm not surprised, this song has a thin guitar sound to it so it's very obvious he's using something like Tele or Strat, definitely not a Gibson

Hey, man. Thanks so much for that. I've finally learned how to play a song I love so much. That meant a lot to me. God bless you.
Great job!!!

Bruce H Very easy and to do Open E just Capo on second. The best open tuning is Open G.

Same here
Thanks for simplifying
What exactly is the guitar (you’re mentioning open d tuning - as in open d major chord ?
Open D tuning: DADF#AD
What guitar is that? Kinda looks like mine, but mine's just a simple First Act guitar that has a broken E string on it.
That’s a Martin D41.
is there tuning needed is or is eadgbe
GREAT! Thank you and GO DUKE!
Thank you
Nice guitar is that a D45?
That's a D41. Given current values, I should have sprung for the 45 when I got this 16 years ago.
