    we saw Disco and other 32c ships firing phasers in S3 when Osyraa took over the ship and was trying to escape UFP HQ and all the 32c ships had regular albeit teal colored phaser beams

    The ultimate phaser fight was watching Reliant cut open the Enterprise torpedo bay in WoK. And of course Enterprise retaliate.

    Looks great. I remember being wowed with the Enterprise firing them. Maybe one day they'll go back and redo some effects if it becomes cheap and easy to do it with AI.

    Maybe they’ll remember hand phasers can stun so we don’t get any holding ppl at gunpoint scenes like the Time Bug ep when the reason no one fires in those is cos of fear of killing which isn’t there with phasers

    During the Battle of the binary stars I very clearly recall the crew of the Shenzhou referring to their phase energy weapons as "phase cannons" so They either had phase cannons or very early versions of starfleet phasers on Disco to start with.
    Now when Ossyra was trying to escape with Discovery from the cloaking Field the Fed hq ships and Discovery were firing the same blue phasers as this episode.

    • @jasonwalker9471
      @jasonwalker9471 4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah the Shenzhou was a *very* old, outdated ship. I had no problem with it having upgraded versions of the Enterprise phase cannons, either pulse or beam. Some of the other ships (like the Europa) should have been seen firing traditional blue TOS style phasers though.
      That said, I'm not as stuck on the concept of visual reboots as some people are. Times move on, visual reboots happen.
      What I do what is for the reboot to look better than what came before, and parts of Discovery season 1 managed that very well, while other parts looked truly dreadful. Notably bad were the ship design, the battle "cinematography", and the Klingons. I really disliked the look of the Klingons. Brutally bad design work by the makeup department and whoever was managing them. Terrible work.

    When whats-her-name took over Discovery in Season 3, it fired phasers at the other Starfleet ships in Spacedock. They were kinda pathetic but were blue and used the SNW sound effect.

  • @SimonPicard
    @SimonPicard 4 месяца назад +6

    That is not completly correct. In the final episode of season 3, when Osyra has taken over Discovery, Discovery also uses phasers to fire on the ships at Starfleet HQ.

    Actually Commander, Discovery has the first shot when they shot the Imperial Palace, is less then one second scene, but it was a phaser shot.
    Btw, why they can't make battle scenes and exterior ship hull scenes like Star Wars ? ;((

  • @ChrissonatorOFL

    I think the phaser pulses come from the whole idea that when TOS started, phaser beams weren't a thing yet. When Kirk fires "phasers" in Balance of Terror, they're pulses not beams, and using the photon torpedo SFX.

    I remember Season 1 that first Captain on the Discovery berating his bridge crew "to fire at anything!!" when they were under attack. Of course there ws a space war on at the time so you understood his frustration. I'll look at it again. That is one crazy ship. BTW there are too many phaser battles inside the ship(s), anybody with a pistol or rifle.

    The phasers reminded me of the episode of Enterprise when the Klingons were asked to describe the "Enterprise Battleship." 😅
    The phase cannons got untra dark and nonstop like layers. No enteruptions and evil looking.
    Remember? The court case where Arthur was arrested and put on trial?

    • @jasonwalker9471
      @jasonwalker9471 4 месяца назад +1

      Let me translate for everyone else who was confused by this: they're referring to the Enterprise episode "Judgment" where Archer is put on trial by the Klingons. Season 2, episode 19. It's a multiple-points-of-view episode, where different stories are shown as having actually happened. Weapons Officer Duras (having been demoted) tells a tall tale where an incredibly powerful NX-01 fires huge barrages of phase cannons at the Klingon ship.

      @@jasonwalker9471 thanks for explaining. I have trouble remembering names but that scene with the Klingons giving their point of view was hilarious.
      They turned Discovery into Battlestar Discovery. I think I remember those phasers being red though... Everyone has to see that episode. It's on Paramount which is free for anyone who has showtime now -- which is why Discovery views are up. People have Paramount Plus now.
      Anyway, do yourselves a favor and watch Enterprise. It has a lot of episodes and most of them (except the Mirror Universe episode-- Mirror, mirror) are excellently written. Scott Bacula is the best and most inspiring captain as of yet. He beats Picard and Kirk. He even beats out Pike.
