    Just imagine, the Breen could have saved themselves if they had just SHUT THE SHUTTLEBAY DOOR!
    Can you also imagine Discovery going into emergency reverse warp by flipping the nacelles 180 degrees.

      Why not? The whole premise is stupid enough already

    Sorry, put me with the “attached necelles” camp!

    Finally a potential theory for detached nacelles. Changing the warp profile. Like it!
    With the shape of the neck and the beta version nacelles, it had a bit of a Galaxy class vibe. Now with the Nacelles up between the secondary hull and the saucer it really brings that back for the front on shot.

    Detached nacelles make no sense from a scientific and logical view point. Like with most of Discovery it’s cool at first glance, but it makes less sense the more you analyze it properly.

      To be fair, if you are going to start arguing about scientific accuracy, let’s start with Star Trek ships make no sense period. They aren’t Newtonian in any way, and couldn’t exist in real life. Full stop. How??

    • @josephbryant8799
      @josephbryant8799 4 месяца назад

      Actually attached nacelles make the least sense from a real world scientific point of view. If warp drive works at all like any of the math says, then the warp field would likely exist only within the structure that generates it. If so, then superluminal drives will less resemble the warp drive from Star Trek and more like the jump gate from Babylon 5.

      And yet, no matter how much we try to explain them I just can’t figure out how they get their power, if they’re not directly connected to the warp core. It’s like an airplane with detached wings and jet engines.

    • @russellhowson9565
      @russellhowson9565 4 месяца назад

      The detached nacelles make perfect sense in universe as an advancement in tech. It’s inspired by the real world for once instead of the other way around but remember that the point of running warp plasma thru the nacelles was to generate the warp field as the plasma *energized* the coils. If we can transmit energy wirelessly then they can transmit energy wirelessly. This is actually why the fake destruction scene at the Library didn’t make sense to me. Reno made a point of mentioning how it was her dream to upgrade to polaric power systems when they were accepted by Dadmiral Vance and got the refit. What plasma were they venting?!

    They should have pointed it out. "Guys I need a thinner and shorter ship! What can we do? With detatecheble warp nacells we can do anything sir." J.

    I said right from the very beginning that the ship would look so much better, if the nacelles were "on top" of the secondary hull "wings"... kind of a la the Galaxy Class (and also shorter).
    And yes... I still really dislike detached nacelles... they still make no sense to me, at all.
    Yes, it might be the "far" future... but I don't think it will ever be thought a good idea at any time in the future, to have cars that still use wheels, and to have those wheels dethatched from the axles (or any part of the car), even if the technology exists to do it.

    • @bcluett1697
      @bcluett1697 4 месяца назад

      Cars with floaty wheels might be a good thing for wear and tear frictionless connection? I could think well of detached nacelles cause of the "burn" threat especially if they couldn't get to the bottom of the cause of it. It would have been interesting if they made a new ship that was attached now that they fixed the source of the problem and explained it's somehow better than the limitation of the detached ones.... but future is future. Maybe the new tech necessitated a better tech tree?

    • @Jack_Stafford
      @Jack_Stafford 4 месяца назад +2

      Agreed, it is a silly idea, and different just for different's sake, rather than a logical extension of existing technology.
      If detachable warp nacelles make so much sense, why not just leave them at starbase completely, and make them the most powerful biggest engines ever created if they don't have to be connected to the ship at all?
      Why have any of the ships parts connect?
      With their ridiculously quick transporting function and being able to have wireless proportion, why not connect the ship parts at?
      Actually whyever leave star base at all?
      Have everyone on the safety of a planet remotely operating this disconnected jumble of parts via holographic avatars and no one would ever have to be in danger or travel at all.
      You can OP the technology to the degree that it no longer makes sense, is really silly, and that's what they've done here there is no justification for it.

    • @josephbryant8799
      @josephbryant8799 4 месяца назад +1

      What if the mechanism used to detach the wheels from the car somehow negated their mass, rolling resistance, or drag and made the car lighter and more efficient? What if it used less power? You are right that we wouldn't just do something simply because we have the technology to, but if there are major benefits, and they outweigh the potential losses, why not do it?
      I personally really like Discovery's new design and the detached nacelles give it a lot of character. The other ships are a mixed bag, but I think this particular era really needs something to differentiate it from other eras of trek and detached nacelles are a nice simple solution. If it weren't for the detached parts, Voyager J would just be a sleeker more hi-tech version of the Intrepid rather than the very cool and unique ship it is.

  • @robertheinrich2994
    @robertheinrich2994 4 месяца назад +4

    well, that's one of those things that are so obvious once you think about it. the warp nacelles could have various profiles for different speeds.
    the only thing I see, why it could be explained that discovery doesn't show it: it has the spore drive, it doesn't need warp at all.
    but the implications are cool. and I guess, that some creators are watching the videos here or maybe even read comments. and if those ideas get back to the creators, why not? it will create a more unique style.

    I didn't notice this till the last shot of Discovery inside the trashed shuttle bay, when the nacelles were already sliding back into their normal position. I thought they had just lifted up and slightly inward for vertical clearance. Totally missed the earlier shot of them moving all the way on top just before shield impact.

    Wow @Trekyards that is cool that the with detatecheble warp nacelles ! Now it all makes sense !! lol like i said Stuart i kinda missed the Voyager folding warp nacelles and in a way the detatecheble warp nacelles are now kinda a call back to that ! :) and i use to think the hole detatecheble warp nacelles was Stupid ! but now it all makes sense ! New nacelle configurations on one ship ! now that is Genius ! also allows the ships to get into tighter spaces ! and Meany other cool things never considered before with the OG styles of nacelle configurations ! now i like the detatecheble warp nacelles ! showing the practical use ! hummm also funny how Picard and Discovery are pulling out all the best bits being there last seasons ! and yet there last seasons are the best ! and kinda wants me to see more of there ships and timelines ! 7 with the ENT - G and michael Burnham with her Disco - A ! yeah ....... kinda sucks how shows get Awesome to the end ! Well here's hoping for more Epic Trek ! :) 🖖💆‍♂

    It would be nice to know how the warp plasma goes from the anti-mater engine to the warp nacelles, it just leaves you thinking. In the 31st century are they using a different type of energy to generate the power to feed the nacelles?

    SO much more 3d and less of a pizza cutter. I'd be curious to see it move them down like a D7 lol. seeing the impulse wings sticking out past the nacelles in the one shot I really thought it fit more with the future fleet. Kinda wish they did that from the start.

    I'm fine with the detached Nacelles. What I would do is have the saucer section detached from star drive section ALSO. & have a VERY SCARY turbolift take you between the two sections with just a force field separating you from space.
    Also do an episode were the ship loses power & they get separated & have to use shuttles to retrieve them

    900 year advanced tech, they got personal transporters that can transport the person AND the transporter device itself, but they STILL have nothing but warp to travel with. No artificial wormholes, no jumpgates using the advanced transporter tech, no borg-like conduits, nope, 900 years and the only thing they have to show for it is "programmable matter" and floating warp nacelles.
