Make sure that the track which sidechains (the trigger) doesn't have any plugins that introduce delay on it. If you wanna process it, send it to another bus and put the plugins there. The Trigger track needs to be latency free, otherwise, it's latency will be added to the track it sidechains (the one with the compressor on it) and it will put that entire track out of sync by the latency amount of the plugins on the trigger track.
This video was especially requested by my friend, Sham Stalin, who makes amazing orchestral music. :D Check out his channel here: ruclips.net/user/StalinStudio
Yeay! finally :D Just finished watching, it's really helpful, never thought of using that hidden "accented toms" to duck the risers~ especially in trailer music. I knew it, Alex has a lot of secrets in his mixing :D Guys its definitely worth it, if you want to learn more in-depth, be sure to apply for his private lesson. And thank you Alex for that ^ shoutout :D it's an honor for me being promoted on your channel, you're the man!
This video was great Alex! I've mostly had the theory and composition side of things down, but I've always struggled with production and mixing. These videos have helped me to get my music to sound more and more professional and produced and they always come in handy! Thanks again! 8D
This is really good, man. I knew all this things. I used it but I always felt like it wasn't right, like the strings being triggered by the brand. But it works really good so it's actually very cool to know I wasn't doing anything bad. Thanks a lot for all your effort. You are helping us to improve our music.
As a fan of this channel, I sometimes wish that u have more edm tutorials (which is what I produce) haha :). I have learned and still learning from your videos. Thanks :)
Just curious: What is the ratio for the compressor when you're ducking the strings to make room for the breams? Also would like to know what the release time is on the compressor in that same case.
Hi Alex ! I'm french and I love your videos ;) Can you sum up all the libraries that you use and how much it has all cost please ? I love the sounds and samples you have ! Thanks 👌
Wow! I've been using sidechain compression, but only with kick+bass, snare+guitar (and combinations of these) to make more impact, never with the hits/risers. This is really subtle, yet powerful. Definitely have to try this! :D Thank you very much! One question - and you might have answered it in your previous videos, but I haven't seen them all (YET!): do you use hardware, or only plugins on your 2bus?
How do you protect your music before sending to directors or producers? And about payment do you ask half before starting composing? And when you have to deliver, how does it work about payment?
There's not a quick answer, but rather many things to keep in mind to achieve that. This video is a good place to start though: ruclips.net/video/ijYChBYs1KQ/видео.html
Hey there! Compressing: you set a threshold and everything that goes over it will be lowered down (i mean the volume) with a ratio you can set. you can set attack and release time, too which stands for when the compressors starts to kick in or release. is it slow or very fast. You use the compressor to tame wild volume peaks to be able to make a better mix. you can use it on groups too because it "glues" your drums for example together. Limiter: basically the same BUT with a much much higher ragion from 8:1 +. This is mostly used for mastering and making the whole track louder. of course it´s not just ,,pump the volume up and your track will be great" but it´s definetly a useful tool for groups/the whole track and in some cases single tracks. EQ: you can cut, lower or boost frequencies. If there is too much bass you can lower it at a specific frequency or just cut everything beneath out. Remember: don´t overdo it. never use drastic changes to the mix because you can destroy much. as a beginner you maybe wont hear any differences but the more you work with the plugins the more you will understand how important they are. For easy mixing tutorials which just go a few minutes i recommend the recordingrevolution tutorials. there are all the basic for all kind of plugins really easy explained. Greetings from germany and sry for my english
I am from the classical field, many years playing double bass with symphonic orchestras, but as a composer and producer mixing and mastering is a challenge to me.
There is not much to explain...it is basically orchestral music mixed with synthetic sounds...or sound design track mixed with some brass or strings...to put it simply, it is two or more, seemingly different sounds mixed together in one track...hope that makes sense
I am always having this problem...trying make my Trailer Hits sound crisp, fat and big true the all mix...tried with Side Chain..helps..but i am not still satisfied at 100%...:(((((

this is great, all the side chain tutorials i see are for basic EDM tracks, nice to see a video about using sidechains in other genres

Okey :) thanks for the quick answer
I'm a little lost, what is the difference between compressing, limiting and EQ (Fruity Parametric etc)? Seems like they are all related. Thanks!
