The thing about Di Stefano is he dominated every situation of the play with coolness, personality and flair. He commanded the team like Beckenbauer, built the play like Xavi, refined the play like Platini, finalized in every way with class or power or quickness like Van Basten, was opportunist like a Gerd Muller or Inzaghi and also defended as a half back. No technical feat was unknown to him and he's probably the man who better understood how football should be played. Only Pelè is above him still to this day

Football has become more about athletics. Nowadays it's about sports and competition. Winning is the most important thing so the emphasis is on Speed, power and fitness. Before the 2010s it was more than just sports. It was the beautiful game and certainly deserving of that title. I'd have the aduacity to say that football before Guardiola revolutionized football was a mix of sports and art. It was just as much about entertainment then it was about winning. And I think that's the only correct approach. Because what players in the past understood that many nowadys don't understand anymore is that they wouldn't have had a career without their fans. So entertaining them was the players way of repaying the fans for their support. Modern players barely interact with their fans anymore and entertaining them is only secondary to them. That's why I don't like the involvement of investors. They truly destroy what football is suppossed to be. Players should get their money from the support of the people watching them.

FYI, 1958 Pele was in the World Cup already and that means he had been professionally playing for a few. Di Stefano retired in 1966.

FYI, 1958 Pele was in the World Cup already and that means he had been professionally playing for a few. Di Stefano retired in 1966.
