What always amazes me when I watch his videos... He has the body of a CB, a goalkpeeper... Big, kinds looks stiff, you wouldn't assume he can do a lot with the ball... But when he gets it you see he's an artist.

      Just like Zidane.
I used to play 5 a side with a guy similar. He was tall, like 6'1 or 6'2 but very silky with a ball. You couldn't get the ball off him. He moved slowly though.

If we had stats from back then on how many times he was the 3rd last player to touch the ball before a goal he would be regarded as a much MUCH better player than he is currently. He was the focal point in one of the best teams to ever grace a football pitch. Absolutely unbelievable player.

People like to talk s*** about Cantona’s stats and say he was overrated or underperformed in Europe. But just look at his league accomplishments.
He won Ligue 1 with Marseille in 1988-89 and 1990-91, ending a 17-year barren spell (Marseille’s last title before this was in 1971-72).
He then went to Leeds and won the English First Division in 1991-92, ending an 18-year barren spell (Leeds’ most recent prior title was in 1973-74, and they haven’t won a title since).
Then, he famously moved to Manchester United and won four Premier League titles between 1992-93 and 1996-97, ending a 26-year barren spell.
The reason why nobody at the time cared about Cantona “only” scoring 165 goals or underperforming in Europe was:
    a) We didn’t have the level of media coverage, statistical analysis, social media scrutiny, and over-saturation that we do now. All that stuff was genuinely less important than Cantona playing with flair and arrogance, being a leader, and a cultural icon. - stuff that’s difficult to quantify. I didn’t know Cantona’s actual stats when I was ten and I didn’t care.
    b) He did the most important thing, which was win. He had this weird ability to transform the fortunes of clubs he joined and end long periods without league success. He won seven top-flight league titles with three different clubs (incidentally the same as CR7) over a nine-year period, which is an insanely impressive “stat”, especially considering he was banned for 9 months during that window of time.
And in each case, he did it at a club ending a long drought without league titles - he never went to a dominant club and got a fast-track to a medal; he himself was the transformative force.

He retired way too early and had another 5 years minimum in him which could have been even more premierships under his belt and united had a better squad when he left and if he would have been part of it he could have won some champions league trophies...and the season united didn't win the league while he was at united he wasn't playing much due to his ban....also if he was in the same french team Zidane was in he would have won world cups and European championships and I think he was better than Zidane.

Everyone commenting is completely missing a major factor. Cantona (and Zola, Le Tiss, bergkamp etc.) played in an era when a player could get away with flicks and tricks and if it didn't come off the manager thought, oh well next time. Nowadays - mainly due to guardiola - players are put in a straight jacket, 10yard pass left or right and nothing else permitted. Guys like grealish, foden, Fernandez, etc would all have been doing the same in cantona's day but they're not allowed now. The game isn't as fun as it was

There some videos in youtube with the TOP AGRESSIONS of Zinedine Zidane (a leyend in France) but anyone thinks nowadays about zidane as an agreesive footballer (but he really was sometimes). It has a lot to do about the media and the power in the media of the teams he played in.

If Zidane, Cantona, Henry , Thuram, play together at their prime, u can bet nobody gets the ball other than these 4

He was like the Michael Jordan of the Premier League. Everything club he touches turns to gold.
And every disrespectful fan gets the boots

When Cantona came into premier league, he was a nightmare for the defenders. The reason being they were more use to man marking, stopping runs and intercepting, they were not use to dribbling, back heels, disguised paases, lobs, skills that cantona had in his armour.
