    Although I’m not personally fond of using junkyard parts this was a good video. First one I’ve seen to specifically explain how the control arm bolts are marked to keep the alignment close to what it was. I’m getting ready to do this and have watched numerous videos lol. Thanks.

    10 years later from this video, there are now new parts available not from a dealer that are actually affordable. Good job, this is how we did it on old Rangers. Use up the older parts that had life in them. 👍

    I have to tell you that this would have been a real pain without your video. I went ahead and changed both upper control arms (were REALLY bad) and lower ball joints (figured, I was in there..why not?) The uppers were a breeze!! I had to laugh at myself afterwards bcuz it was soo easy and I was way too afraid I was going to mess it up!! Again, GREAT JOB on that video. Looking forward to your future posts!!!

    Nice vid. Factory ball joints on these Rangers are sealed and don't have grease fittings. The usually only go about 100 K.
    It looks like you installed a factory upper ball joint without a grease fitting. I highly recommend that anyone doing this get a quality aftermarket ball joint with the fitting. Lube them up at every oil change and they will outlast your truck.

    I was hoping it was some sort of camber adjustment. But you're right. I'm installing two cam bolts kits right now

  • @RobandMerrie
    @RobandMerrie 12 лет назад

    I was just kidding, I know that you really don't have to do both sides, however when we done ours we done both upper/lower, Left/right, outer tie-rods so we could get an alignment right after..
    I like seeing other people do it and see there strategy. But the upper control arm is a 2 piece on our 02' 4x4, still easy enough though.
    Have a SAFE & happy HOLIDAY season

    good video,looks like you used a used uppercontrol arm from the yellow writing on it? a new one is pretty cheap would it be better to spend the few extra bucks for a new balljoint

  • @jenniesgarage

    To remove and install just the ball joint from the control arm you would need a hydraulic press, that's why I replaced the whole assembly. Thanks!

  • @christianbluesman

    So do you leave the upper bolts for control arm kinda loose than get ball joint in than tighten up the upper control arm bolts

    I've seen Ranger front end overhaul kits that include two control arms with ball joints installed, two lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, and sway bar links for $120 Canadian!
    Even I can afford that.

    Great video!! I have another question maybe you can answer. My truck passed inspection but on the way back from the inspection, when I hit bumps, the steering wheel shakes violently once I slow down. I then drive a little further and it does it again. I have brand new tires. The ball joint is slightly loose but passible. Do you have any ideas what may cause this? Thank you.

    Aftermarket ball joint? Would this require a hydraulic press or any special tools??

  • @electropentatonic
    @electropentatonic 11 лет назад +1

    On each of the two bolts holding the upper control arm is a metal hook. Its about half inch wide or so and hooks toward the bushing over the top. Any idea what these are? I dont see an identical bolt on anyone elses rangers

    I'm thinking I have the same problem. Whenever I go over a bump it pops but if I shake the truck or bounce it then no pops occur. Sound like a ball joint issue?

      you have to replace the entire upper control arms, the bottom ball joints can be pressed (hammered) out and pressed back in.

    • @trippleslots

      Sometimes you don't have a choice but get from a junk yard
      Having said that ,I have purchased almost brand new parts from them
      You can look at mileage and see if parts may still be decent
      If you can check a part out and it is good nothing wrong with used
      I perfer new as well . Just have been there in my younger days when new was not possible
      Or a matter of time and place.I have lived in areas where a parts sore may not get a part for several days so a junk yard is the answer

    Only nerds and clowns pay full price for new parts! You can score practically new parts off cars and trucks in the yard just about any day of the week, most cars n truck parts match different years so you’re not buying old shit anyway. ANND they come with a 90 day warranty to return or trade back in, on top of that you get a core charge on the parts to bring back your broken crap and get 10-20$ back.. JUNK YARD DOGS ARE BAD TO THE BONE!!

    • @evandickson19
      @evandickson19 4 года назад

      Up here in Canada including tax it would cost upwards of $90 for a good quality control arm that will last (Moog, AC Delco). That’s from Rock Auto online. From NAPA in store you’re looking at over $100 each before tax. I do agree that you should always install new parts that are directly related to safety though. It’s just a lot more than some people think.
