    I used your video to get up to speed before attempting the job. I saw a comment about compressing the spring from the top through the shock absorber hole and it helped a lot.

      @mrvanable Месяц назад

      If you do it this way than the spring just stays in place?

    • @dkm8028

      yeah the spring just stays in place. This tip is for re-assembly.

    I enjoy complete tear downs. Doing one part or just replacing bushings is the hard part. It can take as long to do bushings as it takes to do an entire side or even front end.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  3 года назад +1

      I agree, could have replaced the bushings in both arms but then would have to buy a press and the correct tools for doing it. Then they’d sit forever lol

      I have done both as many friends and family just want to spend money on the bushings and have me do the labor free. 🤪

    On the issue with coil spring take the threaded rod with a large washer and drop it through the shock absorber hole and feed up the center of the spring. Attach it back with the hooks holding the spring in place in the frame.

    The reason you put up with this pain-in-the-butt repair is that farming it out to a shop would likely cost over $1000 just in labor.

      @whelmanlandry Месяц назад

      I just got a quote and you are correct. Plus an additional $1000 in parts which seems to be double the price if I purchased them myself.

    Nice video. Showing all the adversity. Our video and editing styles are very similar. We're going through the front end of our 2wd 07 for Ranger right now and after seeing this great video I don't think we're going to film any of it. It would just be youtube redundant lol.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  Год назад +2

      I would still film it. You may find ways to do things better here and there.

    If the control arm is in good condition you can press out the bushings and the ball joint and press new ones in... but it's a hell of a work

    Would all this make a ranger ride “smoother”? I’ve got an 08 that feels like I’m driving an early 90’s car. Super rough ride

    Any follow up after 2+ years? The previous owner of my Ranger had a front end kit installed, looks like the cheap kit you used. And after a year most of the black bushings were split wide open and all of the boots were cracked.

    I did the upper ball joints on my Dakota and not sure what the hell I did wrong but I ended up having to take it into a shop cause they failed. Like you were saying not fun working on front ends of trucks. Do you get parts through an online source? Always seems to be way cheaper than local parts stores.

      Yea these all came from Amazon. Sometimes I’ll go through rock auto and even less I’ll buy from autozone or oreilly.

      You don’t. It’s a valid question. On 98 to 2011 they used independent front suspension
