Now THIS is real journalism. Thank you, John. I am praying for you and your community members, real people who lost so much, including beloved pets and family members, not to mention homes, photos, irreplaceable items. This speaks louder than all the opinionated news, which tries to tell us how to feel. Your videos really brought it home. I even saw the kind of car I have burnt to a crisp, emblem showing so I knew it was the same kind of car I have. Really brings it all home. God bless you, John, and provide for and protect you. Lord have mercy on us all. Could happen to anyone anywhere. Fires aren’t just in the woods anymore.
Thank you for this series of photography. It is truly unimaginable -- the devastation, loss of sense of place, incredible loss of life and of those things that make our life "ours," the pain and grief brought upon you all. God be with you and yours, may he protect you from all enemies, and may he bring back the beauty and peace that was so viciously destroyed. You are showing the world what could as easily happen to anyone, anywhere. Love.
Thanks for the video. I'm more familiar with Kihei, still recognize a lot. Miss the old days of looking at property that I can't afford and was smaller and not as nice as my house in Minnesota. Best of luck to you and you family.
Thanks Man , I lived back in the early 90s , my parents lived Lahaina side 30 year. They left to retire back in Minnesota a few years back. So I know the area well, fairly well. Anywho , THANK YOU for the Josh Street View 😄 Aloha bradda
doing controlled burns on a regular occasion would have likely prevented a lot of this devastation as there would have not been as much dry grass to act as fuel for the fire.
This is what happens to power poles that aren't maintained. There is no way that 60 mph winds should have done this to those poles. I heard that some said there were 80 mph winds in West Maui but that is not true. Those 80 mph winds were at the top of Haleakala and top of Big Islands two volcanos.
After a while, it looks like there's ash falling from the sky, or it's raining. Right around 8:38, it's really noticeable 👀 Nevermind, it's gravel being thrown up by your tires 🤣🤣👍 WAIT!!! NO ITS NOT FROM YOUR TIRES!!
12:37 downed super-primary (100kV transmission) power lines still energized, sending sparks into the ground. This man should not have continued down this road.

Great documentation of a travesty. I hope you and yours are okay.
My hometown is mostly gone!

It’s so clear from this video how the fire started - power lines on the ground surrounded by scorched grass. This video needs to be seen by many.

this is sick! it looks like a warzone. i hope the people get justice!
How are the wood telephone poles not burned? Aren't they sealed with tar?
Keep yourself and these videos safe my friend, you have filmed evidence of a crime scene those who are responsible may not want to be seen.
Pretty gutsy near those down power poles. Or did you know they were already shut off? Thanks for the footages
I just had no idea the drought was that bad. That grass was a fire waiting to happen.
Wow, that's a steep climb
Keep safe.
That burned grassland is where it started?
What are the black spots in the road?

#5 describes this as a burning, not as arcing.
the pole is still on fire; does not mean wires are still energized.
Did you see any cats or dogs wandering around there?
No, but Maui Humane has found 90 pets and reunited 20 so far with owners.
Why did the dry grass not burn along some of the footage?
12:37 I think these poles are too far apart.
I have cousins who live in Wahikuli
Why the road so bad
