The Drake Fatter-pillar... I like it.
I was thinking this name too. It's perfect! 😂
Edit:See my retraction below, its not mine.
they used my Jared
Nice work
Ironclad looks versatile with out being modular
The way it opens and has the walkways and the overlooking area, it looks like the crucible, but Drake and cargo.
Drake ship has nice industrial look. One of the nicest designs I’ve seen so far.
Assault Ironclad looks really cool.
This is what I absolutely, unabashedly love about Star Citizen. I would never want a Drake Ironclad. But I still love the design of the ship. I love that SC has that kind of variety.
Nice ! Thanks for the recap. Big cargo Drake style is so cool!
Upgun on the Polaris turrets was a good move. As the years have gone by, ships kept getting beefed up guns (gunflation?) Polaris turrets much to small to the point of looking out of place for the size of the ship (even if it's supposed to be a torpedo boat).
All in all, it was a great video to end off the season.❤
this was a rough draft of what the Kraken was suppose to be till they decided to go the aircraft carrier option
I don't have a Kraken, and I don't even like Drake (other than the Herald), but I do hope that after RSI they tackle Drake next, because I really want to see the Kraken in the game.
This is a fantastic design that looks like real gameplay was taken into account. Great job.
Thank god. I just wanted a quick understanding of a new ship. Appreciate the brief ness
As always, excellent recap.
Ooh! I would LOVE, an up-gunned, up-armored, slightly-reduced-cargo-grid version of this. Why is nobody talking about how many *fighters* you could fit in that empty "hangar bay". Ironclad Assault would be a perfect "Poor Man's Mini-Idris".
Very interesting concept. I like the retractable roof access to cargo.
It's the Faterpillar.
If this isn't the cannon nickname I will riot.
great work! I really appreciate also just the no-talk images at the end, gives us a chance to actually reflect on what's in the concept art (even when listening the original ISC we are going in our minds back and forth between what they are saying and what they are showing)
I love it! Great stuff man!
The Ironclad does seem to be pretty awesome looking.
Thanks noob! I actually think this ship is pretty cool
Thanks, Noobifier!
Fun fact the model of iron clad used to be a concept model for the kraken
Another ship that will add to the massive backlog...
They're saying this is a style guide for the Kraken, so Fatterpillar production will be expedited.
When I heard Ironclad I immediately thought battleship and thought Drake design would be excellent; strange that it's a cargo carrier. It looks like a stretch Cat but width-ways instead of length, with some Kraken elements thrown on top and sides. So the question is, will it take days or decades to get to flight-ready :D
Like how they sadly named the Liberator after an iconic bomber.
@@rooster1012 When I hear the name Liberator I immediately think "Blake's 7" :D
No one will ever call it the "Ironclad" so the name they gave it doesn't make any difference aside from restricting the use of that name from future ships.
@@budthecyborg4575 Yeah but the name evokes WWI / WWII battleship bruisers (at least in me) so it feels like an opportunity lost. If CIG had revealed a ship rocking that look and which could sit alongside and look at home with the Kraken, that would've been something special for me.
Not saying the Fatterpillar meme looks bad, just that it could've been so much more awesome.
@@herbaceousboredom9584 Yeah the name Ironclad should have been a combat ship.
Looks great - hope I am still alive when its flyable
Since they reference using this as a style guide I would expect it to be flight ready sooner than later.
@@budthecyborg4575 It's still a big boy -- it's at least eight months out once they start white box.
@@Billy-bc8pk Large ship but almost entirely empty, no new gameplay loop, no new moving parts (e.g. Hull C).
In fact It's almost certain the Faterpillar will reach its final playable form before the Caterpillar does.
Thank you for another informative video.
I need one to drop the Crucible repair bay in the Ironclad cargo hold with a Nursa.
An up-gun only makes sense
Love the Jared in game character
Definitely want those glasses in game
I'm a shill for drake. So ill be adding this to my fleet for sure
Im a fan of the ole ironclad.
Ironclad concept art look like something from Alien univers^^
Drake version of the Anvil Liberator
The fatapiller reminds me of a cargo ship in our world today
The cargo hold and hatch on the top of the ship creates similarities with bulk cargo ships.
This looks like it might compete with the Anvil Liberator. Liberator being less gunned but able to transport more with vehicles and ships up top.
If I had bought a Liberator I would be pissed.
Thankfully I didn't.
Initial size comparisons show the Fatterpillar being similar overall to the Liberator, hopefully it still has big gas tanks for Pyro.
@@budthecyborg4575 I’m fine liberator owners can just CCU. I’m not sure I will go for the Ironclad yet. A larger crew requirement might kill it for me.
The command part is just an escape pod, they said you cannot just fly around in it.
I want to buy one just so we can use the phrase "Take the Fatterpillar".
Very disappointed that the main bridge isn't the pilot position. The other one should be the 'battle bridge'. I love Assymetry, but not for the pilot's chair, and that view out over the massive cargo bay is awesome.
Bring on Drake day.
Anyone else thinking that the Ironclad seems to be actually better than the Kraken?
Great concept, only problem is that is Drake :D But I see a bit bigger problem here, we ge 1 capital ship every 2 years? maybe shorter? But 2 capital concepts per year? So how long SC will be developed?
I like this new Drake ship, both versions. However, can we actually play football on it? Need confirmation of football mechanics!
Wonder how its gonna compare to the liberator.
Can you talk about the retiring of the hornet? Seeing a lot of information but don’t know what to believe.
Is the hornet mk1 the flagship of SQ42? Will it get a gold pass? Apparently CR has previously talked about retiring ships. What all has he said?
Thanks.
Kraken pushed back many more years and Cat is STILL not updated. These clowns are crooks and are becoming more bold in their sliminess as time goes on.
Make sure you get a check up from your doctor before you buy a concept. It's gonna be a while..
Wonder how long the ironclad will be stuck in concept and when it will be pushed to the backlog.
As much as love the look and idea of this ship, my symmetrical brain is stroking out, with that command module being on one side.
Seriously, my eye is drooping, and I'm starting to drool out one side.
It would have looked way cooler to me, if the module was on top in the center.
If bricks can fly in atmo, anything is possible.
Sooo… 1500 scu ?
2 tonk = 697
4 tonk = 1400 + move around space
Opinions please
Im now stuck between liberator and this
Nice :)
Mildly salty that they're concepting a ship that may end up usurping the pocket carrier role I had planned for my Liberator. Hopefully the Liberator gets some extra features to stay competitive.
Lib aint dead yet. First of all, there's nothing "pocket" about the ironclad. Second depending on what they do with height the exterior hangars of the Lib could be way more valuable since it's unlimited (ish). The ramp for the lib looks to be better then the ramp for the ironclad unless you get the assault one, but at that point you lose 1/3 of your hangar space to be able to fix ground vehicles so not a good trade if carrier is your goal. Then there's the massive elephant in the room when it comes to multicrew. CIG has been going very hamfist lately on forcing multicrew, the iron clad is going to be 6 man minimum with a few more for the assault one, as it looks now based on how things are going there's no good way you will solo this like a pocket carrier. Lib with a max crew of 2 will be WAY easier to run solo.
Plus I'm guessing this is going to cost at least 650 on concept, it's going to be way more than the lib at the end of the day.
Lib isn't dead yet
The Ironclad is a CARGO ship and looks like it would BARELY fit even a single Gladius sized ship and to do so would lose almost all cargo space. The Liberator is specifically designed to carry at least 3 ships PLUS snub ships and/or ground vehicles and a small amount of cargo
Don't hate me but I totally hope the Fatterpillar usurps the Liberator because that thing was ridiculously overpriced.
Given the Drake branding I expect the Fatterpillar to be relatively squishy.
You cannot carry the Titans on the Ironclad unless you drop them in from the top. It will be way easier to load up multiple Titans onto a Liberator.
Will the Ironclad offer manual refuelling capabilities etc for any parasite subs? I believe the Librator offers manual refuelling for small and XS ships.
I mean if it had a med bay? I'd say shut up, take my money, and get rid of my C2. The superior cargo capacity even on the assault version, coupled with it's apparent greater flexibility? I'd be all over that.
I want to know if I could fit my corsair in it and use it as a mini kraken
How many ships of which type will fit into the cargo area - which conveniently open up on top?
Yeah grabbing this one. I hate drake but this is fire.
I will say that its a little sad that despite it still having the drake "duel use" design that it feels like the cargo space is intentionally spaced as to make using it as pocket carrier prohibitive. Its a shame because it'd be a decent stopgap for this roll until the liberator comes out. I presume this would come first based on the fact that it sounds like they have a decent asset library for drake ships and are wanting to flesh that out more in preparation for the Kraken (won't be seeing that in epochs)
Its a real shame considering how badly many of us want carriers and the gameplay already exists to partially support this. It really sucks moving from planet to planet with a group knowing that arrival times of the various ships is off, that some may need to make separate stops to refuel and really it creates a ton of logistical annoyances even with a small number of ships.
I'm not a Lib or Ironclad owner but dreams of carriers visit me each and every night beckoning to me like the one that got away :(
Had no idea about this concept, but hearing the name, I was hoping it would be a heavy fighter to compete against the vanguard. Another cargo ship though, yay.
Also a "militarized" DRAKE ship does not make much sense. DRAKE is already gun heavy in all their ships, except the Vulture and Cutter. Putting Tonks in the cargo hold instead of crates is what they consider "militarized"?
It was literally announced hours ago. There is still hope they will make a fighter
so, "super caterpillar", or "caterpiller'ier caterpillar" :)
Flight-ready ca. 2197 AD.
soo.... Caterpillar cargo lifts deployable WHEN CIG??
Whenever someone is tasked to the modules -- but modules are a lot easier to do than a full ship.
Ship concept is great, name doesn't make sense.
If they kept in the naming theme of the caterpillar, something bigger could have been called maybe the snake, or even Anaconda? Ironclad feels like a name for Crusader.
I wonder how much cargo? 1200-1400 sco?
Anything over 1K SCU would be amazing.
ILW
I will still only refer to it as a Fatterpiler
Is it just me, or would this concept have worked better as an Argo product?
It does have a bunch of Drake features.
Hercules VS Iron Clad?
Cool I guess. My cat still doesn't work right, and it's already in the game. Why would I want this? Thanks Noob!
Coming to a universe near you in 2026 😂
what do you think is the price ? for the Ironclad
450-550?
Who needs to be able to breath in game when you can have another ship instead?!
so the ironclad is a better liberator.
Probably but depending of fuel consumption
mummm was hoping for a bigger cutlass ... o well
You mean the Corsair?
@@The_Draque smaller then corsair
i love you
Thank you
I want one but it will be very expensive
>another concept
I want it
More time spent on new ships while ignoring the 200 + ships that need reworks for game play. Making new ships, that will clear the backlog.
Lol they won't be making this thing any time soon
@@frogger2011ify what’s even the point then, not to mention we are still waiting for the cargo system in game, and that whole loop to be made working / good.
Seriously, just stick with your base game package and ship and buy everything else in-game. Everything else can be borrowed from someone in any given session. People loan out ships all the time.
And I'm hype! Add to cart baby!
How did you get that number lmao
How large do you expect it to be? also is it better than a C2?
"Better than a C2" is now not final to answer since the concept is not out yet. But this can carry double the Tonks or around double the cargo, so if only the SCU number counts, then yes it has a higher number than the C2. If your buying choice also accounts for 'in orbit flight' or armor/defence this possibly comes in to second, hell maybe this ship is expensive with fuel and maintenance so the 'cost per shipped scu' can be more than the C2, who knows? We shall see in some time till this is released.
Edit: it also needs 6 crew instead of the 2 for the C2.
Depends on how you define better, it will carry more and have more hit points and turrets but will surely be a big slow target and cost a hell of a lot more.
I was just wondering if it made sense to buy, I love my c2 but the ironclad looks like my dream cargo/carrier ship, even surpassing the liberator.
@@misterluley4010 Same, but i really hope they don't do it like this. I hope that the Ironclad gets some real drawbacks. for the assault version it is an Obscelecense machine for: Crucible, C2, A2, Liberator. so it must have some drawbacks.
ILW* not IAE. CIG needs to name events better.
Sooo the ironclad is basically the anvil crucible without the repair stuff... How about they actually finish that before making something new...
Just for fun, look up the anvil crucible whitebox video on RUclips from way back when and compare it to this video... There is so much either straight copied or just slightly altered from that...
We do need new ships like nothing else.
Tell us about it then don't sell it....OK
It will be sold on Drake day?
Lmao Polaris this year highly unlikely
Correct, it’s basically the outside only.
Remember "in theory" a lot of the manpower for Squadron 42 is now shifting to the PU. If the Idris team are now full swing on the Polaris they could make quick work of it.
