Great video! I just ordered a rebuild Alt for my ‘71 C3, but (unlike the photo on the website, which was vintage), the one that came is the newer style. I may look for an older casing and do this replacement. Can you tell me: Which of the two connectors (in the clip) is the “activation” wire? (1 or 2?)
Yea it came out great, I’m glad I did it this way. As far as the plug goes I’m not sure off the top of my head. I’ll bet a quick google search and you’ll find a diagram with the pinout. Keep in mind this video was recorded pre Covid. May also have been a remanufactured unit, don’t remember for sure. But a reman will have mostly new internal components minus the case and armature.
I just got an alternator for my daughters 05 buick rendesvouse and the case is just a little different. Do you suppose all the parts would fit the old case?
@@ratfarm767 I didnt try it. The plug was at least 30 degrees different. Ill give the 50 dollar one back to my alternator guy who could have got the right one but was out of town. 278.61 with the 40 dollar kore charge at Oreilly.
It’s an outdated platform for sure. The only thing that really bugs me about rock auto is the game you have to play with the shipping locations of items, ie, location A, B,C etc. and then if you add additional items the locations all start changing around so they can charge extra for shipping. Very frustrating.
hardest is getting those long torx screws(4) out which hold the box together. I'm about to round the heads off. whats the secret to getting a grip on them?

Is high temp wheel bearing grease sufficient for that open bearing?
Should be, most of the force is on the front bearing.
@@ratfarm767 ... two bearing coming tomorrow, the rear went dry. whatever grease was used way back when sure lasted a long time!

Possibly, the internals are mostly the same. Only one way to find out 😊
