    It sounds great. Nice usable drive, just what I'm looking for.
    Have you ever tried the Two Note Le Bass? It's incredible for adding tube warmth and a light drive.

    This has been one of my main bass drives for a few years. I also highly recommend checking out the Xotic BB Bass Preamp pedal.

    I owned this pedal for about 10 minutes before deciding to return it. I was impressed by the demo videos I had seen and thought it would be perfect for my needs (I aim for a mid-focused, aggressive tone similar to David W Sims of the Jesus Lizard, Rob Wright from NoMeansNo, etc), but in practise when paired with the compressor and Sansamp BDDI V2 at the end of my pedalboard chain the Lucy Dreamer sounded like a muffled, undefined mess no matter how I set the controls, including playing around with the internal pots. The compressor is set mildly and essentially acts as a limiter to catch any peaks while the Sansamp is setup to emulate an SVT and provides me with my base tone. I play a Ric 4003 and a passive P Bass.
    I tried my best to get the LD to play ball but I couldn't get anywhere near close to a cohesive overdriven tone and was always left with a flubby, wooly and borderline farty sound, so I can only assume the LD doesn't play well with compressors and/or preamp pedals following it. I was left feeling extremely disappointed with this pedal and ended up utilising an Earthquaker Devices Plumes in conjunction with a Boss LS-2 instead, which in my opinion gives an infinitely superior overdrive tone ranging from light breakup to grinding gain, but crucially it gives me clarity across the board no matter what settings I use. The Plumes has an internal charge pump that bumps up the voltage to 18v giving the pedal massive headroom, which I believe is the reason it works so well in the context of bass guitar.
    The LD may work perfectly in other's setups and sounds good in some of the videos I've seen, but unfortunately for me it didn't work out at all. I also tried their Red Muck Bass too and I found that to be equally useless, although to be fair it's based on a muff circuit and the wooly sound is to be expected. It's a shame as I like their Rattler pedal a lot on my guitar board, but I've yet to be impressed by JAM's bass pedal offerings.

      Question: is a compressor really necessary if you're going to be distorting the signal anyway? I mean, distortion already compresses.
      Based on your review, I may get the Plumes instead though. You don't find it cuts out too much low end? It's not specifically designed for bass, is it? I wish it had a blend knob.

      @ConceptCarMusic 2 года назад +1

      @@rome8180 I have other gain stages on my board and the compressor helps keep everything even before hitting the Sansamp.
      Yeah, The Plumes does cut the low end, especially on mode 3. That’s why I use the Boss LS-2 to blend in some of the clean signal. It’s an extra expense, but definitely worth it IMO. Hope you like it if you choose to give The Plumes a go!

    Nice video Patrick, Jam is great sounding & looking pedal company but really expensive for my budget. I'm from Greece and even the used market is not that low and not even one of their bass line is listed yet.
    But the tube screamer style pedals are worth trying for bass guitar. I own a Rodenberg GAS 808b pedal (tube screamer style) and it is great on bass! I bet that Lucydreamer will be great especially with the blend knob.
    As for recommendations:
    I recently bought an Electro-Harmonix - Hot Tubes and I think you should demo it! For the money (new or used) it is a great and really versatile pedal. I prefer it than the bass soul food! It can be really subtle and warm, but it can also sound almost like muff! It is a litle bit "dark" sounding but in the mix I think it will be nice.
    Greetings from Greece

    Hey Patric! Excellent content! I’ve been playing for a while but I have basically 0 knowledge of bass gear aside from the actual bass, picks, cables, and combo amps. You probably want to keep your videos short and sweet but I would really like it if you could explain some things as if you were showing it to a complete noob.
    Again excellent content and I’m still drooling over all those basses!

    If you like that you need a rattler. Think the sounds of blue sky noise from Circa survive in a box. Amazing stuff.
