Sorry but you're off by a couple of decades. I'll be 52 in June & this song came out when I was really young. It was the 1st record that I ever bought. I was no older than 8 or 9, so it was the late 70s
My father always said to me, "You don't have to fight to be a man, but sometimes you have to fight when your a man." Now I know where he got that from.
It's the quiet ones you've gotta watch out for once you push them too far! 😉❤ I have loved this song since I first heard it back in the day. RIP Kenny! You'll NEVER be forgotten. 🎶❤
I've always been a quiet one. When we were kids and heard this song, my brothers asked me if push came to shove if I'd ever kill someone. I finally answered them and said no, I'd just make them wish they were dead (as murder goes against my beliefs and I wouldn't do it deliberately). They never bugged me again on the question. I still feel this way, but I do love this song. Tommy gave the only good response he could in that moment. Don't mess with the quiet ones, indeed! 😉
Kenny Rogers' Roasters!! Good, traditional American food - always delicious and affordable. Loved eating there and I was so sad to see it go in my area.
Loved your reaction, nice to hear local accent. Anything Kenny but have recently gone down the Dan Vasc rabbit hole. I'm 70 but the power and arrangements and VOICE are incredible!! Amazing Grace, American Trilogy, I'll Make a Man Out of You.... thank you. Nana Karen. UK x
A MAN will always stand up for the innocent and those who are weaker than he is while protecting and caring for them. A BOY will fight at the drop of the hat if they feel disrespected or some other such nonsense. This is why we need more active father's in the lives of their children and particularly boys so they will learn the difference when the tidal wave of hormones wash over them and they don't know how to handle it. It begins with rough and tumble play after a year or so and learning how to use and push to the limits of their bodies without harming others. Mothers, sorry to say, are not good at that because their innate urge is one of protection from all that might harm their little ones.
Country music is known for storytelling and Kenny Rogers was one of the greatest. The double message in the song is well done. No, needless fighting solves nothing, but there are lines in the sand that once someone crosses them, you have to make sure they get what they have coming, and Tommy did.
If you like country music storytelling, listen to Marty Robbins' trilogy: El Paso, Feleena and El Paso City - in that order. Can also recommend Gordon Lightfoot's Ten Degrees and Getting Colder, Bitter Green and Go Go Round.
This is also a movie starring Kenny Rodgers as the small town preacher…..In all actuality the Gatlin boys were the cowards…Tommy is a man in control of his emotions….Who knows when to take care of business!! A man strong in his Masculine Energy…A Gentleman, A protector..👏🏼👏🏼
The song and Kenny were so amazing they made a movie out of it by the same name starring Kenny Rodgers. Country music tells amazing stories. Martina McBride Independence day or Concrete Angel are amazing
Great reaction. A couple other songs by Kenny you might want to consider are : The Greatest , The Gambler and his duet with Dolly Parton - Islands in the stream.
Best song of his in my opinion, and I love them all. I look forward to hearing more reactions. Johnny Cash hurt. Is the 9 inch nail cover for Johnny Cash makes it all his own and even Nine Inch Nails agrees with it it is Johnny song now
I actually love 'Hurt' By Johnny cash, although I have-not listened to in a couple of years. I'll definitely react to this. Thank you for your comment and your support.

It's nice to see someone who does these reviews and doesn't act like a fool.
Aw, I adore this song! Still makes me cry every time!
The smile that came across your face when Tommy "stopped to lock the door" was priceless!
My father always said to me, "You don't have to fight to be a man, but sometimes you have to fight when your a man." Now I know where he got that from.
He actually told an entire movie with this song! Ironically, there is the the movie, "Coward Of The County" starring Kenny Rogers himself.
Yeah, this song was so popular, they made a movie based on it. Same with The Gambler. Kenny can tell a story!
Thank you. I love this song. Your reaction was perfect ❤
You can never go wrong with Kenny Rogers. Great story teller. ✌❤🎶
Watching your face was everything as the story unfolded ❤
Your reactions are genuine and your face shows it. Thanks again!

Country music always tells a story. You are spot on!
Another great story song with a good message is by the late, great Chris LeDoux titled "This Cowboy's Hat ".
Loved your reaction, nice to hear local accent. Anything Kenny but have recently gone down the Dan Vasc rabbit hole. I'm 70 but the power and arrangements and VOICE are incredible!! Amazing Grace, American Trilogy, I'll Make a Man Out of You.... thank you. Nana Karen. UK x

Love song and reaction❤....would like to hear Johnny cash the man in black.😊
The man makes a pretty strong bird. It’s the wood that makes it good.
I love that song along with the song called The Gambler. Here's another country song called Harper Valley PTA by Jeannie C Riley.
Marty Robbins is also a great story teller
Tom T. Hall is another great..
Loved Kenny Rogers, this was the first record I brought with my own money in my early teens, in 50's now n still love his music. RIP Kenny 😢
He has such a huge catalog of incredible songs. Can't go wrong listening to Kenny. Eager to see this man react to The Gambler next. :)
