Hurd Burger in Jacksboro Tx is the best & world known. American Airlines & Halliburton have sent them to every corner of the world. I stop & get a few everytime I pass through!
I noticed that when these restaurants are profiled by a TCR, Texas Daytripper, The Texas Bucket List or even publications, like Texas Monthly, some tend not to survive the positive reviews. I suppose that many simply could not handle the onslaught new patrons, after the reviews got out.
When I first moved to Texas in the late '70's, Bob Phillips' "4Country Reporter (now Texas Country Reporter) " was one of the first Texas things with which I fell in love. I am GLAD to see that Bob is still cruisin' them Farm Roads, and making Texas LOOK GREAT! Love ya, Bob, thanks for all the GREAT memories!
That sucks it's closed was gonna say you know it's good food coming when you hear an old school cash register. Also you know you are a narrator of food vids when your throat sounds like it's packed with meat. Great vid!
Depends on how the burger is cooked. If it's fried on a grill than cheese for sure. If it's flame grilled? I'd rather not have the cheese so I can truly enjoy flame grilled meat with nothing to take away from that flavor. But grilled like on there definitely with cheese.
Decades ago there was a burger joint in Sherman, Texas near the square that served up delicious greasy burgers. At closing time they would leave a thick layer of grease on the grill. Over the weekend that would solidify into a thick white layer of beef fat. Burp!
.....remember the episode of The Beverly Hillbillies when Jethro wanted to buy a burger place? When they walked in to look at it, Jethro said, "Look here Uncle Jed, it's ready to go. There is already an inch of grease on the griddle"!
@Raymond Carver Yeah, I used to go to something called Bill's BBQ in Fort Worth or White Settlement, and it is a hole-in-the-wall. But, damned, it was good. They had the best chopped BBQ sandwiches and also had baked beans with onions. Man, it was like crack. Don't know if they're still around, but I think they're gone. I miss that place so much. The father died, and I think the children weren't as good as him at it. And, the kids expanded, but the quality went down. Nothing like before. Haven't went in 10-15 years.
