Since upgrading to iOS 14, have you noticed a orange dot at the top right hand side of your iPhone? You are not alone-this is actually a new feature and don’t worry, it is intentional.
So what is it? Apple’s new iOS 14 operating system update comes with a huge focus on security and privacy. As part of its new iPhone update, Apple has added an indicator light that tells you when an app is using your microphone and camera, and this comes in the form of an orange or green dot.
It sounds scary but seeing the dot at the top of the screen is not a reason to be alarmed in all cases. Some apps need to use your microphone (orange dot) or camera (green dot) in order to function-your phone for example, or a video conferencing app such as Zoom, WhatsApp, or Signal.

Dots are for your privacy information.
Orange Dot means the microphone is being used. Green Dot is when the camera is being used.
They don’t let you turn it off so that a hacker or app cant turn it off and record you with out you knowing. This is awesome for privacy.

I just bumped into this video. Thank you very much for the info! I had to check it out, especially since I purchased a new iPhone a couple of weeks ago. I might actually get used to those extra “lights” and will try to remember to notice them, in particular, if they show up when I’m not using a particular app for those sorts of reasons. (Messenger, Camera, etc.) I think it’s good that they’re there so that, I’ll know if “someone” turned my microphone and / or camera on at an odd time. 😉

An aside: I think I like the choice of orange and green. The colors are very Irish 🇮🇪 - St. Patrick’s Day, and all, green for the Roman Catholics, and orange for the Protestants. 🤓

That’s what I’m on here to try and see if I can turn on. Is there no inductor light to let you know you have a text?
What kind of iPhone are you using? It appears that you are displaying the time in the notch. Also, how do you get the battery percentage to display and why are the wireless and cellular data indicators in the upper left corner. My iphone 12 pro just has a battery bar status, wireless and cellular data in the right hand corner and the time in the left corner.

Are these dots visible only on i-phones? cause even on my samsung android phone green and orange dots are visible while using camera and microphone or any other camera/microphone consisting app.

It means your mic is in use an if you pull down from the top it will even tell you that your mic has recently been used an the green dot is for the camera
If you think this is the only time anyone is listening to you, you don’t know how your phone *really* works. They gave us this icon to make us feel more secure in knowing our mic isn’t when we don’t want it to be to give us a false sense of security that we’re not being spied on all the time.

I'm probably not the only one who has said this but if you turn off the dots that you have no way to know if something isn't using your camera or microphone. It would've been nice if they told us what it was for but who needs a change log with your update. the design seems fairly intuitive and yet I was questioning what it was every time I've seen it.
It's a notification putting you in control of what is using your camera and microphone.

Very funny thing, I noticed the orange dot the other day. I only have 4 apps that use it, why any of these would need my microphone on beats me. Thanks for the advice now know what’s it is all about.

Thanks for the information I have had an app using the mic although I do not require it as it links to a cloud in China. I was only able to identify after seeing this.

Not being able to disable the dots is not bad news, it’s necessary. There would be no point having the alerts if you (or the app using the mic or camera) could turn off the notification.

I haven’t updated my phone beyond 13.3.1. It’s not that they aren’t persistent in giving me reminders to do so! My response to the constant reminders-nah, no thanks! I’m good!
I didn’t update and I have those dots coming up even if my camera is not on
I can’t imagine why anyone would want to turn off those lights. They are smaller than a pin head for crying out loud! It’s not like they are taking up half the screen or obscuring visibility.
They say to turn it off if someone stalking u and hearing u disable the camera and the microphone on the iPhone if u want to use the camera and microphone u can just turn it off when ur done fast
Due to my tv, your video is cropped off the top and bottom. So I don’t see your showing of the orange and green dots. You may want to size down your graphics in the future for better visibility.

I found out the other day on IPhones that if your being investigated for a crime you can type in *#21# like your dialing a phone number and a bunch of items will pop up and say Active or In-Active. If any say Active get rid of your phone, get a new one and change your number.

Ues but it wont stop them! I can turn off my phone every time hackers are spying on me but now I can't get into my bank accts. The banker says don't use the phone when the dot is on bc the hackers are stealing your info.

@@dawnypuck16 mine is green as well but then slightly changes to orange then disappears which is why i’m confused
