Damn, this 67 year old blues guy is loving everything you are doing and learning so much!! Keep it up. Feel like I found a bird nest on the ground! We all appreciate your way of teaching and wonderful playing.
Hey Guthrie; have you ever entertained producing an exclusive, and comprehensive, blues instructional video a la ArtistWorks? Your blues playing and knowledge are pretty darn impressive and I have no doubt that you would have a legion of fans that would jump all over that!
I’m by no means at this level but the more I watch and listen to you explain chord shapes and patterns I get it more and more ! Thanks 🙏 a bunch Guthrie !!!
Brother i really appreciate all your work and super happy for your new found freedom in sobriety people think without alcohol you cant have fun that’s a big lie we tell ourselves 🙏🏼
Almost 50 years of playing and teaching guitar, and I have learned so much from watching your videos in the past couple of days it's RIDICULOUS! Mostly things I have forgotten, but never the less, thank you! I'm a devout believer in the CAGED system; So all the things you show make complete sense...and very well presented. WOW!
Knock or slay you? You gotta be kidding , man. What you call noodling here is just sublime playing in my humble view. You'rte one of my favorite contemporary guitar players, Guthrie. You are so at home and authentic with whatever you play: (why else play it, right?). Just beyond words which is where true music should be. Always happy and inspired when I listen to you. Anyone who hates on this, is to be pitied. Go on with your bad self, GT.
Awesome! I was visiting Nashville over the Memorial Day weekend to tour the Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry and had a fabulous time. Thank you ❤️
That sounds like what the jazz guys call an 'enclosure', A way of getting to a note a halftone (or whole tone) away, by first going more than a halftone away, then moving back to achieve the halftone move. It can be used ascending and descending, often 3-4 halftone notes, but can be whole tones. You tend to just think about the desired start and finish notes, and add the extra notes to suit the timing, and disguise and embellish the simpler intention, which is the direct move between the two notes which start and finish.
Thank you Guthrie, you are an inspiration to so many of us. You make it seem possible for an older guy like me to still become the player I want to be. God bless.
I hit subscribe as soon as you gave a heartfelt shoutout to the families who lost loved ones...class act my friend..respect. That intro reminded me of the Meters a bit...
Man I love your stuff and I’ve learnt so much from your playing. It inspires and challenges me to play and learn everyday. Forever grateful. Never stop doing what you’re doing ❤
Mystikal Guthrie Trapp the way you teach even which. Pegios on the CAGED system knowingly all the chords shapes has to be one of the best teachers teaching lessons ever I'm playing my girl over the whole fretboard even in open chords thanks to you mr. Guthrie and Marty Schwartz
Guthrie completely shreds the intro and then comes in and says, “just noodling around having some fun…” Me, “🤯🤯🤯🤯” You are such an inspiration, Guthrie! I have a lesson scheduled with you soon. Really looking forward to it.
I think you learned the theory afterwards. Gifted soab, born with it learning through playing like breathing and talking. Thanks for your effort spreading your story! Much love from Europe!
Guthrie I am Learning the 3rd position working on the 4th in Caged just getting to fingers to play clean. HAPPY ! My stroke is in the rear view mirror now with confidence abound. Thank you So very much !
Hey Guthrie it was a pleasure meeting you at the Underdog last night! You absolutely killed it! Dave and Jordan were amazing with you and you guys slayed! I will be booking a lesson or two with you in the fall! Have a blessed day!
Man you are a smooth player. An absolute pleasure to watch and listen to you play. Your instructional conversation is practical and just exceptional Thank-you!
So Guthrie, when you look at the fretboard, are you visualizing the cage positions and/or the chord tones (root, 3rd and 5th) and not scales, correct? Thanks Jim
Guthrie, Is there anything special or advantageous of the arpeggios of the CAGED system? At the end of the day, they're just arpeggios. It seems confining to just think in CAGED when there are hundreds of arpeggios for any particular chord. Is it just a system of learning which is eventually meant to be broken out of? For example it doesn't help learn arpeggiating horizontally. I would also argue that there are more efficient arpeggio shapes than the 5 in CAGED.
Csus4 in the key of C usually implies more of a 4 chord thing, quick change to F kinda sound….going from CEG to CFG. It’s really all determined by the context though…what’s in the bass is the big factor.

Intro took my face off... thanks again for another great lesson, Guthrie!
Guthrie completely shreds the intro and then comes in and says, “just noodling around having some fun…” Me, “🤯🤯🤯🤯” You are such an inspiration, Guthrie! I have a lesson scheduled with you soon. Really looking forward to it.
I loved that intro and will be learning from it, thanks Guthrie
I think you learned the theory afterwards. Gifted soab, born with it learning through playing like breathing and talking. Thanks for your effort spreading your story! Much love from Europe!
Makes me think of the Gypsies and the troubadours and Irish fiddlers etc... who didn't have acces to classical formation, nice.
I'm still taking in yesterday's lesson
A year ago, this was Greek to me today. I got it. Thanks Guthrie.

I’d say stick to whatever works for you.
The flat 7 of G kind of creates a sus 4 sound in C. Both sounds want to resolve. What do you think?
Csus4 in the key of C usually implies more of a 4 chord thing, quick change to F kinda sound….going from CEG to CFG. It’s really all determined by the context though…what’s in the bass is the big factor.
But yes they both want to resolve from F to E in the key of C.
Are you always starting on the flat 7 of the previous chord before walking up to the major 3rd?
Two thumbs up for the video title 😂

Cruella de Ville lick lol
Once you are on the 5 chord, going back to the 1 chord is the same as going to the 4 of the 5 because the 1 is 5's 4 chord. Really! Get it?
That’s exactly how I DON’T think about it! Ha
