When Aloe graduated it was Botan who managed to stay steadfast on that stream so that the others could focus on venting their emotions a little. Even nowadays I feel like on-stream she very rarely lets her weakness show, so it's nice to know that at least off-stream she leans on her friends for support.

I know a few other people who are like that as well. They are completely different in private, and during work. A former boss of mine would always have this aura of dignity, and professionalism about himselfe while at work, but was a real goofball in private. And I'm the same, to an extend. I'm way more confident when I'm at work, telling people what to do, and talking to the planning department about problems, or possible improvements to a project. I would never assert myself like that in my private life.

There isn't always a direct way to translate everything, which is why it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to be a good translator. So while there are some bad translators out there, try to recognize that it's not so easy and directly translating everything doesn't always make the most sense.

    • @SSRB_Botandyn_446
      @SSRB_Botandyn_446  Год назад +21

100% agree on this too, translating everything too literally isn't a pretty scene either. Like, Japanese is very short and contextual, so everything will turn into a mess when translated literally.
For example, "後ろ!/Ushiro!", it literally means "Behind!/Back!", but just shouting "Back!/ Behind!" is very weird and doesn't actually accurately convey what the speaker is saying.
That's why, depending on the context, I would add additional word, for example, "Behind you!", "From behind!" or "From the back!", even though it was just a single word.
But yeah, like all things in life, balance is very crucial and should be the goal.

Within each Gen that debuts, there's always one member who comes off as the "leader" of the group I feel. Not in a way that they're more important than the rest, but instead that they are forerunner of the group, either being the most dependable, professional, or skilled. For Gen 5, it's Botan who comes off as the ace of the group. One of our first impressions of her was keeping a strong front when Aloe graduated.
When you have to be that strong, it's good to find someone you can be vulnerable around.

Eh. I never saw Botan as a leader and I doubt she would either. Lamy is the leader in my eyes. She ALWAYS organizes things for the other gen 5. She keeps track of them makes sure they're on time and are responding to messages properly. Botan while responsible and on time is more chill and has never really lead the gen 5. If anything I'd put polka way higher than Botan in terms of leadership skills and dependability. I love gen 5 but polka takes care of the others mentally while Lamy takes care of the physical things. Botan is more a solid foundation. She's grounded and logical (except for her flying fear). When the other 2 need someone to rely on that's when the lazy lioness makes her move. But usually she's just chilling letting the others take the lead. And to finish my metaphor Nene is the fluffy decorator that makes everyone beautiful and stand out

I also think that Subaru is mentally strong. She is a very goal driven person, she sets herself an objective and does not stop struggling to overcome any obstacle that can appear before her to reach said objective. Like, her learning English. She is determined to be able to speak English as a second language, and has practiced so much last year that nowdays she can hold up a simple conversation. If she keeps it up, in one or two more years she would have achieved her goal of being able to speak in English. And you KNOW she's going to do it, Subaru is unstoppable when she sets up a goal for herself.

Sometimes Watame makes me think she's strong because she has to. Same vibe from Shuba-chan. When life hits you, taking it on the chin is all you can do, and that hardens people. But at the same time, I have two verses from a song about toughness that I always think of:
    "O que é o que é,
    Clara e salgada,
    Cabe em um olho
    e pesa uma tonelada."
(Translate as needed, posting it in Portuguese because I wanted to keep the rhyme)
That said, I dunno about Botan's face of this 'cool person' like everyone says. Maybe it's an outsider's perspective since I'm about as removed from a native Japanese's outlook as you can get, but she's always struck me as tender and expressive. Not weak like Watame says, but delicate.

Only recently have I realized that Watame and Fauna have a lot in common: soft-spoken and big-hearted, but clever and funny, and rock-solid temperaments that aren't easily upset. Watame stands out for her drive to sing and perform, and inventive shorts, but recently I kind of feel like Fauna is really trying new things, doing more collabs, and "developing as a performer" if that makes sense.
Others said it too, but translating directly (with or without notes) is definitely the way to handle phrases that could be misinterpreted. MUCH better for some people to say, "eh? I don't understand!" than to have people misunderstanding and posting on Twitter or in a SC. Plus it's interesting to learn Japanese idioms!
Oh, one last note, a translation of "eigyou bougai" that doesn't sound extreme could be, "tarnish her image". A common use of the term "image" is a performer's "public persona".

wwww Well, to answer some of your questions in more details, one of the factor that made me used "bull-headed" is because Korone, Lui, and Botan discussed how Watame is unexpectedly quite stubborn before, so that talk affected my decision this time, as bull-headed can also be a negatively connoted word, just like stubborn.

The vocab a the end is a real nice touch haha. For whatever reason I just drummed up a conveluted way to memorize them that somehow works in my brain. Typing it out here to help me ingrain the vocab.
OchiKonda - Picture in your mind Ochi= Orochimaru (naruto) + Konda=Kanata (hololive), Orchimaru is 'evil' getting kanata to feel down so shes flying/falling down. Thus Ochikonada = feeling down.
Hekomushinai - Heko = Pekora running 'H'ead on into a Mushi - a mushroom, and nai already means 'no'. So i imagine Pekroa running full bull headed on into a mushroom and bonces off with the nai, but keeps on trying. Thus shes being bullheaded raming the mushroom and not backing down from taking no as a answer.
UchiTokete - Uchi = sea urchin. Tokete - sounds like a otomotapea for a 3 stage sound effect of cracking open the sea urchin. To is the inital crack, ke is the ripping middle, and te is the final busting open of the urchin and inside is a heart. Thus opening up the heart in a literal kind a way.
Ue - I just tried remembering this by plain memory haha. But can also think of a monkey "uuuuu'ing like fauna but with a 'e' at the end. And like the way most classic gorillas uuu and bang their chests they are almost looking up, so in my head ue is like the monkey trying to look higher as they bang their chest uuuuing.
Daijoubu - already known vocab by many I'm sure so no need to do any convoluted thinking here ahah.

might've still been better to go with "cried in my pillow" because "wet my pillow" feels very similar to "wet my bed".
granted, her "leaking" a lot is a bit of a joke in her stream, but still.
thanks for the translation! my imagine of botan really changed over the last couple months, after so many members saying shes like a little girl/sister, lol.

Nah dude, "wet my pillow" is a legitimate separate saying and does not have the same connotation as wetting the bed.

@@kabob21 didnt say its the same, just that clarifying it as "crying" is better, especially for people whose first language isnt english.
