As an old school misician, I love how fast it is to set up my QC. I still need to figure out scene and preset mode 😂 but I love how easy it is to get good tones. And I’ve captured all my amps and I bring them to my ship gig.
Great video man, thanks for posting. I have used my Kemper for 5 years now (purchased from Sweetwater) and I have been happy with the sounds but I really like the simplicity of the drop and drag QC. I’m definitely considering making the switch.
Agree 100% with your QC observations. The effects are great and mostly what you need. There's a few quirks - like the Leslie has no mix control. But mostly you can get the tones you need quickly without going through a tone of options that might not be that useful.
yea but they had a bunch of stuff at the first namm when it was announced but was never released! i hope that these things get rolled out soon! do you have a QC???
@@jimmyfranklin you’re absolutely correct. I actually brought that up to a rep. They made some promises that weren’t realized. They claim it’s due in the next update or two :/ we shall see
The UI is great. You’ll find well I don’t want to be tied to a pc. I hate modelers and I love this one in feel and sound. The UI like I said and no need for plug ins. Never even heard of them before so no not a fanboi. Still amps and pedals first but the quad is next. Already been through the Kemper and helix. No feel, the feel and sound needed help from pedals. Glad they’re gone. I’m a pedal addict and tbh I barely use any external pedals with the quad. Not a modulation user so the drives are better than the others imo. PC is in beta mode though. You can get a sound quick on the quad. No tweaking for hours.
I personally don’t find UI to be as user friendly as helix but that’s my opinion. You don’t have to be tied to the pC with any of them for editing. Helix is just as user friendly without the desktop software. That being said I prefer the desktop editors for fine tuning and dragging/dropping presets and IR easily. The latter is something QC is horrible at currently which is why the push for the desktop editor has so much attention. There is not right or wrong here. It’s all subjective! Use what makes ya happy
hi, you are so right, I can get amazing sounds from my QC on the fly, I cannot understand the grief that there is no pc editor when to be honest its not needed, I put mine on my sheet music stand tilted toward me, I can then edit patches while sitting and playing. as you said all the good units , QC, fractal, line 6 etc are very good you buy what you believe delivers what you want and for me the QC ticked all the boxes
Awesome playing & great sound man!!! After look at your video, now I really want Quad Cortex man , since FM9 Turbo is still on the waiting list 😅 -Muzza from Malaysia
The helix floor is the best all around unit. The scribble strips, touch sensitive buttons and expression pedal all rule every other unit. Problem is their amp modeling stinks and has weird frequencies in all the highgain amps and the feel is terrible. I had both and sold the quad first. I actually didn’t like how small it was. I felt like the footswitches were too close together. If L6 ever gets it together and gets some type of profiling or new modeling algorithm I’ll be back there in a second. Still got my trusty Kemper that’s so outdated but filled with a billion of my own amps I profiled
Currently a Helix user, but not Helix lover. Tones are okay, but a bit of a pain to program. Strongly considering a QC. Basically, I want good tone, quick programming, simple live setup (about 4 presets or scenes), and the ability to capture my favorite amps and gain/compressor pedals without a lot of fuss. Probably a QC in my near future
Favorites distortion amp sims imo are Soldano lead, Friedman lead EVH blue. Nah plug ins with latency. You can find the same thing in neural captures in that quad. There’s a lot there. Option paralysis is a problem. They have a lot but I don’t want 1,000 presets that basically all sound like the same 3 sounds I always go for. Clean, crunch, high gain. Helix imo was not in the same league in sound or feel as I said. I’ve never seen so many over plug in whiners re this product when they’ve never tried it. They’re here to stay because there’s more of us that love it than those that are upset about a pc and a plug in.
its true in a lot of ways. i would like to see those things come out because i want to have faith in the company. i like having the helix community around it and when theres less support it can be concerning especially when i wanna take this on the road a lot. but the soldano is amazing and all the friedman stuff in the quad is amazing. it makes me field like the real thing does which is sweet. people knock high gain saying that everything sounds the same but those people are really missing the nuances of these high gain models!
@@jimmyfranklin understand the company made a promise. I just will never use those things. Fyi I needed their help they helped every time right away. It was bought used. It had an issue. They paid for everything. Shipping both ways. Idk they’ve been very supportive with me. Being it was used they didn’t have to even help but they did. I had the other two and the feel the sound was lacking. Too much tweaking. The quad is fast. My amps and pedals come first though. Cheers. 🎸 ps the pc is in beta testing I heard but again I don’t want to be tied to a computer all day.
I agree, I don’t need a desktop editor…. I’m over everyone complaining… I’d rather have more sounds, more amps, plug-ins available over a desktop editor.
I got a quad cortex last year. It’s amazing. I almost exclusively play death metal/deathcore/black metal/hardcore. QC gets you that timeless 5150 tone, super easy to dial in what you want even for a peasant like me who doesn’t know much about production. Fits in a backpack for live shows too. Maybe if you’re a guy who want 20 pedals or is obsessed with tone chasing the you’d prefer the competitors. But if you just want amazing tones for low effort so you can focus on playing the actual guitar then QC is banging. I don’t really understand why people are desperate for plugins to be on it. Most of the plugins are just JCM 800, Dual Recs, 5150s and fender amps anyway. Which are already in the QC.
Sometimes i think they only want something to complain about... I'm happy with the unit too. But i don't buy stuff if i "hope something is gonna be implemented in the unit" i buy stuff for what its capable right now
Completely agree with you on the whole plug-in-to-QC porting. It doesn’t make any sense really, as someone’s PC and a QC are going to have totally different drivers and sound cards. You’d still need to tweak the plug-in preset once it’s on the QC
I have a few. I use a Canon M50 mkii with a lens adapter and a bigger canon lens (i forget which one), I have another canon M50 as the guitar cam. and a sony zv 1 as the 3rd camera. what do you use?
Thank you so much for sharing!! May I ask about my confusion that has been in my mind for a long time: I only used white box modelling devices like Hx Stomp, where I 'imagine' that I have these amp models and manipulate them in the Helix world, and never tried a amp capturing device like Kemper and Quad Cortex. I learned from the internet that amp capturing device are used to capture your tone, so a player can just clone the tone she/he has in studio and get rid of carrying many heavy devices to the gig. I wonder if QC still fits the person in the scenario that doesn't have great amp & pedals to capture? :)
interesting! I actually am that person... i dont really have any amps anymore and i record with tones from my modelrs any way. this QC and my helix have been awesome becasue i make my tone on there the record and its already saved! i dont plan on really capturing much but i am excited to try it one day!
Im still wanting this as I have a bunch of neural plugins but theres 2 things stopping me pulling the trigger... 1)They havent ported them despite promising to which leads me to think they wont follow through on other updates /promises 2) powersupply - looks like it will break easily. 3) there is noticable lag when preset swapping between amps. Apparently this can be solved using Scene mode. 4) hard to get hold of. And this means of theres an issue its unlikely I could run to the store for a replacement. 5) no desktop editor No expression pedal but thats fine i dont need it and Ill probably run a real wah infront as the ramps on these midi pedals feel weird. Pros. -Sounds awesome. -the UI is easy AF. - size
The desktop editor is due sometime this month if I’m not mistaken and they have started sending out emails about their plugin compatibility that is also due fairly soon now.
For the money i would have bought a couple other things to do the job. I don't agree that not having a desktop editor is a benefit. You're trying to justify its deficiencies and price Most users including developers agree that these are shortcomings for an expensive product. It also seems you are starved for power attracting only most expensive units. A headrush would solve all your needs so would a Tonex paired with a pod go.
@@jimmyfranklin Well I guess it doesn't matter. You said you are partial to Neural plugins and like the sound so you found your fit. I am not trying to pick a fight with you. Your title suggests justifying this purchase in 2023 and just wanted to say there are way more options for the money that I would pick. Have you ever owned a previous QC or is this your first? I have owned 3. I sold all mine. You said you don't care for a desktop app yet you favor the neural DSP plugins, which obviously are desktop-based on a DAW no less. I can't tell if you didn't want the desktop app because it would be more complicated or you didn't want the need of a computer. The plugins require and have both. On stage there are no units that require a desktop app to operate so that isn't an issue. You are asking me what units to use? Based off you analysis and requirements and favorability then the QC is your kit. You have already rattled off how all other units are either too big, too small, not powerful enough etc. I personally use the Axefx 3 with my TONEX. On stage I use my Axefx 3 with FC-12 footswitch or TONEX with an FM3 or a Headrush MX5. Have fun with you QC and was a good video.

way more amps and cab options than the new fender tone master Neural DSP is still king
Can you run this through a stand alone power amp into a cab? Thinking of selling my boogie JP2C for a QC
yes. check out the pedal baby 100 (orange)
