Edward Norton was adamant that his face was not used in the movie and that his name not appear in the credits. Allegedly, Norton was upset when his name was added to the credits for the video release. Baldwin is a descendant by Female line of Baldwin of Boulogne, legendary crusader of the First Crtsade.

    • @kungfuspider318
      @kungfuspider318 5 месяцев назад +12

Re the siege of Jerusalem in the First Crusade:
"Atrocities committed against the inhabitants of cities taken by storm after a siege were normal in ancient and medieval warfare by both Christians and Muslims. The crusaders had already done so at Antioch, and Fatimids had done so themselves at Taormina, at Rometta, and at Tyre. However, it is speculated that the massacre of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, both Muslims and Jews, may have exceeded even these standards."
The participants were not legendary, they were pathetic, cowardly, and lacked respect for their faith, since they intentionally slaughtered noncombatants (women and children). In modern day, they'd be called terrorists by the very definition of the word. As Christians, let's be sure to appropriately spread awareness and have shame towards the participants of such a sacrilegious endeavor in the name of our faith.

@@HarrDarr - thanks for your inquiry. Of course, many crusaders are well known to this day. However, as Christians, the word "legendary" doesn't align with our historical or religious understanding of these figures. "Infamous" or "notorious" is more appropriate. Genghis Khan, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin - these men are not described as "legendary" by Christians. Let the soul of any person who has committed indiscriminate mass murder of innocents be commended to God. However, let our conversations about them be devoid of reverence, in accordance with our faith and the teachings of Jesus.
Here are some of those teachings, pulled from the Holy Bible. It might help to read the full verses for context, I've added the references for good measure.
Deuteronomy 19:10: "That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord God giveth thee"
Deuteronomy 27:25: "Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person"
Psalm 10:8: "In the secret places doeth he murder the innocent"
Psalm 106:38: "And shed innocent blood, even blood of their sons and of their daughters,/; and polluted the land with blood"
Have a great day and God bless you.

When I was sixteen, I won a great victory. I felt in that moment I would live to be a hundred. Now I know I shall not see thirty. None of us know our end, really, or what hand will guide us there. A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus," or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice. Remember that.

"Your soul is in your keeping. When you stand before God, you cannot say "I was told by others to do thus" or "Virtue was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice."
That's a quote that many people, myself included at times, should really keep in mind. Real virtue is maintaining your virtue even when you have to sacrifice to keep it. "I can't lose my job", "I can't afford to spend money" "It doesn't really matter anyway" "People might not like me or mock me"
Especially in our fast-paced postmodern world, there are a thousand excuses or rationalizations people can tell themselves but at the end of the day the reality is that what that person thought was right wasn't worth sacrificing anything of significance. That's a pretty weak virtue really isn't it?

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
    116. And Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as gods apart from Allah?’” He will say, “Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to. Had I said it, You would have known it. You know what is within me, and I do not know what is within You. It is you who are the Knower of the hidden.
    117. I only told them what You commanded me: ‘Worship Allah-my Lord and your Lord.’ And I was a witness over them, as long as I was among them. But when You took me back, You were the Watcher over them-You are Witness over all things.
    118. If You punish them, they are Your servants; but if You forgive them: it is you who are the Mighty and Wise.”
    119. Allah will say, “This is a Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness.” For them are Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will remain forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the supreme attainment.
    120. To Allah belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and everything in them, and He is capable of everything.

History suggests that it was WIlliam of Tyre, not Godfrey who first realised that young Baldwin could not feel pain in his arms and hands.

From what I understand, Godfrey is not based on any single historical figure. He was essentially created as a generic template of a crusader knight and inserted into the story. Could be wrong, but I vaguely remember reading that in a commentary/“making of” book.
