My family always noticed it, the irritability the angry responses and mood changes. These last few weeks though have been tough, had at least two anxiety attacks what with the twitches . Started on my right calf, then my left and now get random twitches all over but no weakness or anything. I convinced myself I had the first diagnosis that popped up on my computer screen - that was of course, ALS. They did have health forums back then but they were obviously no help. To this day, I still twitch, but I now see the pattern & they are far worse when I’m anxious. They honestly don’t even bother me these days. Wow! Amazing vid for me to watch - I feel I could have made it myself given EVERYTHING you mention I went through in 2006.
I was utterly convinced I had the disease - to the point I had written farewell letters to all my friends and family (I still have them BTW), and I even packed clothes and toiletries when I visited my GP for the umpteenth time in a month, convinced I'd got so bad I would be admitted to hospital immediately. My only real 'symptom' was fasciculations in my calves. They were quite obvious and came out of nowhere - did not bother me at all UNTIL I did the stupid & googled things. From then I saw twitches in my tongue, I swore my arm muscles had shrivelled, I was certain I couldn't jump as high as you used to be able to. It was ridiculous in hindsight but not at all at the time. Of course my out of control anxiety DID start to manifest some physical effects. I didn't eat for a month and barely slept, so what happened? Yeah I lost a lot of weight and I looked awful. This just fed the fire.
Personally I only recovered after seeing a neurologist and as Cherelle says - she pretty much told me within a minute I didn't have ALS. I still didn't believe her and so we went through the nerve conduction tests to prove to me I was okay. I left that appointment with the most serene and joyful feeling ever - BUT within a week or do doubts crept back in. Finally the only way my eyes were truly opened was through anti-anxiety medication. I know it's not for all but it really did help me.
Oh and to end my story - my calves still fasciculate regularly and often. 18 years later. I am happy, healthy, and I don't know why it happens, but clearly it can be for completely benign reasons.
Take care everyone ❤ and well done on a very relatable and helpful video Cherelle.

Googling Eye twitching and vibrations that I’ve been experiencing for 3 weeks have brought me down a dark dark path. Here I am constantly searching ALS symptoms. From experiencing muscle twitching to random jerks, convinced I have this disease. Meanwhile I’m at the gym every night pushing heavy weight. I needed this video. Why? Because I have started questioning my mortality, how I could never live with the disease, thinking of ways of how I would have to end it. All over… eye twitching. The anxiety, stress and depression have made things 20x worse for me. Health anxiety is a real thing and google is the gasoline for the fire. We need to stop doing this to ourselves. I’ve been struggling with health anxiety since November. I had a lot of symptoms that would last a month. I had dizziness, headaches, i convinced myself i had HIV, a brain tumor, etc. But now, for a month, i’ve been experiencing muscle twitches that are very fast and not repetitive, also I cannot see them, just feel them. It all started when my right thumb twitched and I felt weakness in my arms. It passed, but then, I started feeling these internal twitches and feeling a weird tightness in my right hand and wrist, muscle tension all over my body. I went through A LOT since November and i am hoping all of this is because of stress, the fear is really making my life a living hell everyday. I am 20 years old, and I am desperate!!!!

Great video’s. Last november I was hospitalized with atrial fibrillation at the age of 35. Far too young for such a rythm disorder. Scary. From there it went downwards. Panic attacks at night when my heart goes mad. Since months i’m having twitching, tingeling and numbness in my body. My sister has MS, so i’m worried that I have that as well and that is the reason of my heartproblems. MS can literally affect everything in the body. been down the ALS rabit hole, but I have heartproblems as well and ALS does’nt affect the heart, so that’s somewhat of a relief…. Next week I have an appointment with a neurologist. The docter says it’s stress. That’s possible, but I’ve experienced no stress for the last two months and the symptoms don’t go away. Making me really insecure.

Follow-up. The check-up with the neurologist was fine. No weird reflexes. She thinks anxiety/stress. Within 6 weeks I’ll get an MRI and EMG to rule things out. MS isn’t a hereditary disease, but my chances of getting it is about 40x larger because of my sister has it (say 3-4%). All was fine at her first appointments with a neurologist as well. Her symptoms were worse. Especially the insane fatigue that is specific to MS and “walking on clouds”. Luckily I don’t have that symptoms, so I have good faith that it’s just my brain messing with me.

I appreciate this video so much.
    I'm 31 Male, caucasian Male.
I have 100% visual atrophy of my left leg, HOWEVER, I have a confirmed a diagnosed herniated disk that shows this, further more this leg had clinical strength test from a physio not long after, very clear nerve and muscle damage from my sciatica.
I broke up with my ex recently 2 months ago, I was going through the stresses of worrying about my liver. I am an alcoholic of 12-10 years, in the last 3 I went absolutely mental. One day while my ex was behind me in my bed, I was about 5 beers in and I was COVERED in itching and pin pricks and needles.
Few days pass same symptoms, constant, and my nerve damaged leg starts kicking off, twitching more than it did when I had my last spell of sciatica.
A month and a few weeks pass I start feeling really down, my muscles feel heavy my damaged leg is going crazy 24/7 twitching spasms and cramps, I google (worst idea ever) (potential MDN / ALS) I go hooooooly shiiiiiiit, my already stress filled life ramps up by 2000x. Some nights no sleep and symptoms got worse by 100x over the nights.
The twitching hasn't completely stopped, but I'm calmer. I accepted that I have health anxiety, I kept trying to play games to take my mind off that wouldn't work but I noticed when I would sit down by the telly with my mother and talk all the symptoms would alleviate, that doesn't happen with ALS or / MDN, it's forever.
Like you said about clinical weakness that was key in me learning that this isn't this super rare disease, even on my atrophied leg (from sciatica), I did self-tests as I knew before it's alot weaker than my right leg but I could calf raise without difficulty, raise my toes, raise my heel and hold balance on this particular beaten up leg for over 20s

Im 36, and have had muscle twitches for 7-8 months now off and on…ive gone down the rabbit hole a hundred times. It’s worse when im just sitting still (but that’s the only time I really notice it). It’s so frustrating. But I’ve had no other symptoms. Just random fasciculations all over at different times. It’s scary. I’m very active and have little kids and I just worry myself to death and can’t ever stop thinking about not being able to raise them.
I was a pretty heavy drinker for a couple years (2020-2022-covid times). I quit drinking.
My wife’s dad died in October of 2023, she was stressed and we stayed up late one night drinking (I drank way too much) and the onset of fasciculations started the next day and have been off and on ever since. I haven’t drank since, but it’s worried me so much.
I am a high anxiety/anxious person and always have been without the best coping mechanisms(work more, work harder, workout more/harder, ect).
I’ll just keep waiting and seeing if things get worse or better. They don’t affect my life, but they do cause more anxiety. I just stay busy and ignore them the most I can, but laying in bed at night and feeling them starts the cascade of worry all over, over and over again.
Idk. Just wanna raise my kids and be there for them.

I Have a awful health anxiety and OCD (male 28) and I'm im the bulbar Als rabbit hole .. I read about it and after a week I have started to slurre many words, No one have heard it when they speak to me, but! I have it recorded when I do slurre, so I really are slurring my words. I also started stuttering.
After the first slurre I got so hyperaware of my speech. I have never had any problems with my speech, my speech is my biggest gift in my life so when something is off with it, I know for sure something is really wrong. During this time, I also remember my tongue feeling fatigue. I do not slurre all the time it's coming and going.
I’ve also developed in the last 2-3 days a scalloped tounge and burning sensation on my tounge (never had this before), fasiculations all over my body, mostly on my left buttcheek, it also feels like I have lost the coordination of my tounge and my tounge is always touching my teeth while I’m speaking, I never had braces and I have straight teeth. And today I have bit my tounge like 15 times meanwhile I'm speaking ..

So to my question, is this the bulbar onset of ALS? Because how can it be possible for me to slurre my words for 17 days with just hyperawareness and health anxiety, it should not be possible right?

Hey there! I really appreciate this support video. I've been having twitching in the face, calves, arms, feet etc it's getting worse. It's probably not ALS but I've also got a horrible face rash currently that's red, hearing loss that's coming off and on with ringing in the ears where I can barely hear, nausea off and on, horrible headaches etc. especially in the morning
I did some research after suffering badly for awhile now, and apparently CHRONIC LYME DISEASE can cause muscle twitching which can be mistaken for ALS sometimes in people.
This could be the case in my case, and if it is, well, the bad news is I'm having problems, but the good news it's probably not from ALS . That being said, my symptoms are serious, and if it's Lyme Disease, that's also serious and needs treatment, but at least it can be treated.
People need to be aware or Lyme disease too. It almost killed Avril Lavigne even, it's common (way more common thsn ALS) and the symptoms are horrible.
In any case, worried about my health which seems to be deteriorating, and I'm worried about symptoms which appear to be bad, but this video is reassuring that it's probably not ALS.

@@LidoBombs2 Feeling better overall, but the twitching is frequent and literally EVERYWHERE! Face, neck, hands, feet, calf muscles, arm muscles, you name it.
I'm getting EMG testing in a couple weeks. It's very scary, but I haven't noticed weekness at this point. Had an MRI too and there's white matter congruent with migraines though it COULD be MS in my case as white matter in the T2 receptor sites can be migraines or MS and hard to differentiate (and I've had migraines my whole life).
Too early to tell.... Obviously very scared, but it has been happening for a couple months plus now and I went hiking 6 miles a couple days ago, so I don't think it's ALS .... Eh
As horrible as MS is I'd rather have that then ALS obviously. MS CAN also cause spasms like this off and on but it usually has other symptoms. Not everyone with MS gets spasms either but many people do.
The thing is I've had some of these other symptoms unfortunately like flashing lights at night, and uncontrollable eye movements, especially when I wake up.
It's sort of like the spasms, but my eyes will move everywhere uncontrollably for a few minutes. Obviously I'm getting EMG testing and seeing a neurologist.... Eh still scared crapless, but at least I keep reminding myself I hiked 6 miles the other day.
That being said the twitching/fasciculations drive me nuts.

@@torbawden8856 No fun! Lots of shocks and stabs. In my case a needle in the neck even.
I've gone through worse things, and thankfully it only took like 90 minutes, but it's definitely not enjoyable. That being said, it was well worth it.
In my case I'm experiencing weakness and fasiculations/twitching... So I may have serious health concerns still, but it's great to know that it's almost certainly not a MND motor neuron disease like ALS.
The other thing to note, my weakness is more, "It's getting difficult and causes fatigue to do ABC action.". With ALS it's more, "I can't do ABC no matter how hard I try.".
One is a form of physical weakness versus clinical weakness. Clinical weakness with ALS comes with I can't that spreads... Based on what the doctor told me.
MS still really sucks too. Eh.... I had an MRI and white matter was found in the frontal lobe areas. This can be caused by migraines which I've had my whole life and it can be caused by MS...... It's too early to tell, but I'm almost, 36 which is one of the common ages to start developing MS whereas ALS is even more rare at 36. How old are you is the first question?
If you have fasiculations everywhere, that CAN be a sign of MS too though generally it isn't, but with some people (as it might be in my case) it could be the doctor told me.
The other thing is I get them everywhere. I've also got other symptoms though just for reference. Uncontrollable eye movements at times with both eyes, especially in the mornings. Horrible headaches, weird flashing lights at night, and dizziness, especially when the head goes back or after lying down (vertigo).
All of these symptoms tend to wax and wane which is a sign of MS too. There are remissions and then symptoms like this can hit you bad.
Not saying you have MS or ALS though.... obviously if you're having fasicikations like this I'd do the EMG testing and be done with it so you can hopefully move on from the ALS worries etc. It's an extremely low risk test that has been around for many decades now! It probably doesn't hurt to check for signs of MND just to be safe in any case of spasms/twitching that can't be explained and is persistent.
If you're NOT getting weakness with your fasiculations, it's almost certainly NOT ALS. I'm not a doctor, but that's what I understand from what I've read. Where are you getting fasciculations and what other symptoms if any are you having?

@@biljam972 I agree. That should not be on the table for twitching alone. I’m sorry but that’s a bad neuro. Also, you only need 1 EMG. No such thing as early EMG once symptoms begin. No need to repeat. Sorry you went through that.

Hello, your video is very helpful.
i don't know if my story can help , last year( June 2022) i went through this horrible journey, it all started with my cpk a bit high i checked on google and i don't know how i came accros this disease call ALS.
I have never heard about this before. after two days of research on google i noticed the twitching everywhere, calf, tongue fingers face, back, nose lips everywhere. ( while typing now it is twitching in my right leg)
i searched a lot on the internet regarding this disease i was obsessed by this disease and i was sure that i got it.
i've done a Full MRI, cerebral scan and a lot of tests which was normal, then i decided to do my first EMG
i was in the waiting area waiting for my tern for the emg, i got twitching everywhere and during the test not even 1 twitch. the doctor said everything is normal, after 3 weeks with more twitching on my back and legs i decided to go for a second emg and same, while waiting in the corridor it was twitching like crazy and during the test zero twitch ( this was in august 2022)
after some time everything was back to normal since last month where my twitching started again in my tongue i felt like the muscle of my tongue is weak and cannot even swallow properly with a pain on the upper back up to my right tricep tendon, i have an appointment with neurologist again tomorrow to check, and again i am very stressed and my anxiety is horrible.
i hope i don't have this disease. i am afraid of this disease and again obsessed i also cannot even understand why

So basically with als the twitches follow after clinical weakness? My calves have been twitching for a week now driving me crazy! Glad I found your video

I appreciate your content. I do. But my father was died from ALS and after months of muscle twitches, I was diagnosed with ALS. So I think it’s good to tell people not to worry, but I’m gonna die in few years and I was fortunate to know the early signs because I researched my prognosis
