I just came across your channel for the first time and WOW I'm impressed with the level of informational detail, video quality and environmental color warmth. Excellent, well executed. Awesome pack. Mystery Ranch's foundation design, attention to detail and quality is superb. I hope other companies start implementing their blueprint but at a affordable price.
@@bReNdA-zb4dj Went out on opening weekend of rifle season in Montana. Was really excited to try out the bag, had purchased my exo in July but didn't receive the pack till mid September after I had already been out bow hunting in Montana and hadn't got the chance to use it. So that morning I loaded up my exo with very few supplies as it was rifle season and I wasn't planning on spending the night. If memory serves I believe all I had in the pack was rope, two knives, 20 extra rounds, my garmin, a couple bottles of water, a couple of energy bars and a lighter. Needless to say I didn't have much weight if any in the pack, it's sole purpose was to help me pack out an elk. After hiking back around nine miles my brother and I were fortunate enough to tag a nice royal bull. We arrived at the down bull at about 10:30 am and I took off my pack and undid a velcro strap to prepare the bag and the frame broke. All I did was wear the bag for around 6 hours hiking with little to no weight and upon undoing a velcro strap the supposed titanium frame busted right around my shoulder and left two jagged points. This rendered the pack unusable as any slip or fall would have meant I could impale myself on the frame. Called exo the next Monday as it took two days to get the elk out. Exo were real dicks about everything. Didn't believe what I was telling them, made me text them pics and had my brother who also owns an exo and knows the owners of the company call them before they would give me a refund. They kept trying to get me to take a new pack from them guaranteeing that this has never happened or will again. Since that date I have recieved emails from exo as I'm still on their mailing list and apparently there were multiple manufacturing issues with the packs they released last year. Pack cover didn't fit right, frame issues, and others. I would recommend checking out other packs such as the one reviewed above.
I am planning on buying one of these before elk season this year, and a mule bag to trade out for when I only want a day pack. I think the Beartooth without the lid would be an awesome size for most of the hunts I do, and adding the lid would give me the little bit of extra space when I need it. Having the smaller bag to throw on there when I want would just be icing on the cake I think.
Ryan Goold I’m thinking bout getting the pintler as a bag only option for a smaller pac. The Beartooth seems to be the perfect size for longer stays but I would like a smaller pac for day trips.
Look at the Sawtooth 45 as option. It is possible to add a Mystery Ranch Day Lid over the Sawtooth 45 with buckles available online as seen here imgur.com/t/sawtooth_45/i29TlSi and here imgur.com/t/sawtooth_45/CixyM7a
@@rayngrace i second this. I bought a Sawtooth with the guidelite frame MT, and then a Beartooth 80 bag. I use the Sawtooth for whitetail hunting and day hunts, the Beartooth for elk, backcountry, bear hunting etc etc.
NLuxen personally the Marshall was a little big for what I do. I’m trying to slim down my load out and not take the kitchen sink with me into the mountains anymore. The biggest change/difference between the two and reason for getting the Beartooth is the pockets. The Marshall was more of a ruck style pack with big open areas to stuff all of your things. It didn’t offer much separation for your gear and was limited on external and internal pockets. The Beartooth 80 is around 5100 cubic inches and has a ton of internal and external pockets. My personal choice is the Beartooth for trips lasting 7 days or less. Hope this helps
@@chasingmoby1341 Thank you for the information. Since watching your video, I bought a Beartooth 80 and I love it. Mine is currently not filled much, and the compression straps keep it very streamlined.
Im looking for a new pack that distributes more weight onto my hips.... Currently using a whitetail pack & a hikers pack for elk hiking isnt workng / too much weight on my shoulders
I'm torn between the kuiu and this Mystery ranch. But just curious you said you switch to this pack because of size nut does all kuiu pack swap out. Could you just purchased a big bag itself. I have the first kuiu pack now 2011 or so. But need to upgrade
I know they’ve change frames several times but I think some of the Kuiu packs may still fit. At one point I had a pack and a frame that were not compatible with each other. I didn’t dig much deeper than that so I’m not sure. I still have an icon Pro 3200. My son uses it most the time. It’s still absolutely bombproof. Kuiu makes good packs!
JailBreak Overlander the fact that they are built overseas definitely did bother me... I know that IPhones, Swarovski glass, and tons of other great products are made over seas.... BUT... they didn’t start out being made in the USA and then switch... time will tell if it’s still a good product. It still seems high quality. We will find out!
@@vincentdejong1818 I use a trash bag between the frame and the game bag to keep the blood off the frame. The bag itself I remove from the frame and hand wash in the bathtub with a tooth brush, dish soap, and baking soda
Isnt it the whole point to a good pack is to put the weight onto the hips ??? You stated about the meat shelf that it takes the weight off of your hips....
ThistleDewOutdoors I’m sure that getting the weight off of your shoulders is probably the main point of the design. But It seems like I can end up with to much weight on either the hips or on my shoulders and with a heavy load having a well fitting evenly distributed weight seems to be what works best. All of the weight in one place wears me out much quicker. To much weight on my hips and hiking becomes and issue. But yes. I’m sure the point is to get the weight off of your shoulders and share it with the hips. I’m by no means an expert. I believe MR have a few videos on their channel describing fit and function of their harness system.
Incredible video. Thanks for the info. I'm going to pick this pack up.

Great review. I was looking at adding just this bag to go along with my sawtooth and looks like a good fit
I'm going to pull the trigger this week. Still trying to decide which one....leaning towards the Metcalf.
Love the name of your channel
Thanks!
MysteryRanch Back Packs are awesome got 2 of em.
Good review. Thanks for sharing
Sweet breakdown of the new mystery ranch beartooth. Probably going to have to get myself one after my disastrous experience with exo.
What happened with the exo?

Great review 👍
Great video brother! Just picked up one myself! Upgraded from the gen 1 Metcalf
So thorough thanks so much

Great video.
Thanks!
Now that you're a little over a year in, would you purchase it again? Great video, thanks for the info!
Absolutely. I still run this exact pack. Lots and lots of pack outs and a few long backpack trips. ✅

Nice review, How has the hunting season been this year? Is the pack still all that?
Pack was awesome. Spent a lot time in the wilderness. Also packed out quite a few bears this spring. No complaints yet.
Well thank you for staying active and actually responding to a comment like that that's great I'm sold

I guess I missed the weight what does this pack weigh???
Think its 6.7lbs... not a light pack.
What sleep system do you use?
I have a mash up of different brands. I run an REI down 30 degree bag and a exped sleeping pad. I like the big agness copper spur for a tent ✅
