Agreed, imo building even a basic gym for a single person requires atleast 300sqft of space, and in any city such a space would cost alot, just investing the same amount of money in stock market would generate much more each year than gym membership costs
100% I think if price wasn't an issue, but space was, I'd want one of those smith/cable/racks in one (€3k+) and (adjustable) dumbbells. But in order to give up my gym membership I'd probably want a treadmill, I hate dressing for the climate, be it sunburn-risk or icey roads, and I'd like a deadlifting platform (also for hip thrust just in case) or a very reliable floor. And then it's easy to fall down the rabbit hole of what else would I want.

A home gym doesn't have to be expensive. In reality, all you need is a pair of adjustable dumbbells, a bench, and a pull up bar. My workout equipment in total cost me about $300. Most of the good compound exercises can be done with what I've listed. You can use the bench for dips.
Where did you get a decent set of adjustable dumbells, a pull up bar and a bench for about $300? I've got the bench and a pull up bar (the type you just screw into a door frame opening 😅), but every decent pair of adjustable dumbbells I've seen usually cost around that much on their own

Barbell and weights up to 500lbs. Going to order ironmaster adjustable dumbbells next. Got some monolift hooks just to see how those will work. I'd really like an attachment to do hamstring curls as my they helped my tight hammies in my commercial gym training a lot. I may just have to incorporate RDLs or some sort of stretching.
That home gym... at first, before you entered that home- I thought it was going to be Silence of the Lambs and Buffalo Bill would come out in his/her robe dancing to Wild Horses.
The first thing I would buy is a power rack and bench... I was going to say Smith machine, but being able to remove the bar and having an option to do pull ups in a power rack makes it more worth it for a home gym.... If you get a dip attachment, a couple different bars, and enough weights.. you can almost get by with just a power rack
If I had to choose 2 machines for a home gym I would go for the cable cross over machine with built in bench press and squat rack. Also a lat pull-down machine. You can make serous gains with that alone
Treadmills/stationary bikes/steppers... just not needed! Go out for a jog/walk, ride your bike in the neighborhood, climb the stairs in the house. And with that court and what not.. yeah.. elliptical as the only "cardio" machine.. totally fine. Man, that gym... so soo nice.
The first thing for my home gym? Definitely a power rack with platform and overhead straight bar, and an adjustable bench. Those are usually no more than $3k. Next thing is Olympic bar and bumper plates, a set of 260lb is within $1k. A $5k budget for a home gym is more than enough. With $24k, you can buy a full rack of dumbbells from 5lb to 110lb, a treadmill, an assault bike, and maybe a few machines on top of all these.
Hey Will! Perfect timing man, I just sat down with my salad and your notification popped up. Hehehe, I'm sore all over, but hey, thanks to the knowledge you share with us, I dropped 17 lbs and still going strong. Thank you! ❤🙏🏼💪🏼😊
I have that exact same pullup/dip bar from the first gym, and I said basically the same thing when I first tried it out. I got it for free though, so I guess I can't complain. But the only way to get it to be functional is either strapping it down or having somebody else stand on the other side of it to make it shake less lol
I love that the big home gym had all white equipment. that would 100% make me feel anabolic despite the lush setting simply as would make me feel nostalgic for when I first started lifting back in the 90's
Some cable machines and squat rack and bench press and 10 pound to 150 pound dumbbells and leg press and a pull-up bar and some curl bars , place to deadlift and a treadmill thats most of the basics you need also like several plates and different weights like 8 ,45s and and 6,25s and 6, 10s and 6,5s thats enough to stare out and have a good amount of weights till you need more.
Will- how do you come up with ideas and coordinate all of this for videos each week? Im very impressed! Do you do all the research yourself, planning, etc.?
If I had $24,000 to spend on a home gym I'd spend about $2,000 on gym equipment and put the rest in the bank. I actually have my own gym at home and I got pretty much every piece of equipment from eBay. Gym equipment is pretty much the ideal thing to get fantastic bargains with because it's generally heavy so only local buyers and there's not much competition for it. My favourite bargains were a brand new Technogym Group Cycle (spin bike) for £350 which are about £2,200 new and my treadmill which was about £70. I've got two of those bikes, a Concept2 Erg, multigym, cross trainer and a small amount of free weights. Total cost about £1,500 (a bit less than 2,000 USD).
3:55 I’d buy a squat rack with 8 plates of each eight, a bar, clips, a mat for it to stand on, a mirror wall, and a bench that can be inclined and declined. Then some weight adjustable dumb bells, a pull-up bar with grip variation, a zebra mat are for stretching, and 30 yards of Astro turf with the yards marked. A sled with straps for sled pull, and lastly a cable machine with full variation. That’s about 50,000 I guess.
i feel like cable machines are amazing for home gyms, it’s extremely versatile and you don’t need a lot of space to store plates. Even if you plan on adding a squat rack or bench and need to get plates in the future anyways, you can use the cable machine for *almost* any dumbbell exercise so it still keeps its usefulness
I have my own home gym. In my opinion, if you want to have your own home gym, the things you really need are: • Dumbbells • Bench (Adjustable) • Rack (either Half or Full, your preference; including pullup bar and pulley) • Barbell • Curlbar • Plates • Weighted Vest That's really all you need for the rest of your life. Personally, I also got a leg extension because I just love that shit. I went with hex dumbbells because I prefer to just have them smaller and resistant to being dropped, as well as not having to change the weight on them manually.
Am I missing something with the batting cage? It looks like you'd either break one of the ceiling lights or the ball would ricochet off the walls back at the pitcher. If you pull the ball too much there's a window right to your left too
I never expected to hear the foreboding theme from Little Nightmares (an indie horror game) in a Will Tennyson video, but there it was at 8:50. It plays in the game when you see the Maw (a metal megastructure house/nursery/restaurant at sea), and its seemingly infinite depth, so the music fits oddly really well for a huge mansion. For it to fit so well, I'm inclined to believe Will or his editor has played Little Nightmares. Am I overanalyzing? Yes. I played the game about four to five times and I'm obsessed. I highly recommend it.
Editor of the vid here, I actually never played the game but I'm utterly fascinated with it. While editing I like to listen to RUclipsrs like Grizzy do hour long playthroughs. The soundtrack for the game is great, it's a shame I can only use about 6 seconds without copyright so you can only use it for comedic effect
My home gym consists of, A spin bike for the real bad weather days, a pair of running shoes for the outdoor cardio, a yoga mat, some kettle bells of various weights, and the bowflex dumbbells. Body weight exercises are also good.
Holy shit a powertec, got one of these things for $300 CAD a couple years ago. Absolutely my favorite piece of gym equipment I've used in or out of the gym. The squat and pressing movements on it can get insane depth and are about the only things that never cause me any sort of knee or shoulder discomfort no matter how heavy I go. For the record I regularly load 4 plates a side on the squat and absolutely still feel it, you can go heavy as you want on this thing. You're sitting on the lat pulldown backwards btw. It's an extremely good feeling pendulum system, your arc here is backwards which will cause your chest to cave and an awful lat workout. The only thing that really sucks on this is the ab crunch is completely useless, and leg extensions you need a pad behind your back for ROM and you can only really go heavy enough for a warmup if you're strong.
I've gone full home gym. Started with a bench and a handful of dumbbells. Then bought a power rack with a cable attachment. Can get a pretty decent workout across the board going.

We can agree will puts a smile on our faces with these wonderful videos. Thanks will and your team
plate machine flat bench. cable and stack, barbells (40-80), dumbells, pec deck, plate squat machine, hack squat machine, squat rack, adjustable bench
basement gyms and garage gyms are literally the craziest gyms
Bro is so in the moment, makes me appreciate life more. I love it!
That home gym... at first, before you entered that home- I thought it was going to be Silence of the Lambs and Buffalo Bill would come out in his/her robe dancing to Wild Horses.
This home gym is incredible! Seriously I did not expect to see that hidden away in that underground bunker!
The first thing I would buy is a power rack and bench... I was going to say Smith machine, but being able to remove the bar and having an option to do pull ups in a power rack makes it more worth it for a home gym.... If you get a dip attachment, a couple different bars, and enough weights.. you can almost get by with just a power rack
and you should get 7% if this house sells.. you just did some free marketing for those guys
16:47 the Wii sports batting practice music 😂
12:46 , did he just fart lmao
Your videos helped me start working out again. Thanks, Will i love you channel. You have the most entertaining and motivating health/gym videos
12:47 fart detected😂
If I had to choose 2 machines for a home gym I would go for the cable cross over machine with built in bench press and squat rack. Also a lat pull-down machine. You can make serous gains with that alone
Treadmills/stationary bikes/steppers... just not needed! Go out for a jog/walk, ride your bike in the neighborhood, climb the stairs in the house. And with that court and what not.. yeah.. elliptical as the only "cardio" machine.. totally fine. Man, that gym... so soo nice.
When the 16 million dollar home gym doesn’t have a squat rack 😭
16:25 That looks like a hot tub. There's probably a switch somewhere that lowers the floor down into the water below.
Honestly that $16M home gym is overrated 😭
Try Muay Tai for bad knees, shins, and elbows. Wing Chun for Wrists. Tai Chi for Dan Tien.
15:11 I laughed so hard, this guy's humor is the best lmaooo
Power rack with 400lb in plates and good flat and adjustable bench. Adjustable dumbbells then 70lb-100lb pair DBs.
Another amazing video! Do you think you could make a video about building a proper home gym on a budget?
You the Man!!
the channel garage gym reviews has some good videos abt that
the wardrobe to Narnia was awesome bro
The quality of Will’s videos never disappoint; the cinematography, editing, the commentary. 10/10
Thank you! ❤🙏🏼💪🏼😊
For the past 4 years I’ve had a black coffee and watched a new Will Tennyson video every Friday morning, it’s a tradition.
I have that exact same pullup/dip bar from the first gym, and I said basically the same thing when I first tried it out. I got it for free though, so I guess I can't complain. But the only way to get it to be functional is either strapping it down or having somebody else stand on the other side of it to make it shake less lol
Now that looked like a FUN video to make. Thanks 4 sharing! Cheers !😎😎😎
love Will's personality. he's real funny
I love that the big home gym had all white equipment. that would 100% make me feel anabolic despite the lush setting simply as would make me feel nostalgic for when I first started lifting back in the 90's
10/10 on the silk shirt/pants combo. Please do a Will goes shopping video. Thanks for being so great!
First gym felt like it deserved a higher rating since during the spring/summer the pool would be open and excellent for cardio
0:15. Im stealing this 😂
Some cable machines and squat rack and bench press and 10 pound to 150 pound dumbbells and leg press and a pull-up bar and some curl bars , place to deadlift and a treadmill thats most of the basics you need also like several plates and different weights like 8 ,45s and and 6,25s and 6, 10s and 6,5s thats enough to stare out and have a good amount of weights till you need more.
Pullup bar, dip bars, ghr, kettlebelĺs, sandbag
Super Mario Sunshine and Wii Sports music used in one video 🙌
The $160 looks so cozy and I’d love to work out there. I wish they had more equipments though. Anyways love the vibes.
Cozy? It looks too small. The person who put in the equipment needs to move each machine to make it easier to move around.
A nice set of dumbbells, squat rack with bench & deadlift posibilities. That's probably all you need. And a bench
Will- how do you come up with ideas and coordinate all of this for videos each week? Im very impressed! Do you do all the research yourself, planning, etc.?
We're all gonna make it brahs
💪
I dont understand the $160 price tag at all when even Equinox is like half price for a day pass. Complete ripoff to the max.
Private gym vs public gym
3:55 I’d buy a squat rack with 8 plates of each eight, a bar, clips, a mat for it to stand on, a mirror wall, and a bench that can be inclined and declined. Then some weight adjustable dumb bells, a pull-up bar with grip variation, a zebra mat are for stretching, and 30 yards of Astro turf with the yards marked. A sled with straps for sled pull, and lastly a cable machine with full variation. That’s about 50,000 I guess.
it would have been very interesting to see an actual 160$ gym! This one is probably worth more than 5k$ 😅
Great content as always tho!
like a repossessed bowflex? 😂🤣
Stairmaster, cable machine, squat/bench rack, and free weights
could you do ice hockey for a day since the nhl all star game 2024 is in toronto for this year.
Those flat bench chest press machines are like a forgotten treasure. Best squeeze you can get for a chest press in my opinion.
Entertaining and informative keep it up will❤
i feel like cable machines are amazing for home gyms, it’s extremely versatile and you don’t need a lot of space to store plates. Even if you plan on adding a squat rack or bench and need to get plates in the future anyways, you can use the cable machine for *almost* any dumbbell exercise so it still keeps its usefulness
I have my own home gym. In my opinion, if you want to have your own home gym, the things you really need are:
• Dumbbells
• Bench (Adjustable)
• Rack (either Half or Full, your preference; including pullup bar and pulley)
• Barbell
• Curlbar
• Plates
• Weighted Vest
That's really all you need for the rest of your life. Personally, I also got a leg extension because I just love that shit. I went with hex dumbbells because I prefer to just have them smaller and resistant to being dropped, as well as not having to change the weight on them manually.
you dont even need all that, but I would add a suspension trainer of some kind and maybe a cable system.
06:34 "... I don't wanna get pregnant" 🤣🤣🤣
Coming back home after the gym and seeing a Will Upload is like being teased by your girlfriend for round two.
@@TheEditorJoshI'd say you used it very well. Made me happy to hear one of my favorite games get spread, even if it was for a meme.
@@TheEditorJoshsong at 14:15?
@12:38 the sound sync was just PERFECT !!!
I wonder if the hole in the mansion is for an ice bath. Could make sense since it's near the gym
Pretty sure it is a cold plunge.
Seeing those stairs at the 1st home gym reminded me of the time when Will climb the mount everest on their home staircase. 👌
3:58 that’s what she said 🤡😶🌫️
My home gym consists of, A spin bike for the real bad weather days, a pair of running shoes for the outdoor cardio, a yoga mat, some kettle bells of various weights, and the bowflex dumbbells. Body weight exercises are also good.
Anyone got spare 16mil real quick
ya bro for sure just send me $17M first.
Bro your video editing skills are top tier!! That transition into your gym clothes 👌
Can get a pretty decent workout across the board going.
did you farted at 12:48 ?
I think i just saw that cheap home gym in a mobile ad
