Planting Camellias In Pots

  • Camellias are native to South East Asia and we've been growing them in this country for about 300 years.
Camellias prefer some shade rather than full sun, and acidic soil.
We don't have acidic soil so raise ours in large pots filled with a mix of Ericaceous compost and grit.
Ideally they should be watered with rain water collected in butts.
    We planted Japonica "PRINCIPESSA BACIOCCHI"

Hi Both, hope that Val is on the mend and will soon be back in the allotment. Thanks for viewing our video and commenting. Hopefully the Camellias will do well in those pots and they do provide a magnificent display of flowers each Spring. Best Wishes, Paul & Nadeja.

Your wife's plant is so much more beautiful! But your plant will catch up! I would have purchased the less expensive one also.

Congratulations on your new beautiful Camellias 😍addition to your garden. They look gorgeous. I've fallen in love with Camellias recently by watching Janey's plant and one more friend channel. I'm curious to see if you would overwinter them in greenhouse/home during winter or they survive in outdoor.

Thank you so much for viewing our channel and for your lovely comment - you are very kind! We will keep the Camellias in a sheltered and shady spot during the Summer and Autumn. In Winter we will move the pots into the polytunnel or greenhouse. Best Wishes, Paul & Nadeja.

Beautiful and helpful video. I'm guessing (hoping) you were joking when you spoke about you not having and your wife having enough as she's working. Surely, what's yours is hers and vice versa? ☺️

I was given one over a year ago. It has not grown but remains stunted. It will produce new leaves but hadn't flowered yet. We do have the right soil for it.

Hi Rich, thanks for viewing our video and for your kind comment. Camellias are beautiful and I am looking forward to enjoying them for many years. Can you grow them where you are? When I have finished tidying our garden I will do a full tour but some sections are a mess at the moment ! Best Wishes, Paul & Nadj.

@@gardeningmadeeasywiththeol3945 I think that our season is so short that we'd have them indoors more than outdoors. They look pretty fragile. Our last frost is in mid-May and our first frost can come in mid-September. Not a long growing season! Don't worry about parts being a mess. That is the fun of the garden tours. You get to show the mess and tell what you're going to do to improve the situation! Cheers Paul & Nadj!

Yes to the woman who could afford the bigger camelia💪🏾 It really is very pretty🌸
Great job Paul, planting both Camellias👏🏾 I have a camellia somewhere in my garden and it‘s so small that it would probably win in the pageant for who‘s got the tiniest Camellia🤣🤣 but to my defense, it‘s what I could afford😉
Love the view of your garden in the background, thanks for sharing💚

Hi Valerie, thank you so much for viewing our channel and for your kind comments. The varieties that we have planted could eventually reach a height of 9 - 13ft. but I want to keep them smaller and more compact if possible. We will see how we get on ! Best Wishes, Paul & Nadeja.
