  • Camellia are easy to grow, glossy evergreens. They are ideal for containers. Their showy flowers come in whites, pinks and reds and appear early in the season; a time when not much else is flowering.

    Really good advice. ThanQ.
Gone from killing indoor plants, to growing roses in my new garden and am obsessed with Camellias, Roses and Azaleas!
Just put a weeny Camellia in a pot, (seems I picked a good size intuitively!) and one in the ground. Can't wait to see the blooms. xxx

One thing not covered in the video is winter protection
Camellias in containers are particularly susceptible to damage in extreme cold weather, especially the roots.
It will be necessary to bring the containers into a less cold environment if temperatures fall enough to freeze the rootball.
Also windchill will damage the foliage and flowers, so choose a protected location for your plants.

What is the sun requirement when growing in containers for camellia

Hi Jennifer, in summer, dappled shade, in winter full sun or very light shade (as under leafless tree branches for example). Full sun in summer does not suit these woodland plants, but deep shade may reduce flowering. The north side of the house, tall wall or fence is good for patio camellias in pots.
